- Full review for the upcoming Shadow of the Tomb Raider (Potential Spoilers!)
Special thanks to Square Enix and EIDOS Montreal for providing me with copies of the game two weeks early so I actually had time to enjoy the game and provide a detailed and accurate review. Props for helping out us smaller RUclipsrs!
#TombRaider #ShadowoftheTombRaider #Review
Thanks for watching guys! And very special thanks to EIDOS Montreal/Square/CrystalDynamics for providing me with an early copy of the game so I could give a full, detailed review for you guys. Very cool of them to help out us smaller, lesser known content creators.
I have a "Direct Comparison" video rendering right now that should be available later this afternoon that shows the visual differences between Shadow and Rise, so stay tuned! And feel free to ask any questions you have, I'll be happy to answer them!
Waiting for comparison video...
As it is the last in the series i am hoping comparison video will feature all 3 of them...
@@robintirkey8047 i already compared the first 2. I didnt find it necessary to compare all 3 at the same time. I could potentially compare shadow to 2013. But it all depends on how much time i have
Nick930 it will be interesting to see how it compares in comparison to uncharted 4. I love that game. I’ve beaten the first 2 reboot tomb raiders as well. Myself I preferred the first one over rise. To me the story seemed a little flat. At least in my opinion I’ve never found the acting of the main or supporting characters to match the uncharted series. Most of those characters could have their own games like Sully or Sam Supporting characters are strong in that franchise.
Breeze through it on deady opsession... really
Nick930 wait- you got this game done in 12 hours?
This review is miles better than GameSpot’s.
mcrazza Of course, because it fits your agenda...
Nah that explained well why it got that score
gbdeck200 Gamespot also explain why it got a 6...
Let's be honest here this is no different to Xbox Fanboys crying when Sea of Thieves got a low score and PS4 Fanboys crying when IGN gave Uncharted 4 lower score than the rest.
@@holyflame2 This is true
I loved the flashback to young Lara where you played in Croft mansion, it was such a vivid and nice surprise to the story
Right? That was amazing. I would've love if they added an explore the manor like in the old games.
A nice surprise to a boring story. The old Croft Manor scenes were literally the only good parts of the game to me.
I love it because it reminds me of myself as I'm always looking back to my lovely childhood. I miss it.
Lol vivid 🥴
Its like lara said before he sleep about amelia
@@Wilantonjakov Lol you mean legend? Give me a break. While legend was awesome you are hating at this point. Be real with yourself for a change.
Wow! They gave you a copy? I am rly happy to see that because you really deserve this treatement! Amazing review and now I am even more f*cking hyped for this game :D
Just picked up this game. Worth every penny. Very good game.
beware, it isn't anywhere near as good as the previous two.
@@Wilantonjakov Except it IS!
Of all 3, it's the one that came the closest to the what Tomb Raider always used to be.
Ability to have no survival instinct, no cheap checkpoints, no magical white edges showing you what's climbable and what isn't; plus, the best of it all: no hand holding in puzzles!
Unfortunately there's still so much action and boring Uncharted like gameplay.
@@ArcherAC3 Ah, yes, the mechanics are there. But it doesn't feel like a Tomb Raider game, and it doesn't play like one. The story is woeful. It feels like a hollow shell of what it used to be. I could go into this at great length, but I think you know what I mean.
I will admit though, my opinion has changed upon playing the first two again. None of them even come close to the Tomb Raider of old. I'd play Legend, Anniversary or II any day over these.
@@Wilantonjakov Absolutely, Anniversary and Legend were pretty good, only second to the original Tomb Raider games by CODE.
A good story was never really a strong aspect of TR. But my point was, Shadow of TR is a LOT better than the 2 previous games from this newer trilogy.
@@ArcherAC3 Definitely don't agree. 2013 and Rise were at least decent. The story was okay, the mystery was there, and it was believable. I don't feel ANY of that in the newest instalment. Probably because it was made by Eidos Montreal primarily.
Found this on the steam forums, yeah, you're better than gamespot reviewers by far
the best review ive seen/watched of shadow , very informative and full of technical information no one else covers
Love your channel man! Thanks Eidos for recognizing the smaller RUclips dudes and chicks and non-binaries or whatever
the whole thing where she blends into the walls is so cool. and believable.
