This is honestly a really cool idea. I've never heard of anything like this before. "I mean it would have been great if there was a boyfriend in the box." 😂 Oh my gosh Rebecca, you're a hoot. Have you tried ear plugs for the noise from your neighbors? I'm sure you have but I figured I should mention it in case you haven't. I realized that ear plugs won't completely cancel the noise out, but it could help you a little.
I have... over the years I've used Quies - but I'm not a fan of any earplugs - I'd rather listen to music (which gets me to sleep but the buds fall out during the night and I'm woken up again). I find they enhance my body noises, like breathing, heart beats - which freak me out! I find myself unable to sleep because I can hear and feel my heart thumping through my chest. I know, I'm very odd haha!
Have you ever been evaluated for Hyperacusis? I have a friend whose mother has it, and some of what you describe sounds very very similar to what she experiences. Either way, I hope you’re able to find a solution that works so that you can sleep!
I would definitely file a noise complaint. Your nightly sleep cycles are so important, they heal you physically and mentally. PEEPS NEED TO RESPECT YOUR SLEEP!
Everyone here deserves a good nights sleep, not just me. Perhaps the people above have insomnia. All I know is they are up and down about twenty times a night, usually getting up at 2am and going back to bed by 4am - usually when people start waking up here (as many commute to London amazingly!). So once that starts, I just can't get back to sleep. Add in the drunk neighbours, the washing machines, the taxis and the front door slamming - it's amazing I get any sleep at all haha! :D
Did they advise that the dishwasher wasn't working when you bought the place? I don't know about the UK, but in Western Australia it's illegal to sell a property with a faulty appliance unless they have expressly stated in the contract that the appliance is broken.
Im not sure if you've addressed this before but do you use ear plugs? Also, we used to advice people who came into my school clinic with tinnitus (ringing in the ears) to sleep with the fan or something with white noise to mute the ringing so they can sleep. I don't know how that would work for you but I suggested this to a friend who had sleeping difficulties and sensitivity to noise and it worked well for her..
i honestly have been missing out on your videos in a looooong time because it hasn't been showing up in my subscription box. it's so good to watch you again. 💛
I'm a recent home owner as well - there are so many little (and big) costs you just don't think of until they show up! Some of our shingles on our roof just blew off in a recent storm and they're still under a one year warranty, but there's a chance they won't cover it because of the wind speeds.
Just as you were saying how everything on RUclips is, in a way advertising, I was noticing Cursed Child on the bookshelf behind you... Even if it's not a spon or not being held up it's there and makes people think of the product... That is also a VERY beautiful box!
It would be great if more places did that. When I moved into my first place, all I got was a refrigerator magnet. Also, I love that it was disguised as an aquarium...
It is almost 2am in New Zealand, totally worth staying up and watching this and being super early to see this. So excited for this chapter for you Rebecca! 🎉
Ahhhh sorry I got so excited to see you saw my comment 😊 I’ve been watching you for a long time now and I am so happy to see your doing well and in your flat. Lots of love from Australia 💕
Wow! Your box was much better than mine from a couple of years ago! Congratulations on the new flat, it looks lovely and you seem positive and happy. Xx
that's an awesome box to get when you move into your first place. my friend gave me a bucket of cleaning supplies when I moved into my first place. everything was put into good use. best of luck in your new place.
I'm moving into my first apartment next August and I'm so excited!! Maybe after you finish getting settled you could do a video giving advice on first apartment, moving in type stuff
It’s great to see someone of a similar age getting a mortgage alone. I moved out December 2016 and got the same box so it’s exciting to see someone to relate to with this experience as it can be lonely as well as exciting! Congratulations and I hope you’re really happy in your new home xxx
I love when they do this.. it’s always a nice surprise when you move :) my fave was stocked full of cleaning products as they remembered me saying I was obsessed with bleach 😂
That box is really good,I didn't know they did those, nationwide are great my mum banks with them and they were brilliant I helping her when my father died.
Was just wondering if you have all electric in your house or gas as well. Because if you have both you won't need to use the economy 7 at 2 rate meter. It can always be charged as single rate by your provider. If you can't tell already I do work for an energy company :) Just thought it's might help.
I'm in the same situation with my dishwasher : ( The people who lived there before me broke it but didn't tell the landlord, and now we're still waiting for it to be fixed... It's public holidays so it'll take longer than usual (to top it off!! 😵). I completely understand that feeling of moving in and expecting a dishwasher, only for it to not work
