you run 6 apps at the same time on the note 10.1 and you say that it lags and you praise the ipad for not being laggy when it's only running one app. that makes no sense.
I was at a point where I didn't know which one to buy.. After trying both at best buy I chose the Galaxy note 10.1 2014 I liked this review but I have to point out some big points people should know before making a decision. First the battery on standby does not drop that much... I've had it sit over two days and it dropped 8% not 20% in a few hours lmao Second touch wiz does suck it's sluggish however it's on Android which gives the option of putting on a smooth launcher such as Nova or smart. So lag isn't there any more problem solved. Third the Ipad does have more "premium" apps.. But Android is catching up and most get ported over in a matter of weeks. Both are great devices and have there pros and cons. But I favor the note 10.1 2014 due to full multitasking, college productivity abilities, high resolution, true stylus implementation , no touch controls and customization of the u .i
478 grams is sooooo much lighter than 540 grams. Everybody will notice the incredible extra mass of a whopping 62 grams. Pardon my sarcasm but it's downright ridiculous to consider a weight difference of 62 grams notable except for some frail old retired person who isn't going to use a tablet anyway.
there's the developer options in the note that allows you to increase or decrease animation and frame rate. You probably set those on max to slow the note 10.1 down. The note 10.1 has quantum dot film on the display to give it a higher color gamut and contrast than the Air. Go to Displaymate site and see the factual data
As an owner of the original Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 and the iPad 3, I can confidently say I will never buy another Samsung tablet again. My biggest complaint is Samsung's TouchWiz overlay. It's a lagtastic piece of garbage. Plus, it took forever to get the latest Android update. But after Samsung finally updated the OS, the TouchWiz became even worse. A choppy disaster. I recently upgraded to iPad Air without even considering Note 10.1 2014 edition.
Well i'm an Ipad 1 owner... after the change Apple made with the recharge connector, i'm never buying a new Apple product ever, now i'm stuck with an 200$ Ihome product that wont charge the new Ipads.... and Android is just way better than the horrible Itunes...
Alexis Brosseau You realize that when you buy the new iPad Air, apple includes the lightning adaptor with it, right? Plus, you still have the old adaptor that you can still use with your old iPad. So what are you talking about? ITunes is not my favorite music source on a desktop pc because its relatively slow and clunky and not optimized for PC's, but it works rather flawlessly on my iPad. I own tablets on all platforms: IOS, Android, and Win 8x. The ipad is a great tablet for casual users. And my Win 8x tablets are perfect for productivity and media consumption. Android has simply become irrelevant. But to each his own. Enjoy your Android experience. I sure didn't.
Ugh, yet another Apple vs Samsung comparison that totally misses the point. You don't have real widgets, consistent notifications, real multitasking, digital pen input, customizable launchers and expandable memory on any Apple product. Not a single Apple mobile device. For people who want to do more than play games and watch movies, it's a no brainer. I'm a student and I use all of those features I mentioned on my Note 10.1 2014 except for expandable memory. I do my reading, take notes and do my homework all on the tablet. There's no way that would happen with an iPad.
May be because the Samsung note do multitasking that could have a serous pressure on display and processing so this make it slow but i think is good to watch videos while chatting with it.
***** It's perfectly capable of handling the resolution, it's just that Samsung added tons of useless unoptimised bloatware, which slow the whole thing down. Root + deleting bloatware = experience on par, if not better than on the Note 3.
Felt an ipad air in my own hands last week, have to agree it weighs so less and makes me want to use the tablet all the time as its so easy to carry around. (the screen looks gorgeous of course). Samsung still have a little more catch up to do.
Only Samsung can make a tablet lag with an octo core processor.. It's the details that Samsung are missing. In Asphalt 8 for example, the cars didn't even have tire smoke and the details looked quite flat in comparison to the iPad.
First, I wanted to buy the Samsung after seeing the raw specs & some reviews. After watching this I got confused. Is samsung's lag a big issue ? will it still lag if i didn't do any multitasking ?