I’ve been looking for a reasonable review of this game from someone who played the classics, so thanks for uploading!
This game was amazing. I think it was my favorite out of the three. Yeah it was really easy but it was so much fun. And I loved the jungle setting.
Lol. no freaking way.
Rise of the Tomb shat all over Shadow.
@@dcmastermindfirst9418 everyone's got their opinion buddy.
Great review, seems like they've made some of the changes I'd hoped for, so I might pick this up on release now. Nice to know it runs better than RotTR even though the visuals seemingly look very good.
I'm currently 2 hrs into your live stream of TRII (1997) but have now watched some of your other videos (for TR). It's bizarre as I haven't played the game in years but I am still a massive fan of Lara. Watching these more up to date games makes me wish I could repurchase PlayStation & get back in. The reason I am commenting (aside from nostalgia) is to congratulate you! After seeing a few reviews from different people, yours are BY FAR THE BEST! You are obviously a true Tomb Raider and the way in which you explain, demonstrate etc is excellent! Really TOP! Perhaps it's also your down to earth vibe & calming voice. I genuinely think the supposed 'Big Peeps' could learn from you and then should hire you! Ty for taking me back to a simpler time. I WILL complete the live stream!! Great escape too.... Take care ✌🌟👍
one of the best games ever made, finished it and loved every minute i played it
It wasnt enough gun fights
@@YoungBlaze and that's what people want on Tomb Raider
Tombs. Not call of duty girl.
Rudra Singh I don't mind the lack of gunfights in the first tomb raider I felt lile you were constantly fughting the whole game
Fluffy Unicorn390 this game brought me back to the very first tomb raider on ps1. I prefer the exploration and puzzle solving much more than Just a bunch of gun fights
Tiredofdumbfuks you were fighting like every 3 mins I got kinda of annoying at times
Found you on steam, thank you for the good review. (Subbed)
Great review. I especially love the notion on how this game entry explores Lara's personal development more, as well as adding more genuine tomb puzzles as the centerpiece of the journey. The tomb puzzles are the stand out feature from the old classic TR games to me.
amazing review, you deserve more subscribers man , keep strong👍
Fantastic review. You got a new subscriber!
Great review! Very detailed, and I agree with you on 90% of it.
There were two failings in the game for me. The first was having Lara read all the notes/found items in the game. Having other actors read things in the other games felt more immersive, and Camilla's line delivery was not her best work. No, I love her as Lara, but that part was a dry and thankless task. She didn't put near as much inflection into the readings as she did in the first couple of games, and it showed. Budget cuts, maybe?
The other failing of Shadow, to me, was the ending. The emotional peak of the game was the oil refinery, and then the final ending felt less emotionally satisfying because we saw what happened rather than played through it. We really should have been able to fight Roarke as a sub boss before the main one, and...
They hinted more about Dominguez than they showed. Through bits of conversation, I gather that he and his brother Unuratu's husband were close. Dominguez was recruited by Trinity and turned on them, taking over the organization. He decided that Paititi was in danger of discovery, had a falling out with his brother about it, and his brother ended up dead. Stricken with rage, grief and a sense of making things right, he used Trinity to the ends we saw in the three games.
Did we get any of this in cut scenes? No. Just journal entries and conversations. Dominguez was going to bring his brother back, remake the world, and destroy Trinity. What else was he going to do? We don't know. The story even makes it feel like Dominguez wasn't personally behind the death of Lara's father, so I dunno... the ending felt more sad and anti-climactic than triumphant.
But to pick a nit, after Lara was chased by the guards, Unuratu says that outside clothes and weapons would get the Serpent Guard chasing Lara again, so that's why she can only wear local garb there.
In terms of in-depth reviews on games, I don't think anyone is better than you🙌🙌 Good job
I liked playing the whole game, everything was stunning. My only down side and 1 of my friends said it and I agreed with him was the choice of villain. In my opinion Konstatine should have been the main villain in this rather than Dominquez with brutality on situations as you see in Rise of. Overall a great game
manutdrule91 um konstatine dies in rise so how could he be the villian
I love TR's gun play. Hope the "off feeling" gets patched.
i love that music of the game in behind when you talk.
.
