In the actual musical he still sounded like this but it was almost bittersweet you know? Like he had just finished the game and the line after the song he says "it's my win isn't it" and throughout the musical we get to see his sanity degrading as he falls apart and this is sort of him coming to an end where he knows he's supposed to be winning but it just seems too good to be true. He's elated to be winning but the tone shows hidden doubt. He's practically hysterical and it's amazing to see
I can't handle how broken Light sounds in this. He knows that without L his world will return to empty monotony and he'll be left alone again with no one who could match or understand him. Meanwhile L is accepting and sounds almost sympathetic because he knows this. This is some Shakespearean tragedy level shit.
I enjoy the English version and the Japanese version for different reasons, but I really love the way they arranged the lyrics in this as well as the interactions between both of them. L still sounds calm even though he's about to die against Light who sounds like he can't wait for everything to finally be over between them. The whole "there's only darkness when the game is over," also emphasises the idea that the only person who can match Light's intellectual level can't challenge him/match him anymore and that the triumph over L will ultimately be a hollow victory because of it.
For someone who thought that he was going to win, Light sure sounded like he was crying his heart and the last dread of his sanity out. XD

I've been trying SO unbelievably hard to find the Kakki versions of the songs. THANK YOU.