You need an adapter that plugs into the charging port and into the projector. At school I have seen it be done with an iPad 2 and iPhone 4 so I can assume that there are other adapters that would work for either devices. You may want to ask a person at Staples or something.
ohh shit :) My daddy went to the shop to buy note 10.1 2014 but came back with ipad air :) i am so happy i dont have samsung but apple and i am very very happy with this ipad i recommend it.
I had a choice between the two devices last night, I ultimatly went with the note 10.1 2014. Because i had a 64gb micro sd I bought for 40 bucks a month ago. I was not going to pay apple 100 for 16gb extra storage at a time. That being said there is a bit of micro lag that can get annoying with the note especially knowing it's an expansive item. I'm probably going to flash an unbloated rom change launcher. That will kill the lag in most cases or lessen it quite a bit
An excellent comparison review. Great job, Taylor. I'm ready to upgrade this year and was on the fence between these tablets. Thanks to this comparison, I'm going for the iPad Air. Thanks again.
I find this a very greate review, dispite the angry comments. iPad Air's A7 chip, optimization and iOS itself is just more efficient and snappier then off Samsun's tablet. Also, I have realy tried and shoot a wide range of photos with both of the tablets, iPad was clearly a winner. But, it is just strange that Apple does nearly nothing to improve their iPad UI. Samsung knows how to take advantage of that bigger canvas. Just the opposite goes for apps though. I hope Apple will one day implement more customization & multitasking features to its devices. I think it is not far away. They would of course make it "Apple style" though, just cleaner, logical and efficient. Take the idea, "think diffrent", and have it better then before!
Crown Clown You are right. It is because of TouchWiz. But TW represents Samsung when it comes to phones. That's why the iPad is faster hands down. But IMO this comparisson is not about the Note 10.1 2014 and the iPad Air, it's about Android vs IOS. So it's all about preferences....
I have both and This review is spot on. I honestly prefer the Note because I can run multiple apps at once (browsing the Web while watching RUclips is awesome) and the screen is amazing, but there's no denying the speed and app availability of the iPad air. Great comparison, Taylor. You hit all of the bullet points.
Watching this in my Galaxy note 10.1 2014! Had the ipad air but returned it a few days later mostly because of the yellow tint issues with the display. Although a bit more expensive. I much prefer the note 10.1
The Note 10.1 has great specs, multitasking but glitchy software. The iPad Air's specs and multitasking don't match up, but has a great selection of apps and runs seamlessly. What's new? Personally, I'd wait for the new Note Pros and iPad Pros for a better comparison on the next generation of tablets; that being Samsung's new Magazine UX interface and Apple's upcoming iOS 8.
I am getting the Note because I am an admitted Android fanboy (minus the territorial nonsense). No doubt the ipads are wonderful. Im typing on one now. But the very foundation of Android makes it more appealing to me. Still, for $550, i really should be getting a smoother interface and more fluid transitions. It's enraging that these tablets aren't where they should be. I want Android ALOT, but its frustrating i have to settle with second-rate fit and finish on both the hardware, firmware, and software fronts.
Easy conclusion, Ipad Air is great for simple people without any computer savvy or ambition. It's good for them to watch their movies and check their facebook, and play cheaper games compared to video game consoles or a PC. The Note 10.1 is for people that will use it in a business or student environment, and for people with some intelligence involving computers.
The iPad Air is better. The build quality, the display accuracy, the thinness and weight, the A7 chip and the huge battery that lasts longer than Apple's claim are all superior. Now these kind of things make it better in theory, but when it comes to what you can do in terms of productivity, creativity and entertainment, the App Store just toasts Google Play in terms of quality apps and device specific display and performance optimisations. And without Google's backend making money on your every move. Add to that it doesn't die with the OS version it's shipped with, in fact it gets instant updates for years to come. Now don't tell me a stylus and some features with some potential of being useful are going to compensate.
Nah, Note is the winner. Better specs, better display, S-Pen, etc. Also, the battery has a difference of 600mAh, which is a very small difference and the thickness is a difference of less than half a millimeter. I don't know where your're getting the App Store is better than Google Play BS. Just because the App Store has more apps doesn't mean it's better. Every famous app is also on Google Play. Enjoy your sad excuse of a tablet, I'll use my far more productive one. (I do have an iPad 2, in case you're wondering.)
