This happened because the garbage lines up depending on the line clear.
So, for example, a Tetris would send 4 lines in a row, allowing your opponent to send a Tetris back.
Basically, all garbage sent from one clear will line up on lower difficulties.
This is why you will get a very messy board from combos, because each line clear puts the garbage away from other garbage.
