    I am re-visiting the Leica PRS 5-30x56 scope, but this time with the L-Ballistic reticle that is more to my liking. Optically and mechanically, this is a nice scope. I need to do a little more shooting with it before it goes back, but so far so good.
    In this video, we mostly look through the scope at the reticle features.
    Here is a link to the exact model in this video:

    And here is a link to the one with the PRB reticle that I mention early in the video:

    I own a Minox ZP5 mr4 and a IOR 3-25X. I m happy with Minox mainly. I need another riflescope. I m between Zeiss LRP s3 6-36 and Leica PRS. Do you know which has better optics/turrets. I ask for your advice. Thanks

    Nice glass. And nice mountain view from your backyard.

    I think I'm going to pick this optic over the Vortex Viper and Zeiss S3. Thanks for the review.

    thanks for your review. how do you compare the PRS with the Minox ZP5? many thanks

      @DarkLordOfOptics  3 года назад +3

      That's a tough call. I think ZP5 is a little better optically. Turrets are comparable. PRS is, I think, I little more forgiving to get behind. Both are nice scopes.

    Which has better eye relief: ATACR 7-35 or Leica PRS 5-30?

    • @DarkLordOfOptics

      Both are pretty good. I think Leica PRS is a touch better in this regard.

    How would you rank the viewing experience thru this scope compared to top tier scopes? Zco? TT? S&B?

    • @DarkLordOfOptics
      @DarkLordOfOptics  Год назад

      It is quite good, but not as good as TT, ZCO and Z&B. TT is probably still the best overall.

      @@DarkLordOfOptics Thank you. I am looking at either the Leica or the Theos, same price range both seem like great optics.
      I assume the glass is better in the Leica but that's about it. The Theos is 36x, has a rev indicator, non translating turrets, better reticle (although I like the PBR reticle bc I do not use the tree....which is awful in the Leica lol) aperature ring, capped windage)
      Anyway I can't decide which one to get. Thanks for the feedback

    Since you talk to Leica, can you talk them out of the current configuration of the 3-18X44 Amplus? It would be a great hunting scope but a SFP X-mas tree reticle? If anything I could see having their L-4A with wind hashes but their current config makes no sense to me. It seems like it would probably be a great hunting scope otherwise.

    • @DarkLordOfOptics
      @DarkLordOfOptics  4 года назад +2

      I have not yet seen the Amplus, so I don't think I have the right to talk them in or out of anything. Besides, while I talk to a lot of people, most of them do not listen to me. I'll see if I can get my hands on that scope.

    Would you say this is a great multi-purpose scope, for both hunting and precision shooting? I'm looking to add to a Bergara HMR Pro. Thank you.

    • @DarkLordOfOptics
      @DarkLordOfOptics  3 года назад +1

      It is a bit larger and heavier that I would typically want to use for hunting. I also prefer covered or locking turrets for hunting. If that is not an issue for you, it should work fine in both roles.

    Where can I find this scope? Having both on hand is the Stryker as good for the money or the gap in optical quality is much better with the Leica? They seem almost identical in some aspects, how does fov and eye box compare between the two?

    • @DarkLordOfOptics
      @DarkLordOfOptics  3 года назад

      PRS is a better scope. Whether it is worth the price difference is sorta up to you. Leica is available from quite a few retailers. I prefer the L-Ballistic reticle version as I mentioned: bit.ly/3y0CSa0

      I have had a chance to look through a 5.8-40x40mm and a NF ATACR 7-35x34. The IOR was noticeable better optically in my humble opinion. Unfortunately I didn’t get to do much other than look through them. I was really hoping to get your expert opinion on the IOR. Thank you for taking time to reply. Maybe someday you’ll get your hands on one.

      @@chrisshirrel7811 I've seen many IOR scopes over the years. They have been mechanically inconsistent and there are some issues with the US importer, so I stay away from them. Since I have no faith in their sample-to-sample mechanical consistency it makes no sense for me to test them. I can't make recommendations based on a sample of one and, even aside from importer issues, do not have the bandwidth to test enough of them to develop reasonable expectations. Since a lot of what I do here is try to make well thought out recommendations, looking at IORs makes no sense aside from satisfying mild personal curiosity. That's simply not sufficient motivation.

    How does the Leica L-ballistic reticle compare with the Eotech MD3 reticle? Thanks in advance.

    • @DarkLordOfOptics
      @DarkLordOfOptics  4 года назад +1

      They are broadly comparable, I like that MD3 has consistent 0.2 mrad holds throughout, but L-Ballistic extends 5 mrad above center which is useful for certain things. You kinda have to pick what works for you.

    After spending more time on this optic, how's the glass compared to the other in its price range? Kahles 525i and the ATACR 7-35? Thanks for the review!

    • @DarkLordOfOptics
      @DarkLordOfOptics  4 года назад +1

      I like it more than the Kahles. With Nightforce, it is a pretyt close call. Leica has better contrast. Nightforce will probably outresolve slightly.

    • @DarkLordOfOptics
      @DarkLordOfOptics  3 года назад +2

      @@beararmz2nd181 Nightforece scopes generally track quite well and so does the Leica PRS. I do not think anyone claims that Leica PRS is a US Made scope. They get a bunch of sub-assmeblies from Japan, add some of their own optics and mechanics, and assemble it in Germany.

    Do you think it is worth the money over the Stryker ?

    • @DarkLordOfOptics
      @DarkLordOfOptics  4 года назад

      That's a tough call. It is optically better and it has nicer turret feel. However, I still prefer the reticle in the Stryker, so for me, probably not. However, if you take the reticle out of the equation, it is a tough choice.
