- The Maysles brothers in their only appearance on Late Night, here promoting their documentary "The Beatles in America" and discussing their most successful film to date, "Gimme Shelter."
Clips from both films deleted due to copyright caution.
David was so right about Grey Gardens. Now it's considered one of the greatest documentaries of all time.
Being February 9, 2024 is the 60th anniversary of The Beatles first performance on The Ed Sullivan Show, I once again watched The Maysles Brothers fantastic follow-up to their Beatles documentary. This whetted my appetite to find more video of these pioneering filmmakers.
So charming, talented and humble--and wonderful documentary film-makers whose works have stood the test of time.
Thank you for posting this. The Maysles Brothers left a magnificent, truly unique body of work. No one filmed like they did. The subjects being filmed let their guard down because they genuinely liked David and Albert. They were like two good friends standing in the shadows. That's how you capture honesty and depth on film.