Penguin236 You're a spec hunter who clearly doesn't know anything about computer architecture. Higher pixel density doesn't translate into a better display as there are many other factors. Same goes for speed. SoC clock speed and # of cores aren't the sole factors to determine end user performance (ironically the iPad is faster despite the "lower specs"). Comparing the battery life of two completely different OS's and hardware by comparing the mAh values is as moronic as it gets. And notice how I didn't mention anything about the quantity of apps, as it's irrelevant. GP apps are crappier on average (too bad there's no quality reviewing), less device specific optimization for sure, and yes it lacks a long list of kickass iPad apps (not just the iLife and iWork apps). Enjoy your so called productivity on a device that's purposefully designed for other goals. Heck even the MS Surface which is marketed as a productivity tool falls unacceptably short on productivity compared to devices that are meant to do work (laptops), instead of pretending to be capable.
h4x0y Let's start with the display. I have seen both the retina display, and the note display, and I have to say that the note is slightly better, It's not a huge difference, but still. Next, I never said that the Note has better performance, I was just pointing out that it has better specs. Next, the apps. The Android app market has grown a lot in the past years, and it will continue to do so. Every app that I need is on Android, so I personally do not lack anything. Lastly, I can do much more on the Note(mainly write and draw properly) than I can on the iPad. There is very little that can't be done on the Note that can on the iPad, however, there is quite a bit of stuff that can be done on the Note that can't on the iPad.
Hugo Wong 'Multitasking,' that is a key word. The iPad would probably lag very badly when multitasking(if it could). Also, the stutter is very little, and considering I'm used to a slow, EXTREMELY laggy iPad 2, the stutter is hardly noticeable. Also, since the lag is from Touch Wiz, it doesn't carry over into apps.
Why don't you guys do a comparison between the first galaxy note 10.1 and the note 10.1 2014! I have the old one and I don't know if I should upgrade or not.
don't think anyone on here has tried both, try before you judge,,i have and i prefer the note slightly over the air, i love the true multitasking and how you can make the tablet yours by customizing it.Apple you cant do that so people stop loving apple cuz its apple. stop been an isheep and try other tablets and OS's before you say apple is the best cuz they are not
They are biased towards apple because of the better tablet ecosystem. Not the partly bitten fruit logo, but the appstore. A hybird user of a S4 and a iPad doesn't see this as biased only fandroids do and likewise only ifan see it as biased when an Android phone was picked as a clear overall winner
Not true man, we can talk all day about this. But if you open your eyes u see that samsung has produced AGAIN a cheap looking device with PRO specs but unf*cking believable sad, choppy and cheaplooking software. The iPad is clearly the winner between these tablets, its a premium tablet that feels, looks and performs fantastic. However the only thing that would make the important difference is the customization of both tablets, i love android because of that. But then again, i would never ever buy a samsung if there wouldn't be a good customrom for it. If i would buy a Samsung device, the first thing i would do is search a good customrom and remove touchwiz as quick as i can. Its not android worthy (;
Just because something is popular doesn't make it bad. I'll agree that Apple products are overpriced, but they get away with it and that's what businesses do. I'm sick of people insulting people over buying Apple stuff. how about everyone just gets what they want and gets off each others' nuts.
David Molnar I think the note 2014 is the better tablet, it has the s pen which allows you to do nice hand writing and also has multi window which is true multitasking. Android is probably the better tablet OS as well, since it has much more versatility than iOS, which just feels like you're using a bigger iphone.
