Glad to hear it! Tropical storms can be a right pain to get a handle on - all that invisible air movement !!

Can anyone explain why these tropical storms wouldn't be constantly occuring ? Isn't the sea going to constantly be warm in equitorial areas? Also, I thought that the coriolis effect was too weak to be felt at the equator to cause air rotation.

The sea temperatures do change slightly which is why the earth has tropical storm 'seasons' and why they don't happen all the time. Also at the equator, the Coriolis Force is nonexistent because wind does not rotate at the equator as it does at the poles. At the equator, wind follows the Earth's curvature, without deviating right or left. This video is really looking at Tropical Storms that form either side of the equator in the tropics. Hope that helps.
