And he sacrificed himself here even after being beaten up by Luka's party, taking Black Alice with him in a place of no return as an attempt to try to save the world one last time in a way he only knows how-backstabbing then disappearing. But before he left, he told his son to save the world in his own way and not to become like him (which inevitably in its own tragic way, he does become like him). He was far from being an exemplary father, and he wasn't in a good state of mind considering what he has been through but the madlad was a legendary badass until the end
Marcellus's fate was tragic right from the beginning if it wasn't for the third route. Honestly, my only complaint about this scene where he sacrificed himself is how lackluster it is. They could've made Marcellus's sacrifice much more dramatic and much more impactful to Luka. Instead of transporting the both of them away in a chaotic dimension, they could've made it so Marcellus charges back at Black Alice, Black Alice delivers a killing blow to Marcellus and then he collapses. Luka would've been distraught to see his father dying before his very eyes but Marcellus reveals a trump card then opens a portal and sends Black Alice away. The devs could've then also put a CG of Luka holding his father's dying body in his arms and then have them talk. This wouldn't probably be too emotional, considering at that point, Marcellus and Luka barely interacted with each other but at least we'd have sort of like a father-and-son moment and would've made the Alice route significantly more intriguing to follow
Sonya: everyone, we must finish the puzzle. Alice: what about breakfast? Sonya: we already had it. Alice: we've had one, yes. What about second breakfast? (Sonya walks away) Luka: i don't think she knows about second breakfast Alice. Alice: what about elevenes? Luncheon, afternoon tea, dinner, supper? She knows about them doesn't she? Luka: i wouldn't count on it.
I can already see a problem with Marcellus’s claims about White Rabbit. If the latter is truly a Monster Lord from another world consumed who has been by Chaos, then why did she take the actions she did? For starters she guides Luka in the first two parts regardless of whether he chooses Alice or Ilias, when by this logic she should have only guided Alice. Then there’s the fact that she intentionally bring Sonya and Nuruko to you before the end of Part 2 if you didn’t recruit either, which almost certainly means she knew both WHAT they truly were AND what their presences at the part’s climax would cause. If she didn’t bring Nuruko Sonya’s Chaos Form wouldn’t have been neutralized and the Paradox world consumed by Chaos: an action that completely goes against Marcellus’s claims about her goals.
