Young Orphaned Gorillas: See Their Adorable Bond With Park Rangers | National Geographic

- At the Senkwekwe Center for mountain gorilla orphans in Congo, a handful of Virunga National Park rangers live around the clock with four juveniles whose parents were killed. The rangers see their families only every few weeks and are very close to their charges. Chief caretaker André Bauma along with his team have hand-raised the gorillas since they were first brought to the center. The first gorilla, Ndakasi, was found when she was just two months old, near the body of her murdered mother. Bauma cared for her like a human child-letting her sleep on his chest for warmth and bottle-feeding her to help build her strength. After that, three more orphaned gorillas joined "the family" at the center. Since no mountain gorilla orphan has ever been successfully returned to the wild, they will always depend on humans. To find out more about the heroic efforts to save the mountain gorillas in Virunga National Park, tune in to Explorer: Battle for Virunga, June 26 8/7c on National Geographic Channel.

@@denisshillingford5891 @papersplease - I agree with @chillerapfel23 as an African woman - because in my community both inside and outside of Africa I've only really met a handful of good men. Just like you've probably only known a handful of bad ones.
hats off to those who protect them

They won’t go extinct we want these animals here even in 2040
For those without hats, I suggest wigs off.

Just read today that 12 of d rangers were killed 2 days ago! 4 were injured, 1 critically. Please pray for all of dem, their families & d park people. RIP brave men, see u in heaven
So sad. 😭
May the rest in peace they are HERO'S!!!!❤❤❤❤🕊🕊🕊🕊🕊
Killed by who? The gorillas or humans?
@@OnePointLander why would the gorillas kill them... Militias often kill the rangers
@@OnePointLanderhumans
Just went onto their website to find some more info on the conservation. Ended up finding some devastating news of the park rangers/employees who were attacked by an armed rebel group and had lost their lives while on the way to headquarters. The world is a cruel place :(
That’s heartbreaking 😩
No, humans are cruel..........We are Great Apes ourselves, and rather than see ourselves as caretakers of this world, we see ourselves as superiour to the point we think we actually have a right of ownership over nature and the nature we destroy in the name of "progress" and "CIVILisation". We are all born into a society that rewards selfishness and illusion (to reality), and the rest of us can only follow into the shithole that society digs before we're born.....We as a species deserve no pity!
If only better equipments and resources were provided to the caretakers as well. 🙏
That’s really distressing to me
Nooo that’s heart breaking. 😢😢😢😢 shouldn’t say this but I’m going to. The rebels who did this I hope their arm and leg drop off😡😡😡
I could listen to this guy speak all day
Of course with subtitles
Not everyone need subtitles ;) Still a pretty good voice to speak french.
French....
wilfrid......
Yes! I love his French.
These men are a gift from God. They are magnificent.

Luz María Torres II García 🇵🇷¡Hola!
It is truely amazing and awe aspiring.
Evolution and nature actually.
I can never quite understand how anybody could ever have the heart to hurt such loving creatures.
The answer is greed.
When people come up with money related, can done worst more and put the "heart" part away.
no if you do this you have no heart for animals, greed is the driver
@The Sun Goddess 400? more like 10'000.
Because those loving creature will also kill other living creatures and humans as well. Being cute doesn't mean non dangerous.
@@Captain_Of_A_Starship They do it when they feel in danger, they're not even carnivores. Plus most animals kills for either food or to protect themselves, many humans hunt for fun, like wth.
When he calls them "Jewels" my heart melted for these men. True heroes. God bless.
And that's how you know they're related to us. Matabishi waits until AFTER her keeper's back is turned to go back to doing the thing she was just told not to do, just like any proper primate child should! :P
I love her reacting at the beginning, where she's just like, "What, I wasn't doing anything! Honest!"
No idea how in this day and age evolution is questioned. I got it when I was 4.
+Sparrow Flying not monkeys but something like them they are showing signs that one day the become more. Just might not have the chance.
Evolution is a theory and if your believe that I have some ocean-front property in Arizona you might be interested in.
Nic B I believe in evolution, I might also take your offer on that oceanfront property
Periodic Milk Makes sense.
I remember seeing a picture of Ndakasi after she was found, the ranger had his arm around her comforting her bc poachers had killed her mother. Thank you for the amazing work you do, beautiful souls taking care of beautiful souls
Yessssss!!!
1:41 he says “On avait tué son maman” which translate to, “WE had killed his mother”.
@@XxLeoRiversxX It means "We" as in "our kind."
"Humans killed her mother."
But not them, specifically.
“They are half human, and half animal” I like how he said that
You know what he meant. They deserve dignity and freedom too
Half animal half god
sam clark he’s right. They aren’t our ancestors, they are our cousins.
@sam clark technically speaking we're closer related to fungi than anything else but yeah apes are also pretty close relatively speaking apparently orangutans lately have been learning to use Stone Age tools to Spearfish from watching humans so they're on their way to joining us in a few million years I guess
@nordhorny sorry was misremember something about how they are closer to us than plants my bad
See how they love their protectors. Why can't we just stop killing these innocent souls and spread peace and just coexist.
Rainyday Wolf please find a way to contribute to your wonderful sentiment... donate money and or time to this cause. They need all our help!
Poverty
Only those that become trained to humans, any others are fair game as it is still survival of the fittest.
Captain Of A Starship when it’s not a fair playing field whereby high tech is used to kill animals, their natural habitats are stolen away and food and water used up ... we cannot use the archaic destructive useless mentality of survival concept. Now it’s time to preserve, protect so planet doesn’t die and innocent species go extinct not by any natural forces by humans intentional greed and violence towards animals.
Jesus is the perfect example on how we should treat one another
Heroes taking care of their babies their "Jewels."
Don't be anti-Semitic.
This guy's french sounds so cool with his African accent underneath. The gorillas seem to be doing really well in his care too.
André Bauma and Lek Chailert are two of my greatest heroes, angels walking on Earth.
I can see the love and reverence for the gorillas in his eyes.
there is a documantary on netflix about them called verunga, i really recommend it!
*Virunga
Thank you! 😊
Thank you, just added to my list :)

