Den här dagen är det köttsoppa till middag i Katthult. Det tycker alla är gott, särskilt Emil som sticker in hela huvudet i soppskålen för att få i sig sista slurken. Men då fastnar han med huvudet och familjen måste åka till doktorn i Mariannelund för att få ut honom ur skålen. Ett sånt elände, och idag när det ska bli kalas i Katthult och allting, och den fina fröken Petrell ska komma på besök. Flaggan är hissad när hon kommer, men inte vilken flagga som helst, för lilla Ida ville veta om man kunde se ända till Mariannelund i flaggstångens topp och Emil, snäll som han är, hjälpte henne såklart att se efter.
This day is meat soup for dinner in Katthult. Everyone thinks it's good, especially Emil as a sticker all over his head in the soup bowl to get his last sip. But then he gets stuck with his head and the family has to go to the doctor in Mariannelund to get him out of the bowl. Such a misery, and today when there will be a party in Katthult and everything, and the nice Miss Petrell will come to visit. The flag is hoisted when she arrives, but not just any flag, because little Ida would know if you could see all the way to Mariannelund at the top of the flagpole and Emil, kind as he is, of course helped her to look.
Astrid Lindgren’s World, this is exactly every family wish it.
