This is one of the greatest songs ever made by an Indian..imo. The song of a soul in existential crisis..who questions where he belongs..
    And now..we have Badshah.

Giving space to people like Badshah and Honey Singh speaks something about a deeper malaise deep rooted within us as a society. Those clowns are always (so called) singing about materialism and we as a society adore and worship material comforts. None of us want to get out of our comfort zones that we have built around ourselves to explore the unexplored. Hence such idiots will never learn.

This song always makes me nostalgic about those heady days of class 12th (year 2004 for me). That last year of school life. Going to school on cycle. Attending Labs, classes, football. Then back home for lunch with this song generally playing in the tv. Rushing to coaching after lunch. Roaming around Sector 18 Noida, after coaching. Going nowhere in particular but everywhere in general. Sometimes cricket in Abhilash's colony. Or Hand squash in Sarath's building.
Sitting in the park after games with sounds of this song coming from some house near or around the park. Talking about life as if we knew so much back then. Talking about our futures. Talking about that girl. Talking about being in touch throughout life. Not knowing that life will separate us all.
Abhilash, Sarath, Pathak, Arvind, Bhatti, Orgo Da, Indu, Shalini, Deepika, Pratik, Vishal, Shubhro. Miss you guys. Take care wherever you are.
I hope you remember me, as i remember all of you.

Since I do not know neither Urdu nor Hindi, I had to rely on the English translation. This poem, describes men's everlasting quest to discover his place in the world. By saying he is neither this or that, compares himself to something that transcend humanity. Identity is either created by us or created for us. The world needs a lot more understanding of others than division among us. I truly believe, that music and poetry are the instruments through which peace can be reached.

It's not just a song, it's the feelings of a person who is going through existential crisis, finding one's identity, who is he, where he belongs, where he came from, what's his name, what's the meaning of life, what's the meaning of the world, what is religion, who is god, he doesn't know who is he and where to go.
I've never seen a meaningful song like this in my entire life. And so much respect to the poet who wrote this poem, and much much much love and respect to the legend Rabbi Shergill sahab.

This is not the kind of song that you expect 14-18 year old teenagers to like, given the lyrics. Still it was among that age group that this song was so popular in India when this was released. As soon as you hear "Bulla ki jana main kaun hoon", you feel a deep connection with the whole of this universe and you start to question the meaning of life and your existence, even as a hormonal teenager. Brings back so many memories!

    ❤️❤️❤️❤️Bulla shah(no ego) ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Bulla Ki Janna, a kafi written by *Sufi Saint* Bulleh Shah (1680 to 1758), from Kasur, (now in *Pakistan* ), is a great aesthetic(philosophical theory of what is beautiful)(सौन्दर्यबोधी)(अनुभूति),spiritual and metaphysical(highly abstract and overly theoretical)(आत्मविद्या संबंधी)composition.
This is a great, inspirational kafi which has always indulged a divine thought in me. I have always looked for it’s good translation and tried to translate it, but could not do it better.I am pasting it after a bit of pruning.
    Bulla ki jaana main kaun

rabbi shergill has taught in this video u dont need to be some cool dude with bikes, cars, hot chicks, trash talking to make a song hit. simplicity and simple video with amazing lyrics and unique personality can make a song blockbuster just like this. just my opinion. LOL
