  • REAL MARRIAGE IS A CRITICAL SYSTEM, SAYS ROCKET SCIENTIST
    Dear marriage supporter,
Real marriage is part of a complex social system, which we tweak at our peril. That’s the view of a Professor at Bristol University, Stuart Burgess, a leading academic and complex systems engineer. Prof Burgess stands openly and firmly in support of man-woman marriage. You can watch our discussion here:
In our conversation, Prof Burgess, an actual ‘rocket scientist’, compares marriage to the intricate engineering of spacecraft. Just as tampering with a spacecraft’s delicate systems can lead to failure, redefining marriage without understanding its complexity can lead to societal breakdown. He asserts that marriage is not merely a personal choice but a “complex, fine-tuned delicate system” that plays a critical role in the stability of society.
Prof Burgess emphasises that marriage serves as a “real restraint on human behaviour.” He explains that the commitment to lifelong union discourages impulsive decisions driven by fleeting desires. He notes that “people who save themselves for marriage and believe in lifelong union” are more likely to have a “fulfilling and satisfying” relationship.
Our discussion also addresses the significant shift in societal attitudes towards marriage and relationships. Prof Burgess laments that the default for sex before marriage has shifted from no to yes.
Interestingly, Prof Burgess reveals that many of his academic colleagues quietly support his views on marriage, but are hesitant to express their beliefs openly due to fear of backlash. This highlights the importance of courage and visibility in defending traditional values in today’s society.
At C4M, we know the value of real marriage to society and can see all too well the consequences of having redefined it to include same-sex couples and no-fault divorce. We believe real marriage will experience a renaissance. Our aim is to bring this about sooner rather than later, and to stand against the social decay in the meantime.
