- Professor Horace Eugene Flaccus Slughorn was a pure-blood wizard. He attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and sorted into Slytherin house before returning in 1931 to teach as Potions Master. He later served as Head of Slytherin House, before surprisedly retiring 50 years later in 1981.

I like Horace Slughorn. I know he's far from perfect, even if just in the scope of the story, but at his heart he's a good guy. Someone recently described him as a counterpart of Wormtail, drawn to power, somewhat cowardly, and seemingly sorted into the wrong house. Horace once said that given the choice a Slytherin would always choose to save his own life. However, in returning to the castle and putting his own life on the line to battle Voldemort directly, he did the opposite of Wormtail who killed innocent people and framed Sirius to save his own life. Horace, much like Draco later in life, are great examples of the good that can come from Slytherin House. This was perhaps my favorite episode yet. It was great to have an extended episode devoted to such a great character.

I really love Slughorn as a character. He is just so wrecked with grief that he is the one that gave rise to the darkest wizard of all time that he runs and hide than face the truth , it really is a great showing that not all great characters have to be brave all the time that there can be characters that do something to help someone and it backfires greatly and how that shame and guilt can destroy you. really love how the movie Slughorn looks as he give the true memory to Harry, like he is putting his whole life, career, and reputation on the line but he just cant bare the pain anymore.
Whenever you do the life of a character, you always make their actions more understandable and further change our perception of who they truly are. Thank you for that!

I said this on the last video, but these really are beautiful and give so much life to these characters. Your background music and voice create an almost haunting storytelling, and for some reason I almost cried when you talked about what he did during the last War. Man, these are great!
I love this, Horace usually gets ignored but his character really grows throughout the stories. I have always seen him as a mirror image of peter pettigrew. Both surrounded themselves with those they felt they could benefit from or gain protection from but when faced with their fears of Voldemort they both stood at the fork in the road and went down different paths. one turned against his friends when the other fought alongside them.

I've noticed a slight parallel between both Lockhart and Slughorn. Both were persuaded to teach at Hogwarts (prior to this they were both reluctant to take up the post) when they were both informed about Harry Potter being a student there, and that they would have the honour of saying in years to come that they had the privilege of being his teacher at one point or another. I think it's interesting that the decisive point of them taking up a teachers post was the mention of Harry potter being at Hogwarts. Lockhart doing it as to promote himself and rocket his fame beyond that it was already at. Slughorn on the other hand wanted something similar, as he wanted to "collect" Harry and have him as part of his newly formed "Slug Club". Make of this what you will, I just thought it was an interesting parallel to bring up.
Slughorn is an example of not all Slytherin is evil as well as other people like regulas Snape or andromena Tonks

Great video, though would disagree that his feelings on learning of voldemorts death at the end of the first wizarding war were purely happiness/relief, since the events that caused voldemorts 'death' involved the death of Lily, a much loved student of his.

Are you sure it was in 1943 when Tom asked Slughorn about the horcruxes? In that year the chamber of secrets was opened, and they make Voldermort look younger than in the Half Blood Prince than in The Chamber of Secrets

Slughorn favorite students were Tom Riddle (before he becomes Voldemort) and Lily.
We do know that Tom kept at least one of his promises. The one not to tell anyone and told him about creating them.
Also Tom made 7 Horcruxes. Although only a maximum of 7 pieces of soul were in play at once.
Voldemort made his first Horcrux somewhat around 1943 during the summer. Later he killed Myrtle Warren (Moaning Myrtle) using the basilisk. He framed Hagrid for that. He was a prefect by then but it was not his final year. I think he put this question to Slughorn to recruit him into his followers. I think he already knew the answer to the question he asked Slughorn. He was not looking for information,simply a follower. He could tell Slughorn would not follow him. While Slughorn thought Tom was actually asking about Horcruxes Tom already knew all about it.

There is a theory that Neville was actually the chosen one. There’s an underlying text that Voldemort read the prophecy wrong and thought it was Harry. I mean, Neville does end up destroying the last horcrux.
