It's because it's not just a guitar. It's violin, a piano, a synth, a drum kit, a sitar for crying out loud. A versatile tool for easily creating a whole piece of music with layers of instruments and sounds. With just one tool.
This will never supersede a guitar. It doesn't have the depth and precision of a guitar, but it is something completely different. The 5 most important reasons to get this as I see it are these: 1. You are a guitar-player who wants to play synths and other VSTI instruments in a more familiar setting. 2. You want one instrument that does it all. 3. You want to stand up and perform synths live while singing too, which just looks and feels better than playing a piano style midi keyboard. 4. You want a different instrument with more dimensions of modulation to experiment with and come up with parts you wouldn't otherwise have come up with on a keyboard style controller. 5. You are new to playing and want an instrument that is easier to learn than a guitar, violin or drums (I personally don't know if this is easier to learn than other instruments as I already play guitar, but they use it as a selling point very often).
I've a reason. You could easily chill in bed with this, and play some tunes. Or when slouched in a chair. Electric guitar can be heavy, and acoustic big and bulky. You could just lie flat on your back and vegetate with this. Surrounded by chocolate wrappers and cans. And still rock.
I am a violinist and I have always been frustrated with trying to play MIDI with a keyboard controller that I have no skill with. I bought an Instrument 1 the minute I saw the demo video and what a great decision! I can play every virtual instrument I have in 4 different DAWs with the tuning for a violin, including playing chords or slides. It is an amazing tool with a bit of a learning curve, but once you get the hang of it you can do so much, especially if you are a guitar player or string player. I had other string MIDI instruments in the past but they has a lot of latency and false notes. The Instrument 1 is accurate and fast and FUN! I use it in FL Studio, Cubase, LogicPro X and Abelton with NO problems. The only thing I wished for was that it was Bluetooth instead of needing a USB cable but hey, maybe someday?
You are doing very well, great video. Have a great day :-) I mean Have you two a great day and the weekend too :-)) Great instrument but I am still into the guitar. Still I think it is useful. This sitar sound persuaded me :-) Very nice.
Very interesting MIDI idea, but if you are focused on guitar and want a cool MIDI device, check out the Fishman TriplePlay. Btw, Adam kinda looks like Matt from the PBS Spacetime channel.
Mostly interested in this for the steel guitar sliding capabilities and not costing over $1,000 like a Haken Continuum or Rolo Seaboard though it’s seriously lacking in the aesthetics department and reminds me of the magical musical thing from the 70s we played on as a kid
I've seen ads for this before. It is really neat...but I dunno if it's $400 neat. There are a lot cheaper synth options out there. This has the benefit of being familiar to guitarists...but that's a HEFTY price tag for familiarity.
Hey Marty! If you haven't already, check out some Jimi that recently came out! I feel like you could help understanding some riff structure in it. Please and thank you🙏
It would be worth it if the output of the device recorded as midi notes. Then you could use it to lay down really good bass lines and place the midi pattern on everything from drums to synths. I want it in particular for retrowave. Then I would buy it. If the output shows up as just a wall of waves then I will just stick to using a real guitar.
Sorry not for me. I kinda like earning my sore fingers. However he did say it plays Slide Guitar. So the Stone Roses do a decent slide (ish) guitar song. Dont know if you've ever heard Love Spreads ,by any chance? Ok I'll knock it off with the Stone Roses requests . Peace!
steve s I dont think it's a guitar replacement but like the guy said, a way for folks to just diddle around a midi in a format they know. Of course it wont replace guitar but it's cool to be able to play interesting instruments as I was playing guitar. Now the price tag is not cheap, I could probably get a good quality squire at that price ($399) but its interesting to see how instruments progress over the years.
my opinion is that this app is little bit much..for beginers its okay but for profesional musicians this is just.. too much like : if you want girl that you love, you want to charm her.. is this what u will be playing on bench in park? :D (just my opinion..) BTW nice video Marty!
I can't help but feel like this device (or whatever the hell it is) was created for the guitar quitters of the world cuz I can't think of another reason to ever purchase it.
I think it would be more interesting if it was showed as a way more simple ( practice and $ ) to learn and practice. But it's been selling as a new way to make music, but it's not!
So it's the illegitimate love child of a keytar and the midi sounds that came on a Windows 95 computer. Yeah I think I'll stick with my real instruments.
Yeah.. Let’s midi synth everything along with software and take out the human instrument connection. No! I don’t think so! This is akin to robots replacing humans in the workplace. Marty should know better....
Good video and cool instrument. Although I cant seem to find a reason for buying that thing over a guitar. But that's just my opinion.
It's because it's not just a guitar. It's violin, a piano, a synth, a drum kit, a sitar for crying out loud. A versatile tool for easily creating a whole piece of music with layers of instruments and sounds. With just one tool.
HEY GUYS I FOUND THE GUY WHO MADE IT ☝ ☝

The fact he's playing it left handed makes me want this even more now. It's nearly impossible to find left handed electronic instruments.
Thanks for watching and checking out this gear! www.MartyMusic.com
What a cool item. I'd love to have one of these for a week to see what I could discover.
Loved the sitar and vibes.