Are they actually going to repair/replace it or are they fobbing you off? From experience, landlords try to get away with so much... 'Oh, it's not working? Oh it was working last month! I'll get round to it at some point in the next month". You have to be persistant. A few weeks tops is acceptable, any longer is not... x
That box is so very nice! I wish I had one when I moved. For your sleeping, have you ever heard of the Sleep with Me podcast? It's a podcast that is very boring to listen, but made to help you fall asleep and distract you from what's keeping you awake. Even if you don't fall asleep, it is super comforting a creates a «safe space» for people with sleeping problems. If that interests you you have to give it a few tries before knowing if it works for you, but I find I really like it. Just thought you might like to know about it :)
Dishwasher wise. Some companies will take away when they deliver your new one 🙂 also it might be worth speaking to your Estate Agent - if it was sold working as part of your deal and it’s actually broken and has been prior to selling you might be able to sort something that way. (Adulting is tough some days lol)
I also got a box it was actually really useful! (If you renew your mortgage they send you another box) really enjoy your videos keep up the good work x
Great video as always Beckie! RE your noise issues, the fact you have laminate flooring will be amplifying the sound and causing echoes. You need carpet down in these areas and also soft furnishings etc help to absorb noise. My downstairs neighbours had laminate everywhere and I could hear everything they were doing, since then my new neighbour has carpeted everywhere and I hardly hear anything anymore. So glad you have your own place now 🏠😊
Yes! All the flats have the same flooring... I learned today that the elderly lady in the family who live above me, uses a zimmerframe - so that explains the constant noise I can hear. They also have a full fledging dining area, so every time they move a chair - I hear it clear as crystal! Unfortunately, they don't speak English - so I'm having difficulties even getting them to open their door to introduce myself, let alone talk about noise (there are so many problems!) - don't know what to do.
Sounds like a difficult situation if you are struggling to even meet them. I don't know why they allow hard floors in flats but I have known some that have a clause in the lease that says no hard flooring. Mine doesn't but luckily I have a sympathetic neighbour. Hope you manage to sort this situation.😊
Unfortunately, our flooring goes UNDER the skirting boards, so it could be a nightmare getting it up. I'm not even thinking that far ahead, but I can see why others haven't dealt with it or reverted to carpets. Most of the flats here appear to be rented, so again - the landlords probably find that hard flooring does better in properties... the carpets that were in the flat when I first came to see it were revolting, they'd never been changed and they were the same age as the flooring! The previous owners laid the new carpet (very cheap - but hey, new carpet) which was a plus! :D I've seen them downstairs a few times, but they are always with other people - so I'm nervous of approaching... I've tried approaching the door with both my parents on seperate occasions. I've rung their buzzer. Only thing I haven't done is post something in their letter box. I don't think this is boding well unfortunately... :(
Don't despair Beckie, a face to face is better than a note if possible. I have been in this situation some time ago so I totally understand how you are feeling. They must realise that others can hear them and after a certain time at night they should endevour to try keep it down. Fingers crossed for you!
U should listen to the stories of Mr.nightmare or creepy fox or let's read. I srsly can't go to bed without listening to their stories(well not their stories but narrated by them). I just put headphones in my ears and keep the phone to a side and slowly drift to sleep.
Hi, Becky! I’m curious about why you haven’t posted a “picture everyday for n years”? I know you recently hit 10 years (correct me if I’m wrong) and I’m excited to see the collection you’ve attained! If you’ve decided to keep that for yourself, that’s totally understandable. I am 100% not complaining or expecting it of you. Just wondering 💕 love your channel and how honest you are with us. Thank you for continuing to film and post videos!
I just got the keys to my first flat on Monday and I'm still in the process of moving, I bought a desk on gumtree and had to carry it 20mins to my house 😂
They don't recycle plastic!?!?!?!?!?!?! Well done for going to the effort of taking it to you parents. I'm always taking ice-coffee bottles home with me if the cinema doesn't have separate bins.
Hi Rebecca, have you checked to see if your dryer and dishwasher could be repaired rather than having to replace? Do your landlords help, or are you expected to take care of your own appliances? Most of us know how frustrating that can be.
