    Joe's problem is he defines himself as a macho dude and he considers his reckless driving a big part of that. He also drives for work and that can make you arrogant as you tend to think your experience makes you less vulnerable and more "right" than the others on the road.
    That's an easy trap to fall into.
    It's also pretty easy to get out of. I used to be a speed demon until I heard the genuine fear in the voice of someone who cared for me.
    Still love speed but a busy public road is not the time and place for it.

      I can respect a need for speed as long as you satisfy that need in a safe place like on a track. Don’t understand why people who find driving safe boring don’t just do that instead of making the roads dangerous for others

      @dorientjewoller113 6 лет назад +48

      Was thinking the same. But if you hear that there is no need in reversing with a car on tests, it's normal you have crap drivers. In Belgium, the test is 3-fold: Theoretical (knowing the traffic rules), manoeuvers in a confined space of the exam center (If you fail there, forget the rest of the exam) and a test with the instructor and examinator on the road (2 minor errors allowed, major one means no license).

    • @lexiouse5357
      @lexiouse5357 6 лет назад +6

      Dorientje Woller in my country you have to get 90% on paper test like all the rules and shit and then you have to drive with instructor for 35 days and then you have to pass the first aid test which the questions are retarded and then you can do the driving test and if you fail one thing you fail everything

    • @procerator
      @procerator 6 лет назад +6

      In my country you need to graduate driving school when you learn the theory and have about 14 lessons with the instructor, including on-road driving. Then you will need to path theory test with 2 mistakes out of 20 questions allowed and if you pass - driving test, where driving backwards and parallel parking are usual tasks.

    • @snoopdogie187
      @snoopdogie187 6 лет назад +4

      In the US, the only reversing I had to was parallel parking and a k turn. The writing test only need a 70% I think, and depending on the age, you didn't need to have any instructor time.
      No high ways or anything on the test. Just go in a loop, turn around, stop at stop signs, park. Nothing else to it.

    i always say, i have three mirrors and a camera.... because the camera cannot replace the three mirrors, all it does is *add* another viewing angle.... you can be reversing with the camera and hit a car on the left or right side, because the camera still has blind spots....
    use your mirrors, every time, in conjunction with the camera, not replaced by it.

      snoopdogie187 not on smaller obstacles behind the vehicles. Since most of the cars people buy today are actually crossovers, SUVs or pickup trucks, the rear view mirror is less useful than ever before. The side view mirrors are still just as useful though.

    • @snoopdogie187
      @snoopdogie187 6 лет назад +2

      I was referencing the side mirrors. The rear view mirror I mainly use when coming to a stop on a road just to quickly make sure the car behind me is going to stop also.

Smaller windows means you are not able to see more of your surroundings. The thing is, going 120 is already 20 over the limit here 🤷‍♂️. I can understand having a 100 speed limit in the past, but ffs, cars have gotten a lil better over the last 70-80 years or whenever that limit was introduced. When way out in the country, the limit on highways and interstates should be 150

    • @scottthewaterwarrior
      @scottthewaterwarrior Год назад

      Around here the highways are long, streight and wide yet have 55 MPH speed limits. I tried going 55 early on in my driving, but it was terrifying going that speed when the rest of traffic is going 70+. On surface streets the limit usually feels about right though.
      US and Canada really need to follow the Dutch example for controlling speed. Instead of just posting signs, which are pretty arbitrary, actually design the road for the speed you want people to go! If the road is narrow and has some chicanes in it, it will do far more to slow people down then a sign will.

    The crazy thing about driving ridiculously fast is that it really doesn't get you where you're going that much earlier. It's only on long trips that it starts to make a difference. Suppose you have a 20km trip across town. At 100 it's going to take 12 minutes, at 120 it takes 10 minutes, and at 150 it takes 8 minutes. 20 km, driving like a maniac, and you only save 4 minutes over actually driving the speed limit.

