    When I was a child (1980/1990) I remember buying things in glass bottles. All those bottles were returnable for $.05 per bottle. A lot less goods were sold in plastic containers.
    This video is truly heart breaking and disgusting! And no matter how much we as consumers recycle, the problem comes down to companies taking the cheapest possible approach to manufacturing and disposal. Make as much profit as possible per sale. Make a little less and be more responsible. It's not us it's them!

    • @smartchai

      UNDERRATED COMMENT 👍👍👍👍 !!!! I have been trying to tell people that the garbage problem is really the fault of big businesses & companies that are much more interested in profit than reducing their negative impact on our environment ! Ordinary people can only do so much to help out ! These big businesses & companies really need to stop producing so much non-recyclable goods ! Even if ordinary people... for example... stop buying plastic bags, those plastic bags will still be there lying in wait until someone else decides to use them ! The companies seriously need to stop making them !

      @@smartchai I remember when grocery stores gave us a choice of paper or plastic at the checkout counter. I always chose paper. At the time, it was not because of an awareness of the ecosystem but simply because I preferred paper bags. Eventually, I became aware that I was actually helping our planet. Then, one day all the paper bags disappeared, and we were left with no choice. It was plastic or nothing. I've collected my own cloth bags over the years and used those until I ran out, but I've never gotten an answer as to why the paper bags disappeared from the stores.

Seeing the size of these landfills and all the garbage inside them for the first time left me stunned. I live in LA, and seeing the nearby landfills and how packed they were was a stark reminder of the impact we humans make.
    At least one redeeming factor was that the landfills collected methane from the trash mounds and recycled materials on site that could still be used again. So that was nice.

    • @jameslipke354
      @jameslipke354 2 года назад +6

      @@deitrastover4777 Most people know that wood soaked in creosote will release toxic gas, especially when burned. Some pallets used to stack and deliver chemicals like those used for chlorine pools will absorb some of those chemicals just from being in a stocked warehouse. In my experience, and my Dad used to build houses, most people don't recycle wood products because it's much easier to send it to a landfill rather than spend 5-10 minutes researching whether or not it can be recycled. Then again, we now live in a country where grown people have to be told or reminded to wash their hands as well as cover their noses and mouths when they sneeze or cough. Something our 8 year old granddaughter was being taught to do when she was a tiny thing and still does it on her own without anyone telling her to. Nothing really surprises me anymore. People have become insanely lazy, generally speaking . In my not so humble opinion.

    The plastics industry wants us to think that recycling is OUR responsibility. But, given that THEY don't give us any alternatives WE are forced to buy single use plastic items from THEM. And because most plastics are NOT recyclable, the world is being swallowed by plastic. Don't ask the question "what did we do before plastic" since that ship sank back in the 1950's when plastics were introduced to the world and the world went gaga for them.

    I just watched a video that was about a company that is working to clean up one of the pacific oceans garbage islands. They are a nonprofit company and also use the cleanup debris into other objects that we want and use. It was weird that after I watched that video this one came up.
    There is money to be made in garbage dumps. Almost everything in a landfill can be recycled in one form or another. There are so many different products that can be made with the different plastics, like bottles, plastic wood , fabric, even some things that can be used in electronics. The metal can be used in a variety of different products and the wood can be used in pellets, maybe reclaimed wood, paper, furniture and a variety of different things. The organic things like food or any other organic waste can be composted. The paper can be used for other paper products. The cardboard is like gold to some recycling company. They can use this into boxes, paper, wood pellets or fire logs or just about anything that you could think of.

    much of the land fill is plastics and much of it is not recyclable, what needs to be done is to start to put the worlds volcanos to good use, once the recyclable materials are removed the waste can be compresses in to cardboard tubes roughly the size of rail road tanker cars and stacked on waste barges that would carry the highly compressed waste products to a facility constructed on the edge of an active volcano that has a large ceramic tube extending out over the main pool of lava, then the compressed garbage would slide down the tube and in to the middle of the lava where the temperature reaches near two thousand degrees, at that temperature any toxic materials will be rendered harmless, the cardboard tube would be thick enough to withstand the lava for a short while, while the tube sank below the lava and burned up, along with all of the toxic chemicals that would be released from the burning plastics, and the only thing that would be left behind is the ash that would be rendered harmless.