That Sitar was cool. The Maharishi Marty, our guitar Yogi. Maybe a review of some PRS models if you can get your hands on them.
I would never get one in place of a guitar, but to add to a collection of tone makers it looks like fun.
Looks like a lot of fun!
That was cool!!
Once I start playing around with something like that, I can't put it down. : ) Right now I can't stop playing "Life's Been Good To Me So Far"!!
Yes please!
Hey Marty my name is Chris I was wondering if you could put the tones and pedals you are using when you make song tutorials.
I'd rather stick with my saxaboom! big love Marty!
You are doing very well, great video. Have a great day :-) I mean Have you two a great day and the weekend too :-)) Great instrument but I am still into the guitar. Still I think it is useful. This sitar sound persuaded me :-) Very nice.
thats pretty neat!
Pretty interesting. Could be fun to bring along on a trip or plane when you do not have room for a standard guitar or instrument.
I love the color of your squire affinity.
Bought one. Has weird rubbery keys. Goofed around on it. Meh.
Heisenberg Crider hi want to sell it ?
When Marty first started playing it was perfect proof that this is not a "press button to make music" instrument, you actually have to play it. Lol
Look at this thing !!!!!!!
Very interesting MIDI idea, but if you are focused on guitar and want a cool MIDI device, check out the Fishman TriplePlay.
Btw, Adam kinda looks like Matt from the PBS Spacetime channel.
But can it simulate the old waxed paper and comb sound? Also...would I be able to play Free Bird with it?
Just saw your name on the cover of Taylor's Wood and Steel
What’s with the squire bullet
So did you get one Marty? Looks to me like would be a lot of fun I'm thinking about getting 1 pretty soon
Can you plug it into an amp for live performance/mix with other musicians?
Mostly interested in this for the steel guitar sliding capabilities and not costing over $1,000 like a Haken Continuum or Rolo Seaboard though it’s seriously lacking in the aesthetics department and reminds me of the magical musical thing from the 70s we played on as a kid
Sadly, it does not seem to be available on Amazon ☹️
Hi Marty your the best
I've seen ads for this before. It is really neat...but I dunno if it's $400 neat. There are a lot cheaper synth options out there. This has the benefit of being familiar to guitarists...but that's a HEFTY price tag for familiarity.
I’d love to see a video of you playing the harp 😩😂
Looks like Marty's been taking full advantage of Prop 64 :)
Do they make a Marti-phon?
£311.08 sterling, so not badly priced for what it is, I suppose. :) I may consider one in the future.
Hey Marty! If you haven't already, check out some Jimi that recently came out! I feel like you could help understanding some riff structure in it. Please and thank you🙏
Does it work with Reason?
Pretty cool, but it should have a built-in synth for that price or at least have the internal synth as an SKU option.
Cool :)

If I'm not mistaken that's exactly what it does though. I'm still thinking about it myself
Marty you use squier guitars too, yay i'm not lonely.
(though the only reason I use them is because I can't afford anything else. lol
would buy if it wasnt like 400 bucks
LOL.. you looked like you had so much fun
You should do go flex by post malone
Cooooool
but will it shred? @Rob Scallon
5:40 HE LETS GO OF THE GUITAR WTF
Could u do a lesson on blue orchid or little ghost by the white stripes.
I want it but I don't want it at the same time...It's one of those things I just got to have but I wouldn't be able to use to its full potential heheh
Sorry not for me.
I kinda like earning my sore fingers.

oh hey, what a fun little gadget... checks price... $400..... NOPE. i bought a used US strat for not much more that. ~$50.... maybe.

Really cool 😎 Toy
But if it's like $300 to $400 I'll pass
Thank for sharing
I’m still the ,,Real Deal‘‘ guy.
Very cool, but honestly almost 400€ is to much...
I want one but I'm so broke 😭
Plz tutorial on sin city acdc
my opinion is that this app is little bit much..for beginers its okay but for profesional musicians this is just.. too much like : if you want girl that you love, you want to charm her.. is this what u will be playing on bench in park? :D (just my opinion..) BTW nice video Marty!
you know it would be cool if you would actually put the links down below not just say you are and than there's no link
Hey that's cheating
This thing kinda sux lol
Very cool. But I think I would still want all the real instruments.
that looks awful for begginers
I can't help but feel like this device (or whatever the hell it is) was created for the guitar quitters of the world cuz I can't think of another reason to ever purchase it.
I've been playing guitar for damn near 20 years and looks pretty neat to me. It's a midi controller that's in a format familiar to guitar players.
I think it would be more interesting if it was showed as a way more simple ( practice and $ ) to learn and practice. But it's been selling as a new way to make music, but it's not!
Hahaahahah!!!!!!
Meh, i prefer a real instrument, the beauty of it & all. it's just a computer
So it's the illegitimate love child of a keytar and the midi sounds that came on a Windows 95 computer. Yeah I think I'll stick with my real instruments.
First
Cool but I prefer a actual guitR
I think it's weird that to show this thing off the guy put all these stupid sounds on it. How about a guitar sound
Yawn!
gimmicky nonsense..
That suck
Yeah.. Let’s midi synth everything along with software and take out the human instrument connection. No! I don’t think so! This is akin to robots replacing humans in the workplace. Marty should know better....
