Mandarin retreat will be held in the UK, here's a link www.mandarinretreat.com/upcoming-trips you can register your interest and your preferred location and activities etc. I would probably recommend first starting with something you can understand a bit more of and then gradually work your way up to TV shows. I think if there's english subtitles it can be really easy to just ignore the Chinese in which case it won't be too helpful. Hope that helps!

Being a beginner knowing about 300 words with little speaking ability. I find that I can only immerse in Chinese movies/shows if I use English subtitles, even then I’m not sure how much this benefits me. Do you have any recommendations for how I should be immersing? (Sub or no sub) etc?
I'm not sure immersing with english subtitles would have much benefit. I would first focus on increasing your vocabulary and trying to work with content that you can understand at least 80% of in chinese. Hope that helps!

I'm not Hart, but I recommend pacing yourself. We can only learn around 8 new words a day before our brains start forgetting - cramming tends to hinder learning. Learning 8 words and repeating them with the next day's set is what Anki sets out to do. 3 hours seems a bit much...personally, I rarely go over half an hour. If you feel underchallenged, I'd say to try doing some immersion learning as he says, engaging with content at your level of understanding.

In all honesty, no I can't really write characters very well, but I can read pretty well. So I think it's your own choice but I would recommend prioritising speaking over handwriting

Since your mandarin improved at a rate faster than anyone I've ever met, I would expect this 前所未有-ness to be reflected in your study techniques. But when you reveal your methods, I always feel a little bit underwhelmed >.< for example, from what I've seen, you tend to immerse in content that only has hard subtitles, implying that you don't use a popup dictionary to do lookups. As far as I know, this is far less efficient and will result in far less learning than if you were able to quickly lookup new words using a tool like yomitan. Some questions I have for you are: - What do you do when you encounter a word you don't recognize? - Do you think getting immediate word translations from a popup dictionary might actually hinder the learning process? (maybe by taking some burden to remember/predict the meaning of words off of your brain) It could be that if I took all the time I spend making my Chinese workflow more efficient and spent it actually acquiring the language, I could make progress as fast as you do xD I'm sorry if this comment sounds rude or passive aggressive >.< I don't mean it that way ~
I don't really encounter that many words I don't recognise tbh and I can usually guess from context if I do. I don't really like looking stuff up in the dictionary, but I occasionally do, most of the time I just ask my gf as having it explained in chinese is often a lot better than just seeing the english, but that isn't to say dictionaries are bad that's just my preference. Yeah I would recommend not obsessing over your workflow, I think a good sentence mining setup + input + output is good recipe for success. Don't worry I know you're not being passive aggressive haha. What level did you understand 家有儿女? I’m around HSK3 but I cannot understand anything
That's quite normal, I would say you probably want to be at least HSK 4 or 5
