Today I visited one of Germanys biggest grocery stores Metro I have not been inside the store for 20 years and I would like to compare it to the Wholesale place Costco in America. You have to be a business owner to shop at Metro.

The GIV is the king of German supermarket videos. 😁Its always interesting to see different products and prices even if big brother had his eye 👁 on you the whole time. They probably thought you were the local competition scoping out the store....

It’s nice to see German culture. You may not realize that large numbers of Americans have Germany in their family tree. My grandmother is first generation in America so 25% of my lineage is German. So, my Dad exposed us to many bratwurst, knockwurst, schnitzel and spaetzle, German potato salad (no mayo in it) and many wonderful German foods.
I grew up and lived in L.A. for 25 years, great memories but would not go back, love living in Europe
In Holland heet dit MAKRO. Zelfs in Thailand is er METRO, daar kan iedereen binnen.
We have these in the States. Places like Restaurant Depot in the Northeast. Wholesale only for businesses.

Auch die "normalen" Supermärkte wie Aldi oder Edeka sehen das nicht gern, dass da gefilmt wird. Die haben da das Hausrecht und entscheiden, wer da filmen darf und wer nicht.

Annually, my wife and I buy Christmas decorations in Germany as well, but the last time we went I noticed some Chinese stuff as well. I always ask or look closely.

I wish Cosco’s in the US were that clean and organized. Great to see the differences between Germany and the US.
Costco is geared more towards households than this store shown. Ours is very clean but not as much room between aisles.
Everything in Germany is so nice and clean. I was so impressed.
They keep the Costco I go to very clean, it's just tough to keep up while it is jammed full of people.

that you only can buy there when you have a bisness is because you can get it cheeper. You can put the tickets and send them to the taxoffice. Then you got you're tax money back. That is why you cannot buy as a normal costumer. We have that in the Netherlands allso. Have a good day!
We have a similar way in America but they wholesaler does not have to charge and collect the tax. The seller will do that for the state at the point of sale.
But if your neighbor or a frienrd has a metrocard and gives it to you, they dont care that you are not the person on the card

Interesting… CocaCola and beer in glass bottles and none in aluminum cans.
They also have in cans but he did not show it .Glass bottles though are popular for holding beer in Germany . They get recycled .

So it's basically a Walmart, Costco, Smart & Final, IKEA, BevMo, Staples, and Home Depot rolled into one... Neat!!! 😀

179 euro's for a christmas tree made out of plastic, people pay more than that which i don't understand. We had real one's as a kid, and they smelled so good. That store has so much stuff, it would be good to know somebody with a membership. The beer was pretty cheap, and the variety was pretty good. Thanks for the tour, i have never seen a wholesale shop where only business owner's can buy from it. I know in the US, a lot of business owner's shop at Sam's or a place called Gordon's where a lot of the public school's would buy much of their food from. That's funny you got drunk as a kid eating that candy with alcohol in it. You always crack me up Mike. I am sad for your mom that you are coming back to the US, but i do like your LA video's to, especially when you match up picture's of celebrities to the locations they filmed at. I hope you can find a way for your mom to come over, i think it would be great if you ended up touring the country, and get close enough to Michigan so i could meet you, i have never felt like meeting anyone from youtube, but your sense of humor reminds me of how i am, but you are also such a humble good guy. You are one of the few channel's i don't skip through, and i watch the ads. G-d bless.
It’s still good content, Mike. Nice to review a visit to a German wholesaler. They cater to businesses so they move a lot more goods in a typical transaction. Maybe business customers only shop there once a month to once weekly.

Actually Mike they do sell the Kinder eggs in America they just have to break apart easily to avoid the choking hazard

Mike: If it's like the US, they require a business license so they don't have to charge sales tax. That saves them a ton of money to not have to handle the tax, nor be audited by the tax collection czars.
In American English, pronunciation of "iron" sounds more like the German word "Eiern."

We have Metro stores in Montreal, Canada. But there not like that. There regular everyday grocery stores . Hi to mum😊
Seems kind of like a waste to have that giant store with all that merchandise with no one it, thats not how you stay in business typically.
Re: being followed around, I suppose that's what a lot of African-Americans and other POC experience when they go into stores in the US. Just curious: How were you able to get into the store if it's only open to licensed businesses? Given the low amount of traffic, it would behoove Metro to let regular folks shop there. Also, funny that you mentioned K-mart; just this week they announced that the last full-size K-mart store in the US is closing.
He either had a card or borrowed one from a friend .Its not rocket science .

I've been dreaming of going to Metro "Costco" as long as I've lived in Germany. You said it was bulk, and for business owners only. That last part is true, just as it was when Costco was born in my home city of Seattle, Washington. Somehow Metro hasn't discovered the benefit of opening to the general public with a membership fee. (Someone tell me why.) But immediatly you took us to a part of Metro that is not bulk at all. Hrm.....UPDATE - I watched a few moments later where you showed actual restaurant only type equipment. Wow. OK that's different than Costco!

Hello, Not sure how taxing works in Germany but my guess is they only sell wholesale so they do not have to collect and deal with paying the tax collector.

5:28 thats really good beer, i gave up consuming alcoholic beverages in like 2021 i believe after riding motorcycle home ultra drunk. Next morning made it to the beach for the start of my vacation and really was amazed and scared and thankful to Jesus Christ that I didnt get into an accident. Well Mike, anyone can get a smal business card without having any business it´s what like 30-40€ per year last time I checked? You only have to pick a business name but in the end the law sais nothing about you having to actually do anything. And if you have a club you can also get a Metro card.
Why didn’t you confront this person that took your picture and followed you around and let them know what’s up?

Omg! That person that took a picture of you I'd of really been offended & that was not cool at all! That happened to me in a Lowes..the guy kept following me & my daughter & took our picture, he even called us tweekers. It was a real weird thing cause we weren't on drugs or looking to steal. But the vibe was really ROTTON.

You updated again 🎉 and I remembered one of my relatives went to some like , food export in Germany, that's like more than twenty years old and said his company went there for some display stuff , I forget... But he said to me , that the meat stuff there , like pig , forgive my wrong meat parts ...he said is like sooo big ... Like he never saw , probably like legs of the pig 😂😂are so big ...now I knew how big the size of the German products. The cheese 😮😮 . Even a German friend told me , everything outside German, looks to small 😂😅 he said he always hit his head when he took subway in some Asian countries. And I am like , he said the house is smaller according to his German living experience. 😅but he is tall .
Yeah, do they ever have good bread in Germany. Here in the U.S. where I live the bread has come a long ways from the Wonder bread days of my childhood. Some very good bakery's here.

The two prices on every product is just the price with and without VAT. All normal stores and internet shops for end customers show the price already with VAT included which is 19% all over germany unlike the US i think. Ive heard in the US they show prices in stores without VAT, so it looks cheap. The great thing in the US is some states have lower VATs, so i guys you can get an iphone for cheap in certain states. Anyway, in Metro you buy also with VAT but you can get the VAT back if you buy it for your bussiness.( deduct from tax?). I know ppl with Metro cards but its not worth it for me because online prices on price search sites are jusz cheaper, metro is only good to get certain things the normal stores dont offer like argentine beef for a good price because black angus beef is not common in germany, our cattle is mostly for milk, it dont taste good. Of course you have some angus farmers but its not common and expensive.

I agree with you on the bread 🍞 so good and so many options.. and same with cheese 🧀 😋. My last trip to Germany I really enjoyed the lemon 🍋 Radler beer. Low alcohol level so you can drink them all day at the beer garden 😀. Thx for taking us along with you.
