Wonder if Brazil would look to replace US ethanol to Canada. Brazil is the 2nd largest producer of Ethanol in the world. (from sugar cane). About 25% of ethanol in Brazil is from corn.
The US buys about 80% of the potash you use from Canada. We may slap an additional export tax on top of Trump's tariffs as part of our retaliatiatory moves.
Not so much Phosphorus. But the giant deposits of Potash under Saskatchewan are a huge percentage of the planet's supply. 80 percent of America's Potash comes from Canada.
Most of us on fixed income have switched to pork or chicken rather than beef. Other than the occasional hamburger here and there, we just can't afford 8 dollar a pound stew meat, which is the same price as lower grades of steak. Which is ironic, we used to raise cattle, but of course never got the same price for that as the middleman, much less the grocers.
Ethanol exports to Canada exist only due to their LCFS (low carbon fuel standard) which includes carbon from transport in the calculation. They can't avoid US ethanol unless they re willing to forgo virtual signaling, which happens to be Trudeau's favorite thing to do
@@keithosmond5730 absolutely could produce your own, but not overnight. And the LCFS won't allow you to source any quantity elsewhere due to the carbon from transport. They are your rules.
Considering Canada is a 100 Billion Dollar deficit welfare country. And the fact Trevor is on his way out as PM. Things will become better with Canada next year.
Not sure what you're trying to say here. Yes, we (Canada) sell you more than we buy. However, we *are* your biggest customer. And we buy a lot more American products per capita than Americans buy Canadian goods. Well, we have up to now; I'm already putting anything with Made in the USA back on the shelf. And many others are doing the same. That will seriously ramp up once the tariffs are in place. Ironically, Trump's tariffs have boosted Trudeau's popularity. Poilievre is a Trump mini-me who will give the US whatever it wants - which rubs most Canadians the wrong way. For the first time in over a year, Trudeau is polling as well as Poilievre - at least on the issue of who would be best to handle Trump. "deficit welfare country"?? We have the best balance sheet of any G7 nation. Not sure what the respective per capita deficits are currently (I may have to look into that), but I did the math in 2019 and every single American went in the hole $7 (Cdn) for every $1 (Cdn) of deficit here under Trump. And now he's promising more tax cuts for the rich, without any plan to cover the revenue loss (except maybe via these tariffs that will come out of *your* pockets). You want things to get better with Canada? Maybe try actually sticking to the terms of the USMCA - which Trump proclaimed the best trade agreement in the world when he signed it, and which these tariffs obliterates. Meanwhile, we will take retaliatory actions that will cost Americans a lot. 60% of your crude oil comes from us. 80% of potash. 50% of aluminum. A good chunk of the lumber used in contruction. And so on. These are things you cannot quickly replace. Expect us to slap *export taxes* on them - or even a ban on exporting them to the US (that would be my personal preference). And we can leave a lot of northern states to freeze in the dark this winter by banning the sale of electricity. Trump has declared economic war on my country. We are trying the "speak softly" approach for now, but we are also polishing the big stick and choosing where to strike our blows, if Trump insists on being a bully.

One thing I'm surprised you didn't mention re Canada and tariffs (unless I missed it): We sell you about 80% of the potash farmers use. China is stopping rare minerals coming into America. This will make it hard to build EV's. To many EV will make a draw on our electric grid that we simply can not support at all.
I was curious when you spoke about imported beef. From the information that I saw what were importing mostly is ground beef. I would consider ground beef to be at the bottom of the value that can be produced from beef. If ground beef is what is being imported and that is a segment of the market I’m not sure that that’s really somewhere you want to cut imports. You’re going to make the poor people scream if you increase the price of ground beef. They better be careful about doing things in the beef industry that are counterproductive to the consumer. They’re just gonna trade down.
From what little I understand: Grass Fed Mexican lean cattle come into the U.S. They produce very lean ground beef which is ideal to mix with fat from American cattle. "Cuts, Grinds & Trimmings".

What about fertilizer? Correct me if I'm wrong but we get over 80% of our potash from Canada?
That is correct. And 60 percent of America's imported oil. So Americans might not like paying 7 bucks a gallon for gas.