Shadow of the Tomb Raider very awesome game
thanks to EIDOS Montreal/Square/CrystalDynamics to make this game.
2:36 that wasnt how they wanted you to do that part but whatever i did it anyway.
What you needed to do was use the grapple to swing to that ledge
LOL.
I was playing on the hardest difficulty, so only saving by a fireplace.
By that part right there you're so far away from the last save point, making the jumping and climbing 10x intense. I'd never have tried to jump like he did, what a madlad.
I did that even on deadly obsession
@@ingamesniperr I wouldn't even dare to try. I had died just seconds ago by stupidly jumping down on what I thought was a ledge and dying. Almost 1 hour since the last save xD
Well ive got the platinum trophy so idc anymore the game was ok tho
Yeah, he should grapple down and then swing, not just jumping straight from there.
I watched your full history of tomb raider, then finishing it off with this one. You get a sub.
Omg what a great review everybody been dissing the game that I like so much but you gave it a fair share I subbed and forever be loyal to your content
This is easily the best review I've seen, takes a real fan to do it right I guess
Glad you enjoyed it!
I really hope they revamp everything in the next game. The running animations are getting old. Also they should add something more to the gameplay loop. Even the shooting is absolutely horrendous. And im hoping for the return of more mystical enemies instead of humans and fish and jaguars. Here's hoping we get a game that'll overthrow uncharted as a the best treasure hunting game.
Been looking for good game reviews for months now, glad to say thanks to your channel... my search is over :) keep it up
I absolutely love this game!! Looks like it's being overlooked because of Spider-man and RDR2,what is a shame..
But it's only one game I bought this autumn so far.. That speak for itself.
Good review, completely on spot!
The squeezing thru wall, water creek and entering under a branch is just a mechanic to loading next level map while giving u a sense of playing
Those tooltips always annoyed me.
I respect your review great points made. Other reviews weren’t as though.
I just started this game and I'm so excited to see all that it has to offer. Your review is amazing and really prepares me for what's to come. Keep up the great work! PS. I'm a new subscriber now. :-)
Great review! Unfortunately we are going to have to wait even longer for Ray-Tracing; possibly not until October or November because Microsoft has to do a Windows 10 update/patch to implement Ray-Tracing in DX12 API to function
Yup. I knew it wouldn't come out with the RTX cards, as EIDOS Montreal said the setting still needs work before it's patched into the game. But that's also true that the DX12 needs to be updated to allow for it. Still... I feel like in the end, the setting is going to be like any other "Gameworks" setting. Very cool tech, but murders performance.
I m fine with the 1060 hehe
Good review. I started playing the definitive edition recently and for me it is at least a good game. The reboot from 2013 was a bit too much of shooting gallery, rise was a bit better with more exploration here the exploration traversal and puzzles feel a bit more thought through
Have a nice time gaming!
This was way more fun and I'm happy they're finally listening and adding more tombs to explore. My only gripe was it felt way too short. I would've liked at least another 10 hours of gameplay.
Terri Trovato it you take your time and explore It goes by pretty slowly
I absolutely hate how no reviewers are mentioning the fact that you can't 100% stealth past zones anymore. In 2013 and 2015 games you could entirely clear enemy zones without killing, just 100% sneaking. You even got a "stealthy!" XP BONUS for doing so. Now you 100% have to slaughter almost everyone, all the time.
I even remember getting past a zone after about 30 failed attempts to sneak, and then once I got to the objective it just cut to a combat scene anyways and I then had to slaughter all the enemies I just sneaked past.... Such a shame!
Slaughter to prevail Kappa
Looks really good, I hope Spiderman hasn't effected its sales too much
Just stumbled upon your channel for some reason and i have to agree with most people here. Really good review, it's fair and i do agree with the issues you found although i don't have the game yet but i think it "IS" an issue may it be minor or not.good job you got a new subscriber :)
I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed how bad the gunplay is. It's the main reason I'm glad they scaled back combat encounters. When shooting the rifle, I wondered if all the reboot games felt this awkward.
Wtf, how come this low subscribers, gaming videos on this channel are one of the best quality on youtube.
I'm new to this channel, this felt like a well thought out and honest review.
You are very detailed with the reviews. Appreciate it
Excellent review , can't wait to play it
Nice work - legit and objective review!