    Well, it turns out Joe was this year's Cody. Which reminds me, I really like it when CWD brings in other family members to confront the worst drivers. It really is something to see them shocked at the presence of their loved ones. Also, as good as Julie was this episode, I'm still not convinced of her, considering she had the WORST rails challenge I've ever seen.
    Now I'm starting to form an opinion on Travis. Right now, I think he might honestly be a serious contender for the title this year. He just has an excuse for EVERYTHING, which drives me BANANAS.
    At this point, I'm really amazed that my generation has it easy in terms of getting licenses. I got my license 3 years ago, but maybe the road testing in the US (or maybe just Reno) is a lot stricter. For one, you automatically fail if you can't parallel park between two cones. And in my test, my only infractions were not using the entire merge lane before entering 40 mph traffic, and not using a left turn indicator when finishing a right turn featuring an island (I'm not sure how to describe these), and I still passed with a 96. Also, the only real extraneous technology that I rely on is my car's built in GPS system, which I primarily use when driving in unfamiliar areas. I've never driven a vehicle with a backup camera before.
    Looking forward to the next episode, it looks like it was Ashley who had that disastrous Eye of the Needle run. The only positive thing I can say is that is wasn't as bad as it could've been (i.e. Flora from 8 or Tyler from 12).

    • @gamer29591
      @gamer29591 6 лет назад

      I do hope that Joe does keep his promise. He is the person who has the skill but chooses to drive poorly (although in this case, it's because of speeding). Still, I am glad they brought his daughter over to push him into making that promise.
      Julie seems to be understanding the lessons, but I think she should stay at least until she fully gets over her impatience, and maybe apologize to her husband on camera for making him pay all of her damages over the years.
      In terms of who I think is the worse; Ashley because she shows stubbernous and lack of skills, or Travis due to him making constant excuses for his driving. The other drivers? Adam, Breanna, and Melanie just need confident boosts, while Shayne is on the weird side for me.

    • @tylermarchand2996
      @tylermarchand2996 6 лет назад

      Skills-wise, I think the final three (I know it's VERY early) will be Ashley, Shayne and Travis. I want to think that Shayne will be this season's Aaron, because I can tell that he knows he's dangerous, and he wants to get better.
      Thus far, I don't think that the drivers of this season hold a candle to some of the truly horrible drivers of previous seasons (think Dale, Lance, Sly, Kevin, Flora, Chanie, Polly, Sholom and Krystal). There is still a lot of season left for the potentially egregious drivers of the bunch (Ashley and Travis) to prove me wrong, but I actually think this season will be relatively tame.

      Adam is this season's Sholom as a character, but he's nothing like as bad as Sholom was in terms of raw skills. Breanna knows all the theory, she just doesn't have the experience to apply it yet.
      I'm waiting for Andrew to make Jillian take him out for a ride, or demonstrate one of the challenges for Ashley to prove that she can do it because iirc back in season 11, she was actually a pretty competent driver but for the emotional barrier to overcome, whereas Ashley is terrible as well as having the emotional problems. Andrew's already doing with Ashley some of the things he did with Jillian before, such as taking her out of the car.
      Shayne I think isn't so bad in the long run because as you say, he is aware that he's dangerous, whereas many of the true worst before really didn't comprehend that - I'm thinking the likes of Dale, Mike Butt and Kevin - he's a terrible driver but he strikes me more like Michael or Brad - people who really were trying to improve but were struggling to apply what they were being taught. Sly was sort of halfway between; he seemed aware that he was really bad, but he didn't seem to recognize how he was meant to correct that.

      Another good analysis. Season 13 for me is looking like a great relief from last season as there is no arguing, and most of the nominees are aware of their problems. I'm going to be honest, Season 12 almost made me stray away from the series just from Krystal alone. I seriously wonder if the show has a rule against expelling people if they feel they are not willing to learn.

      Mitch_Music ugh, Krystal pissed me off so much. Every time she claims that “everyone” texts and drives only made me angrier and angrier. It’s not true for everyone. There are some that does but there are many more that has the sense to leave the phone out of their hands while driving

      I drive a challenger which has an even worse blindspot and I still can see out of it. If it were as bad as Travis complains, no one would drive it

    im glad i learned how to drive from my dad so there was no backup camera i had to look back and use my eyes it amazes me how people think a backup camera is the answer to all the problems they should have to learn without the backup camera. like honestly USE YOUR EYES AND MIRRORS.

      A back up camera is very useful but just calculators it makes things so easy people forget the basic concept of what they are doing. People become so used to taking short cuts they forget completely how to do it the old way witch is sometimes the better way.

    I think they never set the mirrors because in most vehicles, setting your mirrors doesn't let you see your back wheels.
