Karen, I'm not overly impressed with the wooden utensils either. Kinda shocked at the price, really. Anyway, those were created using a digital laser cutter and I have found with mine that I can wipe my wooden items with an alcohol wipe and it will take most of the smoke marks off. It's really dark under the word Jose and the bow-tie and umbrella. I usually do that shortly after I take them out of the machine and it works really well so I don't know how well it will work now after being engraved so long ago, but I would try it. Also, I have found different pieces of bamboo engrave in different colors, some darker and some lighter. That's the reason Jose is so dark and Donald so light. As far as I know, there's nothing the manufacturer could have done to fix that.
