I have to wonder what the world wars were fought for today in this land of the bedroom tax, no legal aid for the poor, foodbanks, hunger, no independent living fund, no more real social housing etc The scapegoating of the poor and unemployed and immigrants and asylum seekers. The wars had nothing to do with freedom or democracy- it was a war for global markets, for the empire and the ruling class. There were short-term gains for the working class, but that is all gone. In a country where if you can't find work you have to work for no pay, that may aswell be fascism. The dominant ideology is 'social darwinism' and conservative (basically fascism) when Darwin himself hated tories and hated the way the poor and vulnerable were treated. I really don't get what people are so proud of.

+Anna Key If the world wars were fought for profit and the ruling class they did a fucking poor job of it. by the end of word war 1 most the upper class had lost their heirs along with a substantial portion of the country and by the end of world war 2 the British and French empires were completely bankrupt. the only nation that benefitted in any way were america, who didn't start the war, and russia which lost millions of men and women. despite what idiots think war doesn't turn a profit. either in the short or long term.
Don't walk in here with your half brained venomous drivel and start disparaging the enormous sacrifice made by two entire generations of men and women that ensured most of europe was ale to maintain its right to self determination (and it was, there was no benefit in supporting poland, just as there was no benefit in declaring war on austria in ww1) I strongly suggest you pick up a book or at least learn to read before you start disparaging the armed forces.

I doubt the toffs lost many men, most of them were sending the working classes to do the fighting for them, or ensuring that deserters were shot. Oh and I have read many a book and come from a family that was very much involved with the British military.