That was the worst comparison I have ever seen.THE WORST,DEFINITELY.Very bad taylor, you'are doing some biased comparisons and reviews. You should take a look at the normal performance of the Note 10.1 2014 Edition,of course it lags while opening 4-5 apps at the same tame.iPad would lag more if it could open 4-5 apps at the same time.I have been using a Note 10.1 2014 Edition for a week now,and Im not having problems with the performance.Multi Window feature works great(2 apps at the same time). With the iPad,you get only more optimized apps for tablet. And,the camera on the Note is just BETTER than the iPad Air.My friends has an Air,we've done some photos, and yes:the Note took some awesome shots, better than the iPad.All this comparison was BULLSHIT.I didnt expect this from you,Tayler.
people should check out the drop tests for the ipad air. it shatters from a 3 foot drop beyond use. it looks more sturdy but the top and bottom of the device are hollow and pretty much explode from the smallest drop
The best for productivity is none of the two. For me it's either an Asus Transformer Pad TF701. It has a very fast Tegra 4 processor, 2 GB of ram, a crisp IPS display. It has the customizations that Android gives (so better than Apple), it does not have bloatware(so better than Samsung). So yeah, less features, but more useful(such as SuperNote). Yes, it does not come with a stylus, like the Note, but it compensates that with it's keyboard dock, which makes it alot more productive. But if you already have a Samsung or Apple TV, phone etc. then just go and complete your company's echosystem. Again, that was just MY opinion, but feel free to express yours.
Is the European version different. I have the Note 2014. It was laggy out of the box. However it updated itself and hasn't lagged at all since the first day.
Would request to do a comparison between ipad air and xperia tablet z..I loved the one that Michael fisher did before but a newer comparison between these two will really help..thnx..
Tried both and the iPad air is booorrring! I don't see the appeal of apple devices anymore. If you like bland, basic devices, apple is for you. Now, if you like endless customization options, awesome multitasking, bleeding edge tech, android all the way. Also, install 4.4 KitKat on the new 10.1 and revisit and do another review
I'm notoriously anti-Apple due to the high cost of their products and since I was forced to use a Macbook Pro at work that had continued hardware problems, but honestly I think we're comparing two tablets that are designed for different audiences. I think its unfair to negatively comment on the Note's "lag" in multitasking when the iPad doesn't multitask at all, at least nowhere near the same way the Note does. But even after all that, I can't imagine anyone using multitasking on a tablet made by any manufacturer ALL THE TIME for real world use. Maybe if tablets were more integrated into our daily lives in work and not just play? As it stands, tablets are devices that fall somewhere on the spectrum between a smartphone and a desktop PC, and they should be treated as such. I did purchase this Galaxy Note 2014 with a discount through newegg so I didn't have to put up the full retail price so that was an added bonus, but I'm already in the Android world so it makes sense that I would gravitate towards another Android device, much like my wife with her Apple iPhone gravitates towards the iPad and Macbooks. Like I said, they serve different audiences and they both have a place at the table. As to which is better, just depends on what you need it for.
Heyyy I have been watching pocket now for a long time and enjoy the reviews you guys put together .. I just gotta say I fell like this video was put together with a little biased and an upper hand to apple ..
@kastas lekkas How many apps do you need on one screen? 50? 100? You can flow from app to app while having multiple apps open at the same time just not on the same screen and you can copy and paste and it flows seamlessly to be productive as you need it to. I do it all the time. You can even see in the video the Galaxy stutters and lag. I've owned several android devices and I've had Apple devices a little over 2 years now and as I look back, Android still with the same ol problems. They pack you with a ton of features that you can't even use productively over a long period of time. I have a iPad 2 and 3 and both still run smooth and fluid.
Wouldn't it have been appropriate to include the Surface 2 as well ? It's a serious contender with an emphasis on classical office/education productivity.
Such fanboys on both sides here. Realistically the note is for people who want productivity and multitasking. The ipad is much more user friendly, and is for the average person that is gonna surf the internet and get on facebook. The ipad is smoother because its all designed for the apple OS. The note has to work with android, and Samsung so its more glitchy.
I own the note and while I wanted it to decimate the ipad, I can see that the ipad is a great touchscreen device. I'm just hoping that further software updates will help it move forward. I even learned some things about the note that I didn't know. Great review/compare!
You run six applications at the same time and don't expect it to lag? Mean while you are only running one app with the iPad?? Really??? I advice pple to run two apps on their note devices and their will be no lag trust me I have the note 10.1 2014 edition and it's simply works.