Yes, the dishwasher can be mended, but the cost of it all is so expensive, my Mum says it's not worth it (especially when the dishwasher is as old as it is)... might as well do the dishes for a year and get another one in the future I suppose! The tumble dryer I'm also doing without for the time being. I'm not really thinking about it to be honest. No landlord, so yup - I have full responsibilty!
We never got a welcome box... 😩😢 but we got an awesome interest rate for our mortgage and for us just having a brand spanky new home to call ours was awesome enough 😊 Ps you’ll find love when you least expect it. Pps look beautiful.
That's a really sweet idea and of course is only ever going to be good marketing. Mind you, the cynic in me says you have already paid for it! Dibs on the popcorn...
Yup - that's what I feel! Could I knock £100 off my bill and give the box back? Haha! (Joking, but it does cross your mind!). Definitely marketing and even more so in recent years. They want us to showcase these things on our social media or inspire us to start using companies we've never tried!
I'm curious what made you decide on a flat of all things.... It doesn't seem like a sound choice for someone so sensitive to noise and especially given your previous issues with a similar type thing before? Follow to that, how are you finding the noise and having people on all sides of with very thin walls?
I've written a long comment elsewhere today answering the first question! I'd have struggled with noise anywhere I went haha! If you're in a terraced house, you have to deal with people either side - so it's no different. Sometimes, you can't cater to your difficulties, you have to get what you can. So I'm more than lucky to be anywhere right now...x
Beckie Jane Brown this is very true I just worried that it would be overwhelming for ya and I always wish you the best and happiness for you as I do believe you are a truly deserving person lol
I've just uploaded my trich story on my channel, it would mean so much if you went and watched it. Beckie you have helped me understand my disorder and I can't thank you enough for that. I've still got long way to go with my Trich but I'm going to keep trying to stop and hopefully one day I will XXX
Since UK English is different than US English I thought that mortgage might have a different meaning. I understand now that Beckie is buying her first home! :-) Congratulation to her!! She might've said she was going to purchase her home before but I missed it. Thanks for the response.
What makes you choose between a flat and a house? The price? In the US, we'd call your flat a condo. Just a little language difference that I find amusing.
The original plan was a house, I would have preferred a little house if possible - however it became apparent that after reviewing multiple areas and houses/flats and with my budget - a flat was the best option. It was either buy a newer built flat (therefore it needs no renovation, has no hidden expensive surprises and I'd know where I stood overall in terms of finances) OR buy a victorian-age-terraced house complete with complicated structures, extra wiring, problematic plumbing, bathrooms down the garden and it needing £20K on renovation. I think I've made the best decision overall. Many decades from now, I'd love my own detached little house somewhere! :D
Beckie Jane Brown I have a duplex right now. One day when I save and save and save, I'm going to get a detached house too. I totally understand compromising because of costs. Homeownership can get expensive!
Yeah, I could have bought a terraced house with my budget and yet get in to find myself in over my head in money problems! One house I was looking into was so lovely but another person looking at the property had a survey done and they found the basement had damp. The seller had painted over it all thinking buyers wouldn't find it! Then when the property next to that house came on the market, I got excited... but it appeared they weren't aware their neighbour had severe damp next door (it can impact other homes apparently). Anyway, simple things like that can ruin a property if you're not aware of it all :(.
I had one house I put an offer on and then had an inspection done. It had so many little problems that needed fixing that I pulled out. Moisture in the only bathroom and an AC unit that was on its last legs. In Florida, you have to have AC. That inspection saved me so much money.
We call them surveys here, same thing. Yes - it's amazing what the surveys find. Even the property I'm in came back all okay - but a little potential problem in it's future (50 years time) which sounds so far away, but it could impact future buyers I suppose. There's so many things to take into account, it's nanas!
I do have jobs (I'm a freelancer) and no, it's in MY name of course. I don't have a 9-5 12 month contract job - every week is different. Freelancing is work. x
I POSTED A HOME TOUR EARLIER THIS WEEK! YOU CAN SEE IT HERE: ruclips.net/video/2NmRtWo5d48/видео.html X
Beckie Jane Brown try noise cancelling headphones 🎧 they may help with the sleeping. That’s what I do. Congratulations 🍾 on the new place 😊😊
Lumps on your skin!? Oh no! We might think that you are human not an android. :P
You look so much like 2014 Rebecca in this!
This is honestly a really cool idea. I've never heard of anything like this before.
"I mean it would have been great if there was a boyfriend in the box." 😂 Oh my gosh Rebecca, you're a hoot.

