I don't mean to be picky but Martin Parr's work mentioned above isn't shot in New Brighton, outside Liverpool - it's Brighton, on the south coast of England (Liverpool is 350 miles away but I love the idea of it having a suburb called New Brighton!) Thank you for the talk, Dotan, your observations are right on the money and the photographs pleasingly authentic.
Inspirational photos! I’ve begun a project called Looking For Dégas because I am intrigued that he found inspiration for his paintings in early candid photography. Particularly blurring movement and “cutting off” subjects at bizarre angles. The pics must contain people and be unposed. Does that sound like a viable project idea? I wonder if I am being too restrictive on myself but for me, those are the factors that make a Dégas a Dégas, and I want that to be recognisable in my work. What do you think?
Sounds good , I love the work of Degas . I did some stuff with different angles on a street corner I shot from behind a pole and unknowingly was on an angel . And some steeper than others .
I strongly disagree. The point is not to find something new. The point is to have a fresh take even on something that has been documented before. My Venice Beach project is the living proof of that.
Video starts at 18:40 mark.....the first 18 minutes is Dotan showing off his project....kinda boring....and then more about him again.....where is the help on us starting one?.....bye
Sorry you didn’t find anything interesting in there. I show my work as examples of projects to anchor the talk into something concrete. Sorry if you were looking for something more theoretical. Concrete works better for my students so that’s how I teach.
We hope you found this advice helpful! What personal project would you like to work on?
I would like to do a series of portraits (families, individuals) in hospice care. Not just end of life portraits. Character portraits. Daily life.
Glad to see the video on RUclips! I hope this will be useful to photographers out there.
Fabulous
One of my favourite presenters and photographers. A unique style that captures his subjects so well
Quality video. Thank you.
Super helpful resource and information. Thank you so much!

Sounds interesting!
Sounds intriguing but there’s no way to know if it will work until you try it.

Thank you, this is great encouragement to start a project, and how to. thanks
Thank you 😍
Very nice ... work
The problem is trying to find something to shoot that NO one has ever done before.. Something hardcore and promising!