Nice review! Just a couple more days :)
4:08
- "...there was very little in the way of a hit indicator..."
- Enemy dramatically reels from being shot in the head as his helmet shatters and sparks fly and fine, pink mist sprays out into the air
Yeah. No hit indicator at all, there.
Great review video, thanks for making this and all that your addressed. Put some of my worries to rest but I felt you were being fair and subjective.
Glad you enjoyed it! What were you mostly worried about beforehand?
Edios Montreal taking over as lead from Crystal Dynamics. This time around CD, kind of advised rather than were the hands on.
@@harukaashi yes that worried me as well when i realized that. But thankfully eidos montreal deliveres more tomb raiding than crystal dynamics managed to lol
This review feels more like journalism. Great work.
Loved the review. My own thoughts on this game after playing it:
- More puzzles and tombs with a nice addition of riddles: GREAT
- Can't skip cutscenes nor the beginning: BAD
Should have been possible after reaching the end once.
- Main Game difficulty: Not to hard but oke. More focus on exploring then being difficult: GOOD
(reminds me more of the original tomb raider.)
- Tombs difficulty: pretty challenging: GREAT
- Tension moment: Breath taking: If you love / can handle it: GREAT (Or for some people it might be to intense.)
- Lara action and movements: smooth and good ammount of options for combat: GOOD
- Game setting (areas): normal City, jungle, ruines, ancient hidden cities, under water areas: Nice variety. AWESOME.
I liked that a lot. It felt way more naturel. Not always being in combat is way more realistic then facing an enemy around every corner.
- Skills leveling system: Not sure what to level and how every skills connects BAD. Needs to be given more thought and some reworks.
- Grapphics: I believe them to be overrated a lot. What do I mean: People compare games for it while even considering games good or bad just because of the graphics. I mean what do you play a game for: The graphics or the game it self. In my opinion graphics need to be good (Not supurb) compared to the year the game is created and what is possible during that time.
Graphics for this game: GREAT.
- And one personal issue (got the game form STEAM): I can't save properly. More a technical issue then something that should be part of the game I suppose. Can't save: VERY BAD.
Can continue / but not restart the game from the bginning and oversave excisting progress. (help)
Your review is sooooo good bro i subbed i wish ubisoft give u a review copy of oydessy
Oh I wish. That game is going to be huge if it's anything like Origins. And I'd love to get a TON of playtime in before I write a review. That last one was so big I never had a chance to review it. By the time I beat it, it was redundant to post a review on it.
But just getting Tomb Raider from Square Enix was amazing. First major developer to recognize me as a legitimate reviewer. And they were very cool about it.
The game has breath taking graphics & fun exploring elements. My favorite of the new trilogy.
the more I play these new games the more I wish they'd go back to the old style and only update the graphics
great video, three likes from me
You're great! Just watched your 'history of' video also. Thank you for the nostalgia!
Thanks for the review. I picked it up last night and had to download a patch for it. I think it was v1.03. I haven't played it yet, but I hope your concerns were addressed with the patch.
I like his voice it's so soft
Which platform were you playing on when you recorded this footage ? It looks really good!
This is on the PC platform. The XboxOne X version looks pretty much the identical. In fact, it looks better thanks to the HDR implementation.
My monitor doesn't support HDR :(
Nick930 Awesome, I'm sure both definitely look great. Thanks for answering :)
One of the best review ive seen..good job
Amazing review dude, I just subscribed
I think roftr had a slightly better story, but the setting is what really carries this game to make it the best of the trilogy
Nice review. Thank you!
I gotta say I can’t pick between shadow and rise as my favorite. They have lovable characters and amazing graphics and story. The tombs are amazing and the worlds are HUGE! Even though the games kinda ruin the exploring aspect of the game by making a waypoints a type of feature, I still found myself having to actually search for collectibles!
Saying that this game puts a heavier emphasis on Lara's consequences, when in the first part of the game she causes a tsunami and doesn't give a flying fuck about the deaths she caused or helping the civilians, really, really makes me laugh.
Nice review
WOULD LOVE TO SEE A REVIEW ABOUT THE MOVIE - I KNOW THIS IS VIDEO GAMES, BUT IT'S 100 RELATED TO THIS!!!