i got a good giggle at the boyfriend bit
Same ^^
same
This was like the funniest line she said in months!
I love how appreciative you are Becca... such a lovely change from the normal modern day attitude!
Your struggle with that spray bottle was the best thing ever. So funny!
When I have moved into a new home here, I received several vouchers for "Welcome to the Neighborhood"...things like free pizza or donuts.
I would definitely file a noise complaint. Your nightly sleep cycles are so important, they heal you physically and mentally. PEEPS NEED TO RESPECT YOUR SLEEP!

Beckie Jane Brown agreed, i pray it all gets resolved soon.
11:16 when you apologized to the cleaning supplies for dropping them; that's very me, lol.
Did they advise that the dishwasher wasn't working when you bought the place?
I don't know about the UK, but in Western Australia it's illegal to sell a property with a faulty appliance unless they have expressly stated in the contract that the appliance is broken.
I laughed so hard when you were trying to get the Febreeze to work!
Im not sure if you've addressed this before but do you use ear plugs?

That was so sweet of them! Your hair and makeup look beautiful! Loved the boyfriend part.

aw i wish they did something like that here!!!
AHHHH I was just wondering when we'd get another Beckie video. My day just got 10x better!
It is almost 2am in New Zealand, totally worth staying up and watching this and being super early to see this. So excited for this chapter for you Rebecca! 🎉
Your makeup looks stunning 💕
Ahhhh sorry I got so excited to see you saw my comment 😊 I’ve been watching you for a long time now and I am so happy to see your doing well and in your flat. Lots of love from Australia 💕

I just love the differences between British English and American English!
I was pretty lucky myself. A lot of furniture is from my boyfriend's mom and most of it was just sitting in her storage unit. It was awesome.
Beckie, you're too wonderful. 💐
I'm moving into my first apartment next August and I'm so excited!! Maybe after you finish getting settled you could do a video
giving advice on first apartment, moving in type stuff
I love your expressions when youre talking

I don't know why I find these vids so relaxing. so strange.
I was getting a ton of acne on my chest for no reason, I found that the cetaphil bodywash bar really helped.
I found your videos through looking for Trich videos, now I tune in to watch all the time!
I’ve been feeling kinda lonely. Thanks for keeping me company. :)
Loving these vids in the new home
I love when they do this.. it’s always a nice surprise when you move :) my fave was stocked full of cleaning products as they remembered me saying I was obsessed with bleach 😂
laughed way too much at your with the febreze. so funny!
That box is really good,I didn't know they did those, nationwide are great my mum banks with them and they were brilliant I helping her when my father died.
Awww, sorry to read that - but that's good they were supportive in the circumstances... xx
Was just wondering if you have all electric in your house or gas as well. Because if you have both you won't need to use the economy 7 at 2 rate meter. It can always be charged as single rate by your provider. If you can't tell already I do work for an energy company :) Just thought it's might help.
I'm in the same situation with my dishwasher : (

Endorses Clipper Sleep-tea -- haven't slept for a week...
Haha! Well, I've actually run out at the moment. I've been drinking Pukka, which I don't think is very good ;( x
I also got a box it was actually really useful! (If you renew your mortgage they send you another box) really enjoy your videos keep up the good work x
You were close with 'flash and the dirt is gone' bit it's bang ;)
Grace niamh SO CLOSE!
So fun watching you struggle with Febreeze😂😂😂
Your hair looks amazing Becca! It has a really nice shwoop!
I loved you opening the box...its so mysterious and anticipating wondering what's in the box....great upload thanks....have a great day
For the Electric company look into Bulb! They're a environmentally greener supplier and for the most part cheaper!
I've lived in my house for 3 years now and I STILL don't have a shoe rack - you're all set!
You look artsy and cute ;)

So much stuff in the box)))

It must be an American thing, I LOVE buttered popcorn!!! 😂
Ugh every time you say BOYfriend my little heart sinks~ :P love your vids!
Is that a little cat urn in the background on the shelf? It looks just like the urn I have for my beloved late kitties ashes 💗
Here in the States, have you tried kettle corn? It's sweet and salty.
It rings a bell, possibly! Though I can't recall!

I love your hair right now!
Oooohhh I love the Clipper calming chamomile tea. We get tea from that brand in some stores in Australia :D Have you had that one?
By the way... I now sit through every awful and tedious advert to ensure you get paid 🤣
Me too.
'So I have some washing tabs-- don't eat them.' *looks at camera pointedly
That was unexpected but I laughed aloud pfft...
I just got the keys to my first flat on Monday and I'm still in the process of moving, I bought a desk on gumtree and had to carry it 20mins to my house 😂

"Beckie Makes Tea" video puh-leeez
OK, at @11:57 , was I the only one screaming "Twist the tip!"?
You rock. Proud
In that missing something part i got all serious and stuff and then u said "boyfriend" and now i can't stop laughing....
I got one of those boxes, it was a nice touch. Also congratulations on being one of the few millennials to independently buy a house in the UK...
stx I think it is technically a flat not a house hence the upstairs neighbours.
Sarah Camley true, I have a mezzanine flat myself but I call it a house...
I was not expecting that quip about the boyfriend!
Love ya Beckie😌

Is mortgage the same as rent in the proper context?
mrlevittown Mortgage you'll eventually own it where as rent it belongs to landlord...
Since UK English is different than US English I thought that mortgage might have a different meaning. I understand now that Beckie is buying her first home! :-) Congratulation to her!! She might've said she was going to purchase her home before but I missed it. Thanks for the response.
GO TO BED!!!
I might be a bit old for you, but i would take you out. i'm not hard to find on the internet if you know where to look.
More drama! Not slept for 6 or 7 days..... Ok!
Yup! This was recorded about ten days ago - rough week.
It's the end of the world - oh woe is me haha! :)
Sunflower Monroe srsly man, stfu ok. Be respectful.
Is the mortgage in your parents name...seeing as you have no job?
I do have jobs (I'm a freelancer) and no, it's in MY name of course.
I don't have a 9-5 12 month contract job - every week is different. Freelancing is work. x
