All of us Singaporeans learn English as our first language. We learn British English in school but due to the exposure to American TV shows, a lot of us speaks American style English. Singlish is something that is commonly spoken among Singaporeans, but most of us can “switch it off” when speaking to non Singaporean.
English is our First language here in Singapore. And wrt the Singlish, most of us can choose to turn it off or on, like a switch if you will. We eliminate the singlish during presentations or formal speaking etc etc maybe even interviews but we still use it in our daily lives when speaking to people we know etc.
Also, just to add.. we study British English here in our curriculum. But of course again, influences from all around the world can’t be ignored I guess? It seeps into our lives and using words like gotta, wanna, gonna etc is just way too common for us when speaking casually.
As a fellow Singaporean , we learned the American accent due to the exposure to American music and movies. But there's one british word which I find it interesting which is the word 'twart'.
Singapore is a bilingual country. English being our 2nd language 👍 And used it schools. Taught british english , but influened over american english. We can switch between singlish and proper english. The better ones would know the american and british difference and switch things up when needed or for fun haha 👍
@@jackjackyphantom8854 Correct. Cuz the time that China and Chinese taiwan was under Britain colonized much shorter than the two countries you mentioned.
@@dddog9674 i dont think thats the reason why. More directly its because the education focus more on Chinese as the language for education than english

这里有一点: have to 不等于 gotta, 只不过含义相同罢了,gotta 来自与从have got to do 到've got to到gotta 的衍变。你作为美国小伙不能不知道吧?
