Then what happened to the people of the coastal areas you mentioned, the ones that traded in imported beads, salt, chank and shark tooth?! Were these people replaced by the hill folk that then developed an overseas trade, in SL and the rest of the world?
Rohini symbolism is diverse, the fish appears a minor entity in the cluster of varied symbols associated with her. As an ancient (Vedic) goddess, consort of Chandra, the common tradition throughout the subcontinent then, can we just disassociate the Lunar (Chandra) kshatriyas as a fictional and simply accept the Chandra/Rohini concept as nonfiction!? Is it a coincidence that the Pandu/Pandya/Panyan dynasty is classified as Chandravanshi kshatriyas with their double fish emblem ?
Do the dynastic emblems of the region like the lion, tiger, wheel, chank, fish, sun and moon require extensive interpretation for adoption? Could these emporiums of economic and socio-cultural activity and the environment with it's bounty influence the culture and ideology? What about the people that engage in this sphere of activity?

For as long as the universe lasted, there is a " history" whether we know it or not..
Buddha's can swipe through this past in an instant, for many eons backwards.
The journey of past thought patterns of each being as well as their respective body formations in the past, for many eons are also no mistry to the Buddhas.
Archeology reestablish history through evidence of " matter" but only those with highly advanced spiritual knowledge gained through meditative absorption powers can tell of the history of the " minds" of those who lived in the past.
Normal human mind is full of impurities like hate, anger, jealousy, sorrow, ego, greed, desire, ignorance.
Buddhist records are of the journies of the rare few human beings who exalted such petty states of mind and instead experienced pure mental states like self love, compassion, humility, forbearance, joy, calmness, equanimity and wisdom..
This is why true accounts of such people in the recent history ( within the last 3000 years at most) are soo important , for any one who wants to turn a new leaf , as well as for those who may get worldweary and genuinely seeks guidance of those who have trodden the path of spirituality..
That's why great historical records such as the Tripitaka , Mahawamsa and other sinhala chronicles should be Preserved (unalterd, not misrepresented, not distorted, sealed from any distortions) , protected and gifted to future generations.
The good monks of the past hundreds of years PRESERVED this WORLD HERITAGE . It's our DUTY to do as well.. for the benefit of any one in the world who wants recorded evidence of the people and life stories with their spiritual battles, of the past monks and laity ( rulers, ministers, soldiers, advisors, traders, farmers, accountants, women, children and householders both rich and poor, executioners, bandits, prostitutes.... ) So that humanity is preserved for the world for another few hundreds of years
Any other stories, legends and chronicles are largely for the entertainment of this fickle mind
