    I grew up down in that hill country and used to canoe the Guadalupe. That river can be very dangerous when you get this kind of rain because the riverbed and everything around it is solid rock. There is nowhere for the water to go.

      Unqualified Park supervisor. The water that flooded your camp was rain, up river hours, or days, before it got to you. I was a park ranger supervisor for 14 years. We are supposed to pay attention to weather.

      Sorry to hear of what you endured with the flooding in NC; had several friends out in Asheville and surrounding Buncombe County in the path of Helene and it was pure devastation. Even worse in such cases because, like the sudden flash flooding in Kerr County, there was so little warning or opportunity to prepare. Best wishes for your ongoing recovery there, and continued prayers for the affected communities in Texas.

    This is horrific. It's difficult to wrap your head around what has happened there. That river must have risen so quickly there was no time to act.

    • @bluevictory1010
      @bluevictory1010 6 months ago

      It did rise quickly. However, there were flood warnings being broadcasted and yet a lot of people ignored it. They assumed the location they were in was enough distance away. I was in a similar situation decades ago, but I evacuated because common sense kicked in. Flood warnings broadcasted, it continuously rains, it's a no-brainer that you need to evacuate no matter the distance.

    • @Kuklapolitan
      @Kuklapolitan 6 months ago +1

      @bluevictory1010 Yes, they were warned but it rose to DOUBLE the amount predicted. ME??? I would have cancelled my camping plans and done something else! Water is lethal when it is moving that quickly.

    I used to be at camper at Heart O the Hills down the road so close that if we were sitting high enough, we could see the lights at Mystic. I heard that Jane Ragsdale, the director at HOH died in the flood. We were campers together there many years ago. My prayers are for her, anyone who was close to Jane, & especially that all 23 girls are found alive & well. This should have been some of the happiest times in their lives. Jane made it that way for so many. So much sadness right now. My prayers are also for the parents of the missing girls. I cant even begin to know what that kind of waiting is like.

    Praying for those girls and their families as well as everyone else in the flood zone in Kerr County and beyond; it's a nightmare for any parent but also a tragedy for the whole community that's difficult to fathom. Praise beyond words for the brave first-responders still out there, working 24/7, risking their own lives to save those kids and anyone else affected.

They are trafficking the 23 girls are you waking up yet. Why can't you all see it. It's in your fake you just have to critically think. FAKE NEWS EVERYONE.... Diddy Ellen Oprah Epstein Maxell are you seeing what's coming. Did you all follow Q. Q said it over and over you can't stop what's coming.

    I'm pretty upset about this. I am a retired Missouri park Ranger and supervised the campground along the Meramec river, for 14 years. When it gets heavy rain UP RIVER, you know it's coming to you, and you take action. Evacuate, or move out of the flood plain. It's common sense. What happened here?

      Negative - leadership, parental, and personal responsibility! I lived in Kerrville in ‘86/‘87 and rains have always produced historical flooding along the Guadalupe.
      Before sending a child off to “camp”, do your research on the geographic location, the camp’s amenities, their counselors/advisors/staff, and what emergency preparedness they incorporate into their Risk Mitigation program.
      As for cutting budgets, there isn’t an agency in existence which isn’t burdened by non-productive measures / personnel and therefore, should be trimmed for efficiency.
      Kerrville’s Mayor - Joe Herring, Jr. is a very good man and will do everything within his sphere of influence and power to get everyone through this tragedy.

    This is not the first time, in the 70s it washed away an entire subdivision in Seguin Texas and again along the Guadalupe River in the 80's. So explain to me why Camps for Children are placed in that area where we KNOW that this can happen. Additionally, why isn't there an Siren or Alarm to warn people to get to higher ground? And this isn't over, the water could still rise if the rains come again. Campers hanging from trees this is not the first time. I just can't begin to imagine in this day and time of safety regulations this is happening.

That it happened in the dead of night makes it even worse, people where sleeping and because there is no formal alert system such as towns with tornado sirens to warn these people. This is very sad for all who have lost friends and family and their homes and vehicles. this flood was a true demon, and so very destructive so very quickly.

    I have to wonder how much of our man made changes have to do with this type of crazy flooding. Gotta tear up an empty piece of natural land to make a road or another Dollar General? That water has to go somewhere.

      There’s power in resources. There’s power in the National Guard, and not cutting the budget of.NOAA. There’s power and logic and common sense. There’s power in not having a personal agenda . There’s power in term limits.

      Where's FEMA? Thotz 'n pra-yerz are fine but they don't provide emergency help when something like this happens. Want to help? Send $$$ with those pra-yerz.

    This was preventable!! When you’re next to a river and it’s pouring and a slow storm. You make decisions to get out or stay. This was preventable the camp failed those girls. The cities failed their communities for not notifying

      Second this!! There were plenty of signs and that area is a known flooding area.bloody 12" + of rain dropped!!! The water was gonna go somewhere 😡
      How the hell wasn't there proper planning and evacuation on that camps part!!! Negligence here it seems like.
      This could've potentially been better prepared and prevented.
