  • Running from a dedicated platform at Upsala main station, this heritage railway runs for 33km to Faringe through Upsala County.
The track gauge is 891mm, unique in Sweden. The film was made in July 2018 when due to the extreme summer heat steam traction was banned and we had to have diesel traction for our journey.

    Nice video.
I didn't know about this line, and it's still a rather long preserved railway.
Interesting fact is that the diesel locomotive and railbusses are standard gauge designs adapted for the unique gauge of this railway line, which is a tad narrower than the 3' gauge.
The MAK locomotive looks like a German V65, with outside frames and leading and trailing wheels added to reduce the axle load, making it a 1D'1 or 2-8-2 rather than a D or 0-8-0 as the V65
Needs to be on my bucket list for next visit to Sweden.

Hi Tom, it is an interesting line which I visited in 2008 when due to the extreme heat and dry weather all steam locos had been banned, hence the appearance of the diesels featured in the video. As for the gauge, it is 891mm referred to as “3 Swedish feet” but is actually 2’11”. It is well worth a visit and is quite a long line.

@@nephroid7 Three Swedish feet could be right, many countries used their own measurements before the metric system made everything uniform, and a voet (Dutch foot) wasn't the same as a English foot, and so wasn't the Swedish foot I assume, as they were based on the size of body parts, people did differ in average size between countries, and so were measurements different.

Sorry, I dont have details of the loco but a previous comment by @tom-lahaye suggests it is similar to a DB diesel shunted
