My late mum used to work at Whipps Cross opposite to the hallow ponds everytime I hear this I think of her with happy tears. The green man pub hasn't gone it's just been renamed O'Neils.
I don't listen to it often but I agree. Not exactly bops but they are all brilliant takes on the human condition and the music is haunting in a good way.
Yep, we sure did. I’ve got photos of me and my then 7 yr old daughter bathing in the Serpentine river during a heatwave in 1997….Life then just seemed so sort of uncomplicated….even tho’ we weren’t well off, we just « got on with it » How the world has changed since…
Not a fan of anything Albarn has done outside of Blur. Graham Coxon is the true guitar genius. Damon on his own is too much melodramatic for me. Graham Coxon is so much more talented. But together they're magic. Wish just the 2 of them would write more.
Regarding the guitar chops you surely like to state the obvious here. Of course Graham is the much more accomplished guitar man and noone in his right mind would ever question that. Damon seems rather mediocre with six strings, but that´s not the point. He knows, what he can contribute to a song on the guitar and what not. It´s not an ego thing here. He´s a true musician and true musicians most of all know, when to be quiet. His legacy will not be that of a guitarist but certainly not inferior to Graham´s. And if you ask me, it´s never been a competition anyway and we shouldn´t try to make it one. And yes, I love them both.
I love that he respects live music being played by real musicians. he's got a true gift when it comes to making great music
I couldn't agree more!

You can tell he's reliving a lot when he plays this. So many memories.
This song, and the whole album are so emotional... I love it
Personally I think this solo album was the best work on Damon career.

There was something about growing up as a kid in the 70's....

This song captures that feeling of bittersweet nostalgia so well. Haunting.
