How to make scale accessories in 1/18th! Part One

  • The Dad and Lad RC team wanted to add scale accessories to their 1/18th crawlers as soon as they got them, having watched innumerable scale-trail videos from the likes of RCSparks, etc. However, it soon became apparent that while there are loads of scale accessories for 1/10th scale, there is hardly anything for 1/18th and smaller. So, we had to get creative...
    We raided Luke's old toy box, my old toy collection, the craft box, old clothes, kitchenware, florist wire, thin elastic cord, you name it! For those things we just could not make ourselves, we turned to those clever people with 3D printers - that sorted out bespoke roof racks, and a few scale accessories. However, I'll think you will agree, our home made tent-in-a-bag, bed rolls, wind break, canopy, flysheets, tarps, boxes and bush wires have really made these 1/18th crawlers into dinky scale explorers ready for outdoor adventure. So get your creative caps on and start adding scale accessories to your mini-rigs!
    Tune in for part two when we take the fully equipped crawlers out on the trail!
    The Dad and Lad RC team love our small scale crawlers!

    Great little vid! You are absolutely right almost no good 1/18 scale accessories are readily available. Very creative and makes me want a 3D Printer! Keep up the great work 👍

    Great ideas that don’t involve a 3D printer for the most part. I have seen people use altoid tins as rock sliders and styrene you can make a lot of items too.

      And most of them can be easily scaled up for 1/10th scale and have the same effect/look.

    Want a how to on that cargo net

    • @dadandladrc319
      @dadandladrc319  Год назад

      I briefly explained in the video, but essentially what I did was fasten several lengths of the 1mm elastic width-ways across the roofrack. I then fastened lengths from front-to-back, and as I 'crossed' one of the other elastic, I did a single knot on to it. I then did this all the way to the other end. I repeated this with a few other lengths, and this then gives you a scale cargo net. As I said, a bit of a faff, but looks far more in-scale than using a 1/10th one.

      Our original recently gave up the ghost and fell apart, so just got a new one made, measuring 70mm by 120mm. This is 10mm each way smaller than the original and fits way better.