Andre Bauma & Team...God Bless you all for your compassionate, gentle & loving hearts...Knowing these *MAGNIFICENT* creatures are finally safe in your care fills my heart with tremendous joy...Warm hugs from the U.S.
I love these protectors. They are my heroes. Thank you for taking care of these magnificent creatures.
Imagine the whole world had this kind of compassion for all living things?
Love has no language....no boundary....this act of humanity proves this....
Beautiful, smart and gentle.
I came here on a search for more information about Virunga National Park after coming across the very disheartening news of six rangers being killed there this morning. These people are truly heroic for putting their lives on the line to protect these beautiful animals. This world is crazy enough but we are still blessed because there are heroic and dedicated people like them out there. Much respect.
They have a close relationship with the gorillas. Gorillas are very smart and know to show their emotions to humans who take care of them.
Thank you for the time and care given to the beautiful creatures. Bless All of You.
Beautiful AFRICA 🤝💞💓💥💨🦍
@Eromanga Sensei your anime profile picture automatically makes anything you say invalid and irrelevant
Eromanga Sensei you’re not really wrong
Murdoch Chan I would literally rather live in Africa than be a stinky neckbearded weeb
Albus Dumbledor you’re probably not far off soooo what’s it gonna be? You gonna shave your neck or move to Africa?
Dagger Song ahh typical wetwipe, not going to reply
Love when he said they are half human half animal.. that’s so true
Park rangers are the heroes we don’t deserve but the heroes we need
these park rangers have noble careers.
Im so proud to be Congolese❤️🇨🇩🇨🇩🇨🇩
And you should be.
such a beautiful part of the world. my heart hurts for the Congolese working class who are abused by the world and the Congolese ruling class.
Does everyone from the Congo speak French?
So proud, these guys are great but what about the others killing all the animals and the women that are raped on an unprecedented amount.
Toni sumblin absolutely
Thank you gentlemen. We owe you a debt of gratitude, in return you guys get to forge friendships with the best souls on the planet
It warms my heart to see these animals loved and well cared for. We need more people like this in the world.
A heartfelt job! These men are replacing the parents of the little apes and doing an amazingly loving job
Gorillas are so affectionate and smart. These guys taking care of them are well loved; we need to protect these majestic sweet creatures.
Those Keepers and Guards are TOP GUYS. We ALL owe them a debt of gratitude for putting so much of their lives into protecting the Gorillas. Massive respect.
So much respect for those men.
Its just beautifull to see how these guy treat and respect the animals with love.
Respect to these guys
I remember watching "Virunga" on Netflix, and reading other such stories about these brave and brilliant men fighting to protect wildlife in the DRC. It's such a heart warming clip
What a kind, well spoken gentleman working for a great cause!
I would like to personally hug these people who have such compassion for these beautiful creatures.. HUG❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
So wonderful. Wish all humans can see the beauty in these animals. Thank you for your love and compassion for the gorillas x
Its beautiful, his whole life has become about the gorillas, and though it doesn't seem like a lavish life, he seems content. I envy that.
Andre Bauma and the rangers are heroes. Plain and simple!
RIP Marsha and Ndakasi - we’re so heartbroken but thrilled that André loved you both as his own children. He has dedicated his life to all four of the orphaned mountain gorillas. What a special Angel on earth. Many blessings to you all!!!
You're doing wonderfull work. Much respect!
Who could dislike this? Omg this is precious ❤️
Poachers...that's who
It is so beautiful to see how these beautiful gorillas trust you and care for you I think you are great how much you do for them and teach them god bless you
A huge heartfelt THANK YOU to the ladies and gentlemen who take the time help our furry friends of the jungle!
True heroes...thank You for all you do for these orphans....we need so many more people like you to protect our wild life around the planet.

people who dedicate their lives to animals are the best! so selfless and so beautiful these animals have been given a second chance! it warms my heart
Great to see people protecting these beautiful creatures and saving them.

