  • James Coyne is the oldest resident of Inishbofin. A much loved character and a face that many visitors to the island will recognise. A great man, a patriarchal figure with a knowledge of the island that can’t be equalled. It was a privilege to chat and film him as he went about his daily work. We hope you enjoy viewing as much as we enjoyed filming!

James Coyne what a man, we must be distant relatives, There is a great beauty about the place yet it can be a very lonely sad place to live in, depending on what is happening in your life

The fact that they even locked down a place like inishbofin really shows how ridiculous the whole thing is

Not at all. Maybe you do not understand in your shouty mood that what lockdown in Inishbofin means is that the island itself is in isolation so no one from outside the island can come there? A highly infectious disease in such a context and with so many old folk would be a disaster

That was great hearing from James and what he thought of the whole response to the situation of exposure to Covid-19. Lovely day you had there in the bog, dog, helper and brick wall. Cheers!

Just lit my turf fire on a different Irish island and resonate with this film. We were all locked down. I am immune deficient and cannot take the vaccine so I remain safe in peaceful isolation. Lockdown has saved countless innocent lives here and on all the islands.
