I've been watching drag and drives for a long time. What amazes me is the cars are getting quicker but whats amazing is the cars are getting very reliable. Keep up the good work.

I've cracked 2 weld draglites 15x3.5" fronts over the years, those skinny wheels don't take the road use. Had a triple disc billet Duramax converter leak thru a porus weld once. Stuff like that seems to pop up when least wanted.

idk if anyone ever tried but modern bicycle tyres run tubeless with the help of a sealant, which is usually some sort of silicon flakes in silicone milk. If you get a puncture, it self-seals because the flakes clump up together at the puncture and reseal it. Might work as a quick patch with small cracks like that, especially since it works on bike tyres with 120psi on them.

I have Harley’s with spoke wheels and they have a black rubber strip sealed to the rim where the spokes come through the rim so even something like that would keep the center of the wheel sealed. On dirt bikes I used to put a lot of “Tire Slime” in them even before getting a hole in them because it was inevitable that I was going to puncture them and it always helped doing that. That slime quite possibly is made of the silicone based products you’re talking about, but that stuff relays on centrifugal force to spread all inside of the tire so it would never make it to the inner part of the wheel let alone stay there, it would help in tire punctures though. However in Toms case with the cracked wheel I feel any sort of leak prevention on the rim itself wouldn’t give him an indication that the wheel is failing and about to break. If it wasn’t leaking he would have ran that wheel till it breaks and that would either be at an inconvenient time or a very dangerous time. It’s best the leak was there to show him the wheel was failing.

@@deegan727 Yeh, bicycle rims have a rim tape aswell, wasn't sure if it was enough tho. For the sealant you can keep the tyre on by removing the valve stem, which removes the hassle of removing the whole tyre. Thought it might be a bit easier than removing the whole thing.

@@deegan727 But I agree, after fixing the punctured tyre in this case I would've looked deeper into it anyway and only done it if I knew it really was a pin hole and no crack or anything.
Also the bicycle stuff is literally thick milk, so if you can hop the tyre around on its own under pressure it could get to the pin hole and driven in there by the escaping air.

The new inline six was definitely holding its own it sucked the rim ended up failing but nothing a Route 66 muffler shop couldn’t toss some bubblegum welds on a couple of times to keep you rolling.

The bicyclists have a sealant they use for to going tubeless. Some guys have used it for sealing porous Volvo wheels. Almost any bike shop will have some. Pull the valve core, add a few ounces of sealant, air the thing up and bounce it around a bit.
But then, tire stores generally have a few wheels in stock.