Very helpful.... have read lots of reviews on both devices and have an Ipad on order....although i am a samsung mobile user... ipad has the edge when it comes to user friendly features and anyone can pick it up.
You might think it's a gimmick because you can't think of any uses for it, but as a cab driver this has made my job so much easier. Being able to run google maps, the phone dialer, text messaging and Iheart radio without having to switch back and forth is so convenient. Sounds like your an apple fanboy who fears he has spent too much money on an inferior product and has been ripped off...
The Note takes this for me, just because of the S Pen and multitasking oriented features (also that display is gorgeous). Holding it in the hand it does feel like it could snap in half if you put too much pressure on it though, it feels much more less solid than the iPad.
I agree with the point on iPad being walked away as a winner. And I also know that this video is mainly about the comparison of the tablets as mere facts, I'm not gonna brag about this very much. All I want to say is, however other tablet vendors monstrously boost their tablet specifications and performance, there is always one thing they can't beat Apple. It's a vast ecosystem of services seemlessly integrated behind those devices. I believe which is the main reason people still prefer those Apple devices over other brands, even though Apple devices still have those notable flaws, like the true multitasking.
Hmm...interesting idea to compare true multitasking performance on the Note with Save State performance on the iPad....Oh, wait, it isn't. Also, if you think the Note is laggy, just install Nova launcher. Its speed puts the iPad's to shame. Oh, you don't like bloatware? Root your Note and delete it...simple as that. Hardware goes to the iPad? That's incredibly biased, as the Note has better screen, CPU, GPU, camera, RAM. And you didn't even cover almost anything about the S pen...you know, the main feature of the Note...the reason it's called that. It's basically the best artist's tablet right after the Surface Pro 2. Oh, and I have both and have developed for both. The Note can easily punch out greater performance. So the only unbiased critique left for the Note is that TouchWiz is crap and that iOS has better games and slightly better build quality. But iOS 7 can be very unoptimised for the iPad Air's x64 processor, too. Mainly, many of its apps, which are not optimised for the thing. And what does the Note have better than the iPad? Well: - Better screen - Better specs - More fluidity via Nova launcher - S pen - Full File browsing and customisability - True multi-tasking - MicroSD slot (no need to spend 50$ for double the space) - Emulators - Easier development (no need to use a Mac or Objective-C) So, all in all, both are good, but this reviewer is clearly biased.
I love both the tablets but this time i might buy the iPad since its lighter better and performs fairly better in comparison to the Note, even Note has monster specifications.
I thought this review was very useful however I found it to be quite bias towards the iPad air and against the galaxy. I think the iPad air is just a big phone but I think the galaxy is an upgraded laptop. So much more helpful for students.
One thing makes me buy note over ipad : s pen...its game changer,no need to cut trees anymore for writing and drawing.its like unlimited paper and all the pen in the world.
+TEH KOTAK It is of course great to have, but it doesn't have palm rejection and not good for handwriting. I have used it. It is very gimmicky. But hopefully, the new generation tablets have better s pens just like Apple pencil or surface pen.
Changiz K Baluch my note 10.1 2014 does have palm rejection, and i have gotten used to writting on a glass instead of paper, might take lil time to get the hang of it.i tried the apple pencil and surface.it feels the same, although the pencil feels a bit better because of larger size. for drawing wacom still the best
If you're a student. Get the samsung note 10.1. I've used various iPads and when it comes to the writing experience the Samsung SMOKES the iPad. Extremely responsive and completely replaces paper for me. I do all of my homework straight from the tablet and it's never been easier. I came from an iPad and the hardest adjustment for me was the battery life. Google and samsung default the device to constantly send various information to the cloud. This kills battery life when in use or standby. Just do some reading and learn what to turn off/on. I can easily get one to two days of hard use out of one charge.
Apple's tablet is not better. The note only lags when you had 3 or more windows open at once something you cant do on an iPad. So you're telling me Samsung shouldn't have the option to run so many programs at once? I mean even on desktops if you open too many windows its going to stutter that's a very mute point.