RIP NDAKASI 😢🙏
People from Congo take the best care of the animals there. They actually truly care for them and risk their lives to keep them safe! God Bless them all ❤️🙏🏽✝️
Good God, those close-up shots of their faces... can never have enough of those.
Humans CAN be amazing, hats off to these wonderful men!
GOD BLESS all the Rangers who protect, care for and love these Amazing, Smart, and Loving gifts from GOD!
Thank- you to all involved.
Bless these men. Protecting and nurturing vulnerable souls that can’t do it themselves.
All animals deserve love and respect. For those who show kindness to tbem, you are my heroes, and theirs too. Blessings
Its so heart warming to see such a beautiful bond between humans and gorillas 💟
It's hard to hear their stories but the love & care they have is wonderful.
The world is still a great place sometimes. Warms the heart this bond they have♥️ Such a tragedy that many Rangers were killed at this park just a few days ago. Heart breaking
You can see the love they have for each other. Very beautiful.
What you have done for and with the gorilla's is amazing. They have bonded with you, and better yet, with each other, which means they will bond later, with their own species, when eventually released into the wild.
But they said the gorillas can't be released because they depend on humans to feed them, they are going to be in captivity all their lives.
They are so amazingly beautiful and intelligent; thank you for saving them. May your conservation efforts thrive.
They are half humans & half animals who love each other greatly. They are really lovely, like kids.
So wonderful, thank you for protecting these animals. I hope these men have the same care and protection throughout their lives as well.
inspirational, gives me hope for humanity knowing there are people who love and protect these majestic beings.
There’s actually a documentary about this park on Netflix and I recommend this so much!
Literally after I’ve seen the documentary, I got up and donated.
Thank you for loving them and taking care of them.
Awwww I’m so glad you’re helping them that is so sad I don’t know why anyone would ever want to hurt them they are precious I love them I think they’re very precious thank you for taking care of them God thanks you too😊💜💕
Love for this Gentle Creatures, and Respect for this magnificent Men! Africa Rules! We Can Continue to protect the Animals!
What an amazing service these guys are doing. These animals desperately need protecting.
Thank you for giving new life to these orphans. You are very special and have hearts of gold💜
My heart breaks for these beautiful souls. Humans are the death of our planet. Thankful that their guardians are doing their best. THANK YOU 🙏🏼
What Positive Attitude by the Caretaker. Respect to all the Men caring for the Giants
I hope and pray that animal trafficking will end
They ARE jewels. It is a proud profession to be the guardians of these wonderful half human, half animals. Thank you!
So much love and respect for these adorable animals, and they deserve every bit of it.I just love them so much.
Imagine the feeling of empowerment having a beast that could tear you to shreds look up to you as a parent....
God will bless them for caring for His magnificent creatures.Thank you!
I had no idea about these guys. Absolutely amazing and heart warming. You can clearly see the emotional investment and trust. Much respect
Thank you all for protecting them ❤️
What a soothing voice/demeanor. What a gift to each other they are. That's beautiful 🤗
This keeper has just got himself onto my private list of 'Men of the Year...' This is wonderful. And a job from heaven. The love is plain to see. I'm only a wee bit sad because these magnificent animals cannot ever return to where Nature intended them to be... Great job being done here though. ❤️
Thankyou for caring for these beautiful beings.
Those rangers at Virunga are so dedicated. Real heroes.
Beautiful yet very sad...
Most of us are united in love, enabling life to flourish. Those whom kill are a separate branch of greed, selfishness & hate. These caretakers embody the best of the human spirit.
I’m so profoundly glad these men and women are being the custodians they are. It’s sad it is a necessity, but I’m grateful for their commitment.
Mr. Baum's you guys are ANGELS! I pray for your health and love, for you your families and those babies.
Man, that baby gorilla can tear that grown man apart with his bare hands. That's amazing!
No it cant!!
Amazing men these caretakers are. They are amazing and jewels themselves. Xo
You are angels for protecting these animals!
Wow even being young the gorillas have to be very strong, I give these guys so much credit! What an amazing job!
Great service to our cousins in need your help is awesome and I love all of you for what you do god bless and keep you safe and well.
There have been at least 48 visitors here without souls... someone needs to call Sam and Dean.
Alyas Grey ...how can anyone not love this story. It warms my heart. I would like to be a part of their team.
Alyas Grey some just thumbs down because of the insinuation that the ridiculous “theory of evolution” is true. Theee would’nt be apes anymore if they evolved to humans. Why didn’t orangutans evolve into anything ?
Alyas Grey I like the supernatural reference, you have my respect
@Jerry Perry Our ancestors were larger not smaller.
@@poeticskeptic7052 ehh they have evolved into these types of creatures...lol
You can learn so much about someone by watching how they treat animals. It's like a litmus test for good people.
Thank you for the passion you have for the gorillas. I would miss a lot if I missed your videos.