Also really good content and reviews. Keep it up and you will have more subscribers and views in no time.
I just found your channel:) and I subbed I like what you put out 😁
dude you are batter than ign
VERY good review.
I hope this look amazing on PS4 pro
great review ..... btw you can turn off the native outfit requirement in options so you can run around with whatever you want.
great review ! I already orderer the game, but i'm not sure i'm gonna play it immediatly, when i hear people talking about gamebreaking bugs, the stupid tips you mentionned and others details. Do you think we can hope a better game after one or more patches ?
Im playing this now.... i have to say.... This game is SO GREAT.
OH MY GOD THESE OUTFITS
Bad?
Me thinks they're bad.
@@alb9022 They're pretty fuckin god awful.
And the dlcs just add to the adventure. Worth buying the season pass
2:37 That dismount is not meant to be done from a jump - she can rappel from the overhang and then swing across. I know because I did that on my first go playing DO and had to do all the fakkin Cenote again!
This game is gorgeous!
I played this game in one sitting,i was hooked on this game like a crack addict, damn i love this game,i wish i could continue like in the first tomb raider reboot with the fast travel. No i dont mean new game plus either.Glad its in there but still it would of been nice, and i played as the angel of darkness lara croft model throughout the game just for laughs.lol
Right genuine question, I suffer from chronic claustrophobia, how long and how many of those “segments” are there?
There are 3 sections in the game at least that incorporate this mechanic. The sequences are roughly 15-30 seconds long, though they dont require anything other than holding forward on the joystick to complete
Nick930 thank you for getting back to me. Great video keep up the good work mate 👍subbed
Mate, 2:36 you got to rappel off the ledge and then swing your self to do a nice fall, that was pretty obvious.
2013 fire was the best
Just subbed, great review. 😃
I think they remind you basic things 90% just in case if you hadn’t played the game in a long time . Example ,if you want to check out another game so you do it but when you finish it and go back to this game you forget most of the controls
dismounts on vertical climbing you use grappling hook to lower your self and swing to safety
I have no idea how you missed this
Love this game :)
Rottr was a breeze on extreme survivor so this would be no different. The difficulty of the new Tomb Raider trilogy falls quite short of the Uncharted series. Keen to pick this up on a good sale though.
The gunplay feels stiff, unlike the smoothness of rise and 2013 gunplay.
Did you try the Performance Mode on Xbox One X, is it stable or the same as in the previous game? Btw, your review is awesome, it's the only one that i've seen from start to end.
I've tried both performance and quality modes on xboxonex. Honestly, i prefer the quality mode, as it feels incredibly stable, more so than Rise did, and it looks gorgeous on a 4k HDR enabled display.
Obviously it's not going to run as smoothly as a PC with an unlocked framerate, but that 30fps lock is very consistent.
@@Nick930 Glad to hear that at least Quality Mode is stable, can't wait to play it.
SAME GOES FOR HITMAN (AGENT 47)
1/11/2020 ~ watched my Godchild play Shadow of the Tomb Raider on his X box 1 & i must say that my 2011 HP with i7-2600 + 16gb + Gtx 1650 Oc low Profile Gpu @ 1080p blows it away "instantly " without inspecting, Very Noticeable ....... Either way this title is a looker even without Raytracying 🎮 find this game in 2020 for under $39.- in early 2020 = Snatch it !! Thanx for Posting 🇵🇹

Picking it up tomorrow 💚💚
Out of all the Reboot tomb raider games which is your favorite tomb raider, rise, or shadow.
@StormChaser by far, although 2013 wasn't bad at all.
Dude, shadow killed me. It was complete bollocks. The story is horrible and bland, badly executed... I don't care so much for sexy outfits but I felt like Rise was just that much stronger when it came to the storyline and design choices.
The game looks really fun and infesting once I finish rise again I’m gonna give it a good go
Great review!
No I think the games fine without spiders
I would like to watch, but also wanna avoid spoilers. so can anybody give me a tl,dr spoilerfree version?
Only listen, don't watch ;)
The sound FX in Rise were so bad. In shadow are better but for example you can hear the rain in the airplane scene but not the engines… and the rain sounds like a metallic roof on a house…