I have 7 tabs open no lag. Im on air. My friend has a samsung tablet. I had 7640 entities on minecraft without lag. He had 1209 and his tablet was gonna explode. Oh and his graphics are shit.
I made this to subscribe to bajan canadian are you crazy having windows opened and tabs are not even comparable plz stop. As for the mine craft example I do not know anything about minecraft so that's not something I could speak on.
Jom DeeAsian or people just really dont give a shit about specs and want to use the tablet flawlessly. it is nice that u can have 6 tabs opened at once, but as long as it lags, it does worth nothing. by the way i dont really get this rivalry thing, everyone should buy what fits perfectly for him and dont give a f. what others buy.. at least we have choice.
Baahahahaha all android suffer from LAG. Lag is so 1990s... Windows Phone = No lag. Apple = No lag.. Android = lag. Android fails so hard because of this fundamental problem.
I appreciated the video and comparison Taylor. I have been wanting to upgrade my Tab 2 10.1 and was leaning towards the Note, but now I don't know. I really wish apple would include front facing speakers, Flash media and Expandable memory. I would give my left nut for an iPad with the above features.
People get an iPad for its name(which makes it expensive) and its simplicity, there's cheaper better actual tablets yet get less recognition because its not apple. Samsung has everything better than apple
It's disappointing that you guys failed to mention what the specifications actually mean. The Apple A7, with less cores, is substantially more powerful than the Exynos Octa. Core counts and clock speeds mean little when each core performs lower instructions per clock.
Do you think, having Kitkat 4.4 and change the runtime mode into ART rather than Dalvik will improve some performance for This heavyloaded Touchwiz, TM?
Unlikely. ART will improve app start up times (at the expense of taking up some extra storage space) but won't do much beyond that. The animation lag is due to both Android and Touchwiz being far less optimized.
I got a note 10.1 and a note 3 and my note 3 came with a crack in the camera lens so I returned it for a new one. My note 10.1 screen was glitches and half the screen was high contrast when the other was low so I returned it for another but that one wouldn't charge and the sad card slot would work so I just kinda lost hope in it and took it back to the store and got an iPad air I've not had any problems and it seems better to me. I still love samsung but think there better at phones personally.
you run 6 apps at the same time on the note 10.1 and you say that it lags and you praise the ipad for not being laggy when it's only running one app. that makes no sense.
I was at a point where I didn't know which one to buy.. After trying both at best buy I chose the Galaxy note 10.1 2014
I liked this review but I have to point out some big points people should know before making a decision. First the battery on standby does not drop that much... I've had it sit over two days and it dropped 8% not 20% in a few hours lmao
Second touch wiz does suck it's sluggish however it's on Android which gives the option of putting on a smooth launcher such as Nova or smart.

A little bit more than 2 ounces.. ooooooooooooooooooooohhhhh
there's the developer options in the note that allows you to increase or decrease animation and frame rate. You probably set those on max to slow the note 10.1 down. The note 10.1 has quantum dot film on the display to give it a higher color gamut and contrast than the Air. Go to Displaymate site and see the factual data
correction: the base wi fi model is one pound/469 grams. the base 3g model is 1.05 pounds, 178 grams.

Brandon P Unfortunately, I have to use my Android tablet to test apps. Otherwise I would have no need to own or use an Android device.
totally right, i hate how samsung is made of super cheap plastic
Ugh, yet another Apple vs Samsung comparison that totally misses the point. I do my reading, homework, writing, drawing, and video editing all from my tablet as well.
And it all gets done, well, on my Air 2.
Thank you so much, that's the comparison I've waited for...
I will not call this "biased" anymore I will rather say "hypocrisy"...

I would like to see the Ipad handling 3 windows simultaniously. That comparison stank! Elsewise, good review.
First, I wanted to buy the Samsung after seeing the raw specs & some reviews. After watching this I got confused. Is samsung's lag a big issue ? will it still lag if i didn't do any multitasking ?
