  • Dr. Stella Adadevoh was a true hero in Nigeria's fight against the deadly Ebola virus. The Nigerian physician's bravery and quick actions played a pivotal role in preventing the spread of Ebola within the country.
In July 2014, she identified and diagnosed the first Ebola case in Nigeria, Patrick Sawyer, who had recently arrived from Monrovia. Despite immense pressure to discharge Sawyer, Dr. Adadevoh courageously isolated him and took decisive measures to safeguard her fellow citizens.
Her actions led to the establishment of an Ebola Emergency Operations Centre, the tracing and containment of all cases in Nigeria, and the eventual declaration of the country as Ebola-free on October 20, 2014.
Dr. Adadevoh made the ultimate sacrifice when she contracted the Ebola virus while treating her patient, ultimately succumbing to the disease on August 19, 2014. Her legacy lives on through posthumous awards, and a street in Abuja is named in her honour.
