Hopefully I am the first comment on here, I really want to say thank you for all you do on this channel if I had met you before my first film I'd have been much more happy
I'm so grateful for the advices, and I love to see your continuing love for creating films. Keep thriving!, as I hope to see you produce greater movies.
I've filmed/directed/acted/written plenty of independent passion project short films and a full length 90 minute documentary, including a documentary series with segments between 20 minutes and 45 minutes each. I enjoy working solo because I can write my own story, film, act, direct, however, wherever and whenever I choose without others breathing down my neck, telling me what to do. Everything moves along pretty smoothly, as long as I have everything planned, checked, and ready to go before filming begins. Yes, it takes extra time, but I enjoy doing all of it. My favorite part of filmmaking is doing the editing and choreography during B roll scenes.
I love love love your tips...I wish I knew this before my last shoot a month ago...I would use the tip where I would watch my actors go through the whole scene before starting to shoot..my God if I had done that the final shot wouldn't look this bad...I would have caught the mistake instead of catching it while I was editing..thank you so much!!
what are your thoughts on directors/writers sitting on a screen play or script for awhile(without a deadline) waiting for "the right time" or the "missing pieces"?
I think it depends on the idea and the project. If it's something that really needs that vital actor, or location, or missing ingredient, then developing it until it is the best it can be will probably help. If it's an idea that can be easily done with any time, place, cast, and can be done cheaply / quickly / easily then that's probably one to get on with - and learn from 👍
People....we need to get organised...we are all chipping away on our small projects..we should get organised and work on something bigger, via t'internet....we all have various talents, things we can do better than others, access to locations etc...all we need to do is get organised. Who is interested? Reach out.