How about testing or comparing the LTE 10.1 for a chance.
*HOW* do you connect either of these with a secondary screen at home or projector at work for presentations?
*SaleOff Up to 37% For Tablets & Free Shipping* amzn.to/1mMxdHY
You need an adapter that plugs into the charging port and into the projector. At school I have seen it be done with an iPad 2 and iPhone 4 so I can assume that there are other adapters that would work for either devices. You may want to ask a person at Staples or something.
Taylor, your reviews are awesome! And it's a plus that you're a fellow lefty.
Great job Taylor, nice unbiased review.
Great Summary... Thanks!
You say the Air don't lag but it lagged a number of times in this video as well.
Why you don´t mention the productivity advantages of the iPad and also fot the multimedia creation
ohh shit :)
My daddy went to the shop to buy note 10.1 2014
but came back with ipad air :) i am so happy i dont have samsung but apple
and i am very very happy with this ipad i recommend it.
oke, i dont give a fuck
sir i dont give a fuck yo'?
ok no problem
IPad Air looks better, Note 10.1 works better:)
Works better? The note was choppy as fuck in this video.
Great review, thanks!
Take the idea, "think diffrent", and have it better then before!
i think that happen because of touchwiz on samsung, i dont know why they dont try to fix it
Crown Clown You are right. It is because of TouchWiz. But TW represents Samsung when it comes to phones. That's why the iPad is faster hands down. But IMO this comparisson is not about the Note 10.1 2014 and the iPad Air, it's about Android vs IOS. So it's all about preferences....
Great video!
As engineering student it still breaks my heart that Microsoft Office, namely excel, is not available on the iPad.
great job C:
great review !
great comparison! thanks.
You can install flash on the note 10.1 2014 edition.
Penguin236 the note's performance is bad. it will lag when u are mutiitasking!
Whats the name of the games you play?
Great review. Very fair and unbiased. I'm gettin the iPad Air this week. It will be my first ever tablet I'm excited :)
Why don't you guys do a comparison between the first galaxy note 10.1 and the note 10.1 2014! I have the old one and I don't know if I should upgrade or not.
great review, thanks
I'm planning to buy the latest tablet but I'm still confused, because both ipad air and samsung note 10.1 is better. but what do you prefer?
don't think anyone on here has tried both, try before you judge,,i have and i prefer the note slightly over the air, i love the true multitasking and how you can make the tablet yours by customizing it.Apple you cant do that so people stop loving apple cuz its apple. stop been an isheep and try other tablets and OS's before you say apple is the best cuz they are not
These reviewers are always biased towards Apple, such a shame.
Not true man, we can talk all day about this. But if you open your eyes u see that samsung has produced AGAIN a cheap looking device with PRO specs but unf*cking believable sad, choppy and cheaplooking software. The iPad is clearly the winner between these tablets, its a premium tablet that feels, looks and performs fantastic. However the only thing that would make the important difference is the customization of both tablets, i love android because of that. But then again, i would never ever buy a samsung if there wouldn't be a good customrom for it. If i would buy a Samsung device, the first thing i would do is search a good customrom and remove touchwiz as quick as i can. Its not android worthy (;
Ins4neinthemembran3 :) Android is only good as a phone OS
Just because something is popular doesn't make it bad. I'll agree that Apple products are overpriced, but they get away with it and that's what businesses do. I'm sick of people insulting people over buying Apple stuff. how about everyone just gets what they want and gets off each others' nuts.
David Molnar I think the note 2014 is the better tablet, it has the s pen which allows you to do nice hand writing and also has multi window which is true multitasking. Android is probably the better tablet OS as well, since it has much more versatility than iOS, which just feels like you're using a bigger iphone.
which one is better regarding the e-reading?
Would request to do a comparison between ipad air and xperia tablet z..I loved the one that Michael fisher did before but a newer comparison between these two will really help..thnx..
plzzz giv me the link to download the wallpaper you used in galaxy note 10.1......i just loved it.....sooo please give the link
What is the wallpaper on the iPad Air?
