While he obviously wanted the permanent lock, gambling on finding one of two cards in your 100 card deck that can achieve that in the face of a situation that is upon you *right now* is profoundly stupid
I've done that 😅 sometimes I'll play the Channel land instead of discarding it because I either need the land or don't realize it's that specific land like an idiot
"More importantly, we got to absolutely ruin some arena zoomer's day 😊" If you can look past the smile and jolly demeanor, Seth is an actual sociopath.
Gen. Alpha started in 2010 according to most sources, so the oldest are now 13+, and therefore old enough to play mtg. Since it came out this year, Maha is a Gen. Alpha card, not Gen Z.
He’s teaching them about the old school feeling of being locked out and not being able to do anything, which is something that wizards has strayed away from encouraging in modern magic
Seth auto navigating to "Oops" emote after op awakened into Vein Ripper makes me thing he is Crim levels of toxic off camera 😂 like ZERO hesitation to Oops lmao
Against the Ulamog you could have attacked withe the Bloodghast. If opponent blocks, you can Night of Souls Betrayal the Ulamog away. (Missed several Attacks with Bloodghast this video. Gotta get that value!) Otherwise thank you for the video!
You should consider the seek gates in your mono-color decks. You have so many ways to tutor it out and it even counts as a Swamp for Liliana and the bad Coffers.
@@domotoro3552 i mean at that point you could just say t4 MHM2 and t5 kill their things to get the synergy. why even include the maha at that point? its not like black struggles with killing things that have more than 1 toughness...
@@MetalHev Well it helps keep the combo pieces alive and provides the opponent a disincentive from playing creatures purely for the ETB even if they'll die immediately, I guess.
A fun lock occurred to me the other day, if you have Nexus of the Spirit dragon and can bounce and recast Emracule the Promiced End, you can mindslaver lock opponents in Pioneer
Maha is actually surprisingly fun to play against. Its awesome playing long games against it trying to stop them from getting locks or trying to remove them, but if im playing a control deck like i usually am, its literally unlosable
49:12 Opponent has 17 life Play Massacre Wurm > Opponent sacs Boromir in response > Falco dies > Wurm triggers > 15 life Opponent sacs food > 18 life Equip boots on Wurm > swing with team > 0 life You also had spymaster's vault and bandit's talent, but boots was the only way to win that turn.
The power level of decks you face is largely determined by how many rares or mythic rares are in yours… figured this out when I played a shadowborn apostle deck and suddenly faced a series of obscure, janky commanders.
Seth: Incubation Druid is a little underrated, sure it's an extra five mana to turn it on, but once it starts tapping for three... Grumgully: What are you talking about? Incubation druid is a two drop mana dork that taps for three.
Pretty sure you could've won the last game a turn earlier by playing the Wyrm pre-combat, and then equipping it with the Boots for Haste, then swing for everything.
I’m actually all for him playing Maha, I kinda dig this Heel dichotomy where I can root for the opponent to beat the lock rather than for Seth with the stax deck
glad to see awaken the erstwhile finally accomplish something! it was my first prerelease promo so it has a special place in my heart despite being extremely awful
Ran LegenVD’s version of Maha Brawl. The deck really struggles against Planeswalker commanders… Bolas in particular. Also, +1/+1 counters bypass the lock. So it’s by no means overpowered. PS: Winter Orb is a free win against multi-coloured decks. But maybe that’s just too mean 😂
I was excited about thinking Geth, Thane of Contracts would synergize with Maha until I figured out that it didn't. Maybe I could still make it work though if my opponent plays or clone Maha, and I start up a loop engine with Zulaport/Dictate of Erebos and a reanimation card.
yeah not playing massacre wurm precombat was a huge punt tbh. Yeah they could've sac'd boromir to prevent some damage, but just move the boots to wurm and attack for 18?
Random rules question: if someone had Maha and souls betrayal out. And you cast one of the many creatures that return a creature to your hand on ETB, would you be able to return it to your hand or would it check state base before the "return a creature" resolves
Is it just me or is seth and his audio disconected from the gameplay on the screen? He will be talking about cards the opponent is playing before they apear on screen visualy.
I get what you're saying about Kenrith, but whenever I've played Kenrith in basically any format I'm building around him, mostly the reanimation ability, like for a while in Historic early in the format's existence I had a deck that more or less locked opponents by getting a Woe Strider out, Kenrith on the battlefield, and some ETBs in the graveyard, like any of a number of things to protect the Kenrith and Woe Strider (Charming Prince works, any of the "sacrifice x to give protection/indestructible to target creature" creatures), some card draw, removal like Skyclave Apparition or Ravenous Chupacabra, and maybe a Frilled Mystic (now that it's on Arena I'd do Mystic Snake since it's easier to cast, but that wasn't an option at the time). It was some fun jank.
the fact that you can build around it doesn’t at all change the fact that having 5 generically-strong abilities and the ability to play WELL OVER 5X THE CARD POOL OF A MONO-COLORED DECK encourages soup decks made of just a bunch of generically good cards.
Hey Seth, no idea if you’ll see this but I’ve been watching you since 2015 and I absolutely love your content and I look forward to your much abrew and ATO every week. I love trying the decks you play and brewing my own twists on them, and I think I’ve made the most fun deck that’s gotten me to mythic in historic consistently for 6 months now using all the same skills you’ve taught us through the years. If you are ever interested it would be a dream if you could play my deck for much abrew sometime, but I have no idea how to send it to you.
Sees the avacyn. Discards the deluge. Then complains about not finding a piece to go with Maha. Oh seth.
While he obviously wanted the permanent lock, gambling on finding one of two cards in your 100 card deck that can achieve that in the face of a situation that is upon you *right now* is profoundly stupid
It's just a game y'all
I’m not here for good mtg gameplay. I have ThrabenU, Jim Davis and LSV for that. I’m here for memes and content.
@@kithkindeckbad plays are part of the content and we should get to laugh at them!
Punts are fun in brawl.
That Falco Spara played a Boseiju instead of using it to get rid of the Soul's Betrayal lmao
Man I saw that too. What a fumble even if he top-decked it.

