The Honda gold wing is actually the best motorcycle that was manufactured in the history of motorcycle manufacturing. You won't find a better bike period, I actually had argued with an idiot that said Harleys are better, I told him the Harleys are great boat anchors.
Nice comparison video. I decided on the Randakk's kit for my '85 GL1200. We could've been neighbors. I'm from Grandview. I left there in 1984 for my job. Live near Louisville, KY now.
First... you are completely correct about the poor quality in the 'aftermarket' kits. I've been there.... done that.... also! Plus it's a big plus to find someone on the internet that knows the difference between a 'needle jet' and a 'jet needle' ! You obviously have turned a wrench and are knowledgeable about a service manual nomenclature! Thumbs up!
excellent video. there are countless people on the web yammering about cheap aftermarket kits, but this video shows exactly what IS bad about them. good job.
I went through this mess back in the mid-1990's with a '78 GL 1000, except I had to order all the kits and such from Honda for an obscene amount of money.😝 Unfortunately, the stock Keihin carbs had too much internal scale and crud to ever make them usable, and I went through them probably 3 or 4 times before I gave up and welded up my own manifold to accept a brand new Weber 32/36 DGEV progressive 2 bbl. with automatic choke. Best thing that ever happened to this bike, and after a bit of jetting work, it got right around 45 mpg. and idled perfectly! Not quite as much top end power as the 4 individual carbs, but perfect for 99.9% of the riding I'd ever be doing. The Weber and materials for the manifold cost probably 1/3 of the carb kits, and is easy to service, and maintained perfect tuning after the initial jetting work!😄
@danw1955, my head was spinning as Raymore removed and sort the unbelievable number of carb parts. Honda know for it's engineering and service ability of their early bikes, one would think they just simplify the intake system. Something along the lines that you did. It makes far better sense.
I remember doing the carbs on my '83 GL1100 .. The kit to do the entire job cost me about $350.. I got it from Randakk. I'm not sure if it was worth the money, but Randakk put together a complete and accurate carb kit ..
Well, complete and accurate this kit is not. I used some of the pieces but not very many. There are some quality kits out there but you get what you pay for. Thank you for watching.
Umm...what about the randakks kit? I need one they are out of stock with who know when it will be available...expensive but...do you suggest a kit that you found to be the next best thing? Thanks for your time!
@@mitchellcox5461 Randakk's kit is expensive, but, it will last as well. Many of the cheapo ones do not last past 1 season of riding and you are back to rebuild it again. Such has been my experience's.
80/81 pilot jet is pressed in. 82/83 they are removable. Heck I subscribed and went to your page to find this video and couldn't find it.... What ????? Ok history it is........
Great content Bro, i've been looking for such content on old bikes and since i landed on the series , i definitely downloaded all of them😊 i've been working on a 1997 yamaha 250cc scooter and the content is much educative coz the workings are the same, sad thing with the old model bikes is rare or too expensive spare parts but they are reliable. Am enjoying👍👍
Probably wont see this but i just came into my own gl1100 with a single carb conversion. I have the old carb assembly but what should i look for to ensure itll run once i get the original back on? Any help would be appreciated ive been wanting one of these forever and i want to rebuild it pristine
Replace most all rubber components. I usually use the jetting that was in the carbs since it seems to work better than the jets from most aftermarket kits. Thank you for watching.
Could you really mean the K&N carb kit? For the most part I've found their parts to be much closer to Honda than the cheap Chinese crap.... hey.. that's a good shortcut for describing parts that don't fit... CCC parts.... Cheap Chinese Crap!
Why buy crap when you know most of it will not be any good, after you have brought 2 or 3 cheap sets and wasted your time and money you could have got the right one and finished

Good to hear from you. Thank you for watching.
excellent video. there are countless people on the web yammering about cheap aftermarket kits, but this video shows exactly what IS bad about them. good job.
You are right. The huge problem is the fact that the parts do not even fit let alone work right. Thanks for watching.

My gl1100 has a empi vw beetle single carb conversion, no more messing with 4 carbs and all this hassle.
Did you need to adjust the jetting? Thank you for watching.

Thanks for the thorough video! This is good information.
I am sure you are fully aware of the Randakk's carb kit.
Excited to see more of the Goldwing!
Thanks for the info! II knew it was too good to be true.... and it is.

You gotta lover that early eighties emissions stuff. Thank you for watching.

Would like to know more about this ultra sonic cleaner?
This is PRENEX Stainless steel 30 liter model. I bought it straight off Ebay.
The eBay nightmare continues. Good lesson.
Thank you for watching.
What kit did you get? Is the L&N rebuild kit with the jets a good kit?
Not sure on the brand, I almost always reuse the OEM jets after cleaning them. Try Randakks.com for better quality carb kits. Thank you for watching.

Needle jet and jet needle do wear I'm just saying I've seen them in the past with magnifying lens
Thank you for watching.
looks like they packaged the wrong floats?
Yes sir and some other items as well. thank you for watching.
Could you send me the link where to buy these
Just do a search on Ebay and you will find it.
Why would you buy this kit when clearly more than 1/2 the products are complete junk?
IN my kit RUBBER GASKETS EXPANDED DUE TO GASOLINE AND WHEN I had to remove the float chamber, it was impossible to insert this gasket anymore ...
Yep that happens. I think it is worse now do to Ethanol in fuels. Thank you for watching.
Good to know!
Thank you for watching
Gooood
REAL Gooood. Thank you for watching.
Well you still got your money’s worth.
Just Barely.

Yes that is the purpose of the video. Thank you for watching.
Switch to a single carb
Lol😂😂😂😂😂
I tried that. I still have yet to finish that project. Thank you for watching.