Tried both and the iPad air is booorrring! I don't see the appeal of apple devices anymore. If you like bland, basic devices, apple is for you. Now, if you like endless customization options, awesome multitasking, bleeding edge tech, android all the way. Also, install 4.4 KitKat on the new 10.1 and revisit and do another review
i like the the boring stuff lol
Hang on.. be back in 6 months when kitkat is released for the 10.1.
Bimmer Guy hahah 6 months
Bimmer Guy HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
4.4 isnt out yet for anything other than the Nexus line I don't believe.
Note costs around 380$ after discount in india but Apple ipad costs around 860$ lol my choice was pretty clear :D
When is the next pocket now daily? it has been 2 days..
Do all of the iPads weight the same for example does the 16gig wifi only weigh the same as the 128 gig wifi and lte model
Hey what's that calender widget he is using?
great review! too bad touchwiz is still laggish, even with that processor :|
btw, can someone share the wallpapers for both tablets in this video?
They have patched and fixed the lagginess. You can verify on google+ and XDA about this.
Wicky Wicklet I still see a bunch of lag.
The guy in the video may not have a patched version. Or if personal device not sure then. Everyone else seems to agree the laginess is gone.
the wall paper on the ipad was made by "simon c page" you should check out his stuff.
wow. cool stuff. thanks!
@kastas lekkas
How many apps do you need on one screen? 50?
I got myself an iPad Air and it's much much more rounded than an Android tablet indeed.
Not to mention the amazing size and weight.
Wouldn't it have been appropriate to include the Surface 2 as well ? It's a serious contender with an emphasis on classical office/education productivity.
what's the name of the wallpaper on the 10.1
Such fanboys on both sides here.
Sir Martin, could you do the IPad air vs Sony xperia z tablet plz and thanks
You run six applications at the same time and don't expect it to lag? Mean while you are only running one app with the iPad?? Really??? I advice pple to run two apps on their note devices and their will be no lag trust me I have the note 10.1 2014 edition and it's simply works.
Great review of two really nice tablets!
please whose is better galaxy note 10.1 2014 or apple i pad air?
Wallpaper please
Isn't it ironic that the A7 chip in the iPad is made by samsung?
Not really at all considering it's patented and Apple have a lot to do with the software being able to run very well on lower end specs.
Well:
- Better screen
- Better specs
- More fluidity via Nova launcher
- S pen
- Full File browsing and customisability
- True multi-tasking
- MicroSD slot (no need to spend 50$ for double the space)
- Emulators
- Easier development (no need to use a Mac or Objective-C)
So, all in all, both are good, but this reviewer is clearly biased.
I love both the tablets but this time i might buy the iPad since its lighter better and performs fairly better in comparison to the Note, even Note has monster specifications.
Can you put the note 10.1 on your tv ?
Do a comparetion of all the ipads, and see how it has evolved
I like when you guys play the music in the background of your review...just though you should know...
Tablets don't rotate screens like iPads? Or do they ?
I thought this review was very useful however I found it to be quite bias towards the iPad air and against the galaxy. I think the iPad air is just a big phone but I think the galaxy is an upgraded laptop. So much more helpful for students.
Why on earth would you buy a galaxy note if you want to use it as a laptop?
Can someone send me a link to the wallpaper in use on the Samsung tablet in this video... it's awesome!
People just can't accept the fact that the note 10 is clearly better than the air, they're too slow to understand life haha
Android fails so hard because of this fundamental problem.
very nice done!
I like the ipad air more than the galaxy note 10.1 2014 edition too
I can accept some lags of the Gnote10.1 because it's so gorgeous
Do you think, having Kitkat 4.4 and change the runtime mode into ART rather than Dalvik will improve some performance for This heavyloaded Touchwiz, TM?
Unlikely. ART will improve app start up times (at the expense of taking up some extra storage space) but won't do much beyond that. The animation lag is due to both Android and Touchwiz being far less optimized.
iJfry Thanks a lot :D
Wouldn't you say the surface 2 is better laptop replacement. It comes with office and the type cover.
What game whete they playing?
Great video but either way I love both device !!!
