    I love instant film cameras. They give you that instant gratification and every shot has a real tangible feeling of value. It really makes you slow down and 'think' about the shot you are taking. I use instax for wedding photography as a 3rd camera to provide personal keepsakes of their wedding day. I had clients tell me that they look at the film shots every day on their desks, or on their fridge. Even though their package came with prints, they loved the personification of the instants.

      I used to love using instant film on weddings as well! Something special about that, those tangible prints they get to take home that day. The groom finding them in his jacket pocket at the end of the night. Fun stuff!

    Nice. Been waiting for this one after returning the TL70 because the mini film is just, well, too mini for the price of that camera. I like the Instax Mini Evo for that and it's way cheaper. Square is another story. I currently have the SQ6 and SQ10 for my Square cameras, hated the Diana IS. Would have liked to see more photos from this camera, it's on my short list.

    • @mattdayphoto
      @mattdayphoto  10 месяцев назад +1

      I totally get that. Instax Mini was fun for awhile, but it's definitely the least used instant film out of all that I've shot. The size is tough, but I've been enjoying Square since they released it.

      Pentax was going to introduce a new film SLR. When they got started on the project, they realized that it was simply too expensive to make a new film SLR so they shifted to making a point and shoot with a fix lens. They had to hire retired engineers just to design a film winding mechanism. Chances are its going to hit the market at around $500. I presume that Pentax has realized that given the trend, we're going to run out of working, used film cameras. In Los Angeles, posting for used film cameras are down about 90% over the last decade. Medium format cameras are extremely scarce.

    To anyone thinking about getting this camera, maybe hold off until v2 if they every make it. It has been so wildly hit or miss for me. The color cast is very blue/cold, the auto settings are almost always overexposed, a lot of the time the shutter button just won't fire and I'll have to try 2 or 3 times, the flash doesn't seem to work well with auto modes and is WAY too powerful for anything somewhat close, this thing flares super easily and most of my shots are bad. I wanted to return it but customer service never responded to me. The only good thing about this camera imo is the lens is sharp and it's not a rangefinder. For context, I have a RF70 which I love and get much better results from, despite the viewfinder being hot garbage.

    • @danielrock4144
      @danielrock4144 11 месяцев назад +1

      How is the distortion on the lens? I have the RF70 and I never liked how bad the barrel distortion is at wider apertures

    • @shuddercount6278
      @shuddercount6278 11 месяцев назад

      @@danielrock4144 not much at all, if anything looks almost slightly pincushioned on a few shots. I can't emphasize enough how few shots come out correct on the TL70+, it's like a 50-70% failure rate with auto settings. Manual with my lightmeter works better but the color cast and flaring can ruin even those. I really love my RF70 but the rangefinder is atrocious and f5.6 is basically unusable. If they made a v2 that fixed those problems it would be my one and only instant camera. Honestly my SQ6 looks better than the TL70+

    • @michaelbell75
      @michaelbell75 11 месяцев назад +12

      Instax Square film is medium format, so is the Mini actually. You dont need f/2.8 You get plenty shallow DOF at f/5.6 and the film is ISO 800, so you dont need that much light. Besides, there isn't an ND filter powerful enough to allow you to shoot this thing at f/2.8

    Still waiting on Fuji or Impossible to make a decent manual rangefinder camera for their widely popular instant films. Any day now...

    • @michaelbell75
      @michaelbell75 10 месяцев назад

      Fuji makes the vast majority of their money off the mini cameras. The Mini Evo is their best selling camera ever. They have even moved away from more manual control cameras to fully auto. It’s clear their sales indicate people have little to no interest in fully manual Instax cameras, much less a RF. I’d just be happy with a new Wide camera. Only been 9 years now…

    • @Ruylopez778
      @Ruylopez778 10 месяцев назад

      @@michaelbell75 Yeah, they're focused on whatever junk makes money. It's just maddening because how hard would it be to adapt an existing MF RF design into an instax back? Or even an instax back for existing OOP Fuji cameras.
      X series was all about profiting off of a new lens system, and incremental updates and the disposables and instax is cashing in on trends. I can't stand the way Fuji behave. At least Impossible have an excuse with their limited resources.

    Bought this and tested mine for a couple shots (2 packs). I'll say it's in the meh category of purchase for me, the lens doesn't exactly help with anything, as instax itself is pretty much limited in terms of quality (color reproduction, dynamic range, etc). The body build itself is nothing to write home about (very plasticky), the knob wheel doesn't feel great (wiggle quite a bit). On the positive side, the viewfinder is ok and quite bright. The close up lens does help to literally close up, but now you only have 20-35cm of focus distance. anything out of those range would be out of focus.
    From my tests, several pictures resulted in partial development (half part not developed, jury still out whether due to film or really due to cam). Several has some weird spot (suspect uneven development, still can't say whether it's the film or cam). Light meter is a hit/miss on several scenes where it's not evenly lit.
    But really, if you're looking solely because you like instant films, then just stick with the usual offerings like Fuji Evo and such. If you want it because of TLR, then just buy an old TLR. $699 in my opinion is simply not justifiable looking at this level of quality other than for flexing purposes.