Getting rid of that toxic deluge…then scrambling for a removal was prime 😂
Man I cant get enough of your content and you always churn it out when standard has spoilers
Seth making the bugler rat sound effect each time he mentions it is so funny to me
I love your Bant opponent casually playing Boseju when you have the lock in play... XD
I love that to this day Seth still makes the sound effect of the Burlglar rat :)
Teaching arena Zoomers about a brand new Gen Z card 🤨
XD
I think its about the tech itself

Always gonna thumbs up Brawl videos. Not enough coverage of this format on RUclips.
missed a trick not calling it MAHA BLAST
They already used that one for another deck.

I think StormblessedSteve (The Kenrith player) saw the writing on the wall and decided to take himself out with his own Awaken the Woods lol
Should add a Torpor Orb to shut off creature ETBs so they can't do something like play a chuupacabra to break the lock
Teaching arena gen alphas about the Meathook Massace IV
More brawl please
I second this

Bad coffers only checks for basics
The Meathook Massacre II will be added soon enough......
Meathook Massacre 2: 2 Meat, 2 Massacre
Meathook 2 doesn't synergize with maha though.

Not sure why that last opponent played the boseiju instead of breaking the lock. 42:40
I would put in a "Curse of Death's Hold" as a second "Night of Soul's Betrayal".
i think Xanders wake would also be great in this deck
Squirreliana seth! Its squirelliana....
I will say, the shifting from noon EDT to 10:00pm EDT during spoiler season (aka every other month) is a rough shift.
As somebody that plays phage as a commander, this is another deck that I would like to have! Looks awesome
He literlly did the "keep the draw spells to find a answer instead of keeping the answer" thing agian in that second ggame🤣
Maha seems like a good new choice for a Pestilence themed deck in commander.
Always happy to see more MTGGoldfish brawl content

For the CTA at the end: it's pretty ridiculous that we even have the question (which is better: a 2014 Modern deck or a 2024 Standard deck?)
Alternate Title: Beating people up with one of the stupidest commander names in recent times
Limitations of Arena. Not having Kormus Bell and Urborg. Suddenly you don't care about what's in their hand

Notably, this combo does NOT lock Hydras or living weapons
Maha is nothing even close in power against hell queue commanders. Rusko, Nadu, Ragavan all of them gonna feast on her.
I love me a good hardlock.
Could probably replace Reliquary Tower with Witch's Cottage since it's very tutorable with Liliana and fetches.

No. It would enter dead, etb would trigger on an empty board. No way to pick itself up.
