The absolute "Go to" video, in my opinion, for the F-16 start up. Thank you, Bogey Dope, for taking the time to create this video and for posting it here on YT.
I was literally looking at your older Startup guide since I was away from DCS for 2+months (due to covid) and was wondering if there were any changes to the process ... and here you are making yet another extremely helpful video! love your channel , keep them coming ;)
glad you redid it because of one main thing i know of: your early one had the l16 instead of whatever those letters are and i was extremely confused why i couldnt get mine to say that lmao, otherwise, i still need this because im playing very inconsistently as of now. good going :)
A few things... some paltry, others genuine questions. First, one thing I usually do, just to have a little immersion, is I turn on the aux radio to request startup from ATC before going Start2. I like it, keeps the virtual ATC happy. Otherwise, I do have a few questions. So, after you turn MIDS on, I noticed you didn't go to the DLNK page. When I go there, the GPS TIME is set to off and the SYNC is COARSE. When I turn the GPS TIME on (1 on the ICP), the SYNC will go to FINE, which I believe is better than COARSE (isn't it?). The other thing that I can't figure out is the channels sub-page for DLNK. Start in the air, the channels are set (to 001 or whatever). On a cold start, they are set to 000 (and cannot be changed). If I am correct, that means that your wingman (wingmen) and contributors are not linked to your jet and you have to depend on 3rd party (AWACS) information to even see them on the HSD. Am I missing something? Does ED have more to fix (being able to edit the channels)? Or is there some procedure that I need to do that I am not? Thanks for everything. Great video. I was amazed at how close your quick startup procedure was to mine. A few things in different orders, but yours is better and so I'm adopting it. Thanks again.
Yeah I noticed the same thing. Since there are no notes about it in the changelog, I am unsure if that is intended. My assumption is things will continue to change with the Viper since it is still in "early access", which is why making these videos is like hitting a moving target. For now, this is the new procedure, and I have not found that GPS time being on or off has effected my Datalink or anything else yet. So as of now, I'm leaving it alone.
When you use the autostart and it begins the full INS alignment you can just turn it off and back on to stored to speed up the process. Since that is the last thing in the autostart you won't be missing anything
Hmm... every time I've turned INS alignment off after it's started, it forces me to do a full alignment. I've accidentally clicked it into "Norm" a few times, and when I said, "Oops" and turned it off and back to SH, . . . . it's stuck and I'm forced to do a full alignment. I'll have to try this again and see if they changed that behavior.
@@BogeyDope turn it off. Wait a few seconds. Turn it back on. As long as you haven't moved from parked it'll work. Worse case scenario inflight alignment on your way lol
It is a custom one I made myself, just for this video. I wanted to have stuff happening on the line to make it look more "alive" than my older start video. It's nothing cool, just a bunch of Jets taking off and a couple fly by in the beginning and that's it. The jets fly off into nowhere.
So, random question for you but can you comment on some updated behavior for the F-16? Right now, when using mavericks in PRE with TGP SOI and AUTO, target designating with TMS Forward will cause the SOI to change to WPN during the handoff. This seems wrong. The devs made it so doing TMS Forward with FCR SOI would change SOI, but it seems to have copied over to the TGP as well. Is this expected behavior? Great video as always!
I'm not sure. I haven't run Mavericks in a bit. I'll have to test this. However, TMS right should do that. I'm not sure if TMS up would do the same in real life. My assumption is no, but I don't know for sure.
TMS forward point tracks and initiates the handoff of TGP when set to auto. Always TMS forward for mavericks. I do however see that the weapon screen is selected after the update no matter auto or Man selected on TGP. Not sure if that is correct behavior.
Hey question, I’m doing everything as followed but when I get to the GPS SYSTEM part, my side stays on SYSTEM. No GPS pops up or sometimes it flashes really quickly. Is it an issue with what I’m doing that would cause that or is it something else? Thanks
For a full alignment, you will need to enter jet coordinates. For "Stored Heading" alignment, you don't need coordinates (This is why I use Stored HDG in this video). It's using the stored coordinates from the last shutdown (In this case, it's a sim and just assumed the jet has not moved since it was last shut down). GPS on/off was the work around prior to the latest update, and, as far as I can tell, not needed anymore. As of this version of DCS, I have not needed to touch GPS time on/off. From my experience thus far, it wont hurt to do it, but I haven't seen any difference in doing it or not doing it. This could change in the future, I don't know. As of now, however.... no.
so i followed the startup step by step (thank you for making it so easy) but for some reason it wont let me do the alignment for my HMS. I'm not to sure if I'm missing something or not but whenever i try to select course majority of the time it wont let me, but it has let me select it a few times for some reason. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated
