Actually it sounds fakkeeen good , but Frusciante doesn't overplay like that 😄 he adds somehow what seems to be the right amount of guitar hooks & in the right places, he never fights/conflicts the vocals in such manner , but this version does reflect an awesome study in Frusciante's musical vocabulary & stylings...
The intro and 1st verse sounds like josh during his 2nd album. The chorus vibe sounds like tell me baby chorus. The 2nd verse sounds like a mixed john and josh playing. And the solo, you totally killed it with the frusciante style
I think frusciante knows how to pull back more and add just enough to a song instead of taking over but this was interesting Tip during (verses/chorus) let the singer shine so you don’t have conflicting melodies
your covers just give me shivers. they remind me how a good guitar part should sound and the difference that it makes! and how great John is. thank you
Not a knock on Klinghoffer as a guitarist because he has proven throughout his career to be a very capable and talented guitarist and all around musician, but I always felt that on the getaway he just sounded like he was trying too hard to justify his position in the band. Like I agree he was definitely more confident but on songs like "Dreams of a Samurai," the guitar just sounds very forced and extra, especially during the verses. On "I'm with you" he sounded like he was just playing it safe and doing whatever he was told to do to make the other members and Rick rubin happy, but you can tell by listening to the getaway that Klinghoffer had a much more significant input on the music. I like the songs, just the guitar makes me cringe at certain points bc of how forced I think it sounds. "the longest wave" and "feasting on the flowers" were really cool though! Idk just sharing my opinion, would love to hear what anybody else thinks of the album and how their sound might change with this new upcoming album now that John is back!

Reason for that is The Getaway wasn't produced by Rick Rubin. Rick Rubin limited Josh a lot when they were making I'm With You, and had problems communicating with him, and that's one of the main reasons they went with another producer for The Getaway. I don't remember the interview where he said it though.
