He absolutely wasted his talent and knack, otherwise he could hv definitely achieved a much brighter career like his teammates Kallis and DeVilliers, Dhoni, Kohli, Dilshan, Sangakarra, Ponting, etc. He has more odi centuries than his teammate kallis, who's the most successful South African batsman in all forms and had an excellent bowling career as well. He has 21 ODI centuries and kallis has 17. Even after complete retirement from both international and domestic duties he showed very good potential in tournaments later, cl t20 2011 he was a man of the match vs NSW blues. He had a terrific excellent KFC big bash tournament 2011 season with many half centuries and the 3rd highest run scorer in that tournament with highest half centuries and good avg in Perth Scorchers, he reached the finals. His 2012 big bash season was also decent. He didn't utilise his knack and skills and involved in a number of controversies like the match fixing scandal in the early 2000s. His remarkable achievements include 175 which chased then highest ever 434 against an unbeatable Australia, one of the few players to hit 6 sixes in an over like Yuvraj Singh, 90* against Windies in T20 world cup 2007 with a record 14 fours, which chased 205 where the Gayle storm was on fire scoring 117, a very good world cup 2003 where he was the was the fifth highest run scorer who scored 3 half centuries in just 5 games, a very good IPL 2 with 4 half centuries, 101* in friends life T20 2010 for Yorkshire Carnegie, 116 vs India in champions trophy 2002 semi finals where they almost won but he unfortunately had to retire hurt due to an injury. Tragedy cum wastage impeded Gibbs from realising his actual potential.
