@@ona_7072 that combo is even more broken than Balan's costume, and you can just enter both controllers, give an Ice Fairy to the second player, use Soaring Sheep or Floaty Flower yourself, link them and you are good to go just controlling a single character The combo makes so that the floatiness slowly gives you height indefinitely, you can explore whole stages with a single jump

the reason for the Act 3's lengths, is because those are all about exploration specially since they all hide 1 over powered costume each like Chapter 7 Act 3 (the chess world), holds the Triple Jumper (best costume by far)

So if they did like a remake/remaster or sequel that fixed the problems the game had (but that would require basically re-creating the whole game because of how screwed up it is), I'd be all for it.

The only game that comes to mind that pulled stuff like that was Final Fantasy 15, and it got flak for it since previous FF games didn't require supplementary material to get eh full picture (Unless you count 13 locking most its lore behind data logs. But again, it got flak for that. And even then, at least they had the decency to have that in-game). And even then, SOME of the story was still present in 15, and enough to get the gist of what's going on. Balan doesn't even do that much.

Also, IMO SQEnix knows how to make convoluted stories and interesting locales, but they're not great in gameplay department. You want proof? Play Driving Emotion Type-S. It's also not something exclusive to Square games at all? Most long standing Japanese companies pull stuff like that all the time, it's not exactly an isolated situation. Hell, plenty western and European series pull that. Balan is a standalone title, completely new, and this is how it opens with its storytelling. It doesn't compare at all to a popular game getting numerous sequels, prequels, and alternate perspective materials over the course of decades. Balan straight up expects you to read the side stuff to be able to follow what's happening. It doesn't compare. I looked up the emotion game. They're really only attributed as publisher from what I'm seeing, and it's long been established that stuff outside of RPGs aren't squares strong point. They never were. The company was going under before they released the first final fantasy, back when they made racing games and sports games. I don't see what that game adds to this conversation since the main topic is necessitating side materials to understand a story (which even kh's messy writing wouldn't fall under, since requiring seeing the plots of all games isn't inherently abnormal, even if I find kh making every single game necessary, even mobile stuff, kinda poor decision making). As for gameplay, I can honestly say square is only one of many companies with shovel ware titles released by no name subsidies that were garbage. I personally think even their worst offenders of doing stuff like this still had a cohesive enough narrative that none of that was completely required to at least vaguely follow what's happening, and when looking at their full list of games is also a pretty uncommon occurrence. Just marking this up as another instance of that feels almost like it's letting Balan off too lightly.

There is... When in a level you have to kill alot of enemies, to unlock secret Hard mode.. Basically you walk around in circles killing mobs, and then at some (random point) they will Spawn in RED colour. meanning you have to ht them more than once. The enemies Bosses are 'harder' versions of themselves. Defeating a level on hard, will give you trophy(playstation ones) and the door it self will have a red thumps up.. However if the enemy hits you once you re instantly dropped out of hard mode. Also collecting on gold/rainbow drops give you a 10 seconds dance.. LAME Last but not least you should ve gotten the Balan skin (-check the Balan ritual with Tims) as its the most broken skin and mainly requires rainbow drops.. Good luck my G!
Don't bother with collecting all the statues, it's the equivalent of collecting all the Korok seeds in BOTW. All that work, for something beyond useless.
As someone who got all the trophies and costumes in Balan (I know...) I'm just mentally yelling, "Get the Dawn Butterfly! Get the good costumes!" Like all the costumes in the third act are good... except maybe gear king. Didn't seem necessary.
I wonder if a lot of the problems regarding the costumes could be fixed by simply choosing a "loadout" at those dressing room things, and also being allowed to freely switch? Like, there's still a ton of other problems, but instead of having to deal with shitty costumes that can't jump, now you have a full roster of different costumes that you can freely switch between for various tasks. Again, won't fix everything, but how many problems would that fix?
I saw a 100% review of this game. I think if you get every statue or sth along those line you'll receive a Balan costume and will be able to free roam.

Balan wonderworld is actually a sequel to a good game called Busby 3d, you should check it out
