I have tried for over 30 years to describe this song to people. I remember hearing this song as a child (over 45 years ago) and could only remember the cadence, not the word because I could never under what they were saying. Three years ago, after much research, I found a version by the Poole Brothers. ........... may it all, my power engage......Thank you, young man. yours is a true gift!
I used to lead this in devotion 2nd Sundays. My grandfather is 92 years old and sick. With him trying to sing it with me makes my soul smile as I know he's in God's hands. Thank you my brother. Never stop
Even after 35 years in the ministry & 20 years of pastoring even during the COVID 19 Pandemic / Racism in this world / wars against humanity, " A Charge To Keep, I Have " yet challenges me of the purpose of preaching the Gospel is to : "Win The Lost , to Christ ; Build The Church, on Christ ; Send The Disciple, for Christ " God Bless this young gospel maestro. Prophet Wilson/ Founding Pastor Hosanna Is Savior / H.I.S. House - Established : 2000
I am baptist , but my mother is not religious , I have been recently exploring my religion and our music , keep singing these songs , this is our culture as FBA and need to be preserved
This reminds me of the deacons leading devotion before we came up with praise teams! I truly miss these old hymns. You are truly a blessing to my soul. Please make a cd so I can buy it for my car! Be blessed in all you say and do!!
A song I remember from my youth....I enjoy great gospel music of today. But there is something my soul craves, needs, and is fulfilled by such soul stirring songs such as this. Young man, you truly ministered to me.
this was when church was real. those deacons led devotion. no such thing as a praise team. the eldersstarted service and you knew you were in the house of the Lord. thank God for these hymns. this generation will never know.
You have blessed my soul! You took me back to the days when I was a little girl listening to the deacons and my great aunt Pearl singing this hymn. God bless you, young man!
lol when I was a little girl I grew up in the baptist church during devotion service we sang this song I use to say ray Charles 2016 we sang this at my uncles funeral R.I.P. Deacon charlie Booze Jr.
I Love this song, My uncle just passed away, he was 90 years old and he sung this song every Sunday morning, and all the children knew it thanks to him. You definitely would have made him proud!
This was our benediction as a kid! First Baptist Southmont Lexington NC! Reverend John G. Gaston and First Lady Carrie Gaston! Them and most all of our deacons have passed on…this one hit different😇🥺
boy if you don't sing this song!!! LORD how i miss the beautiful church services we used to have during the 70's and the 80's. i often looked forward to devotion just so i could hear the elders strike out with this and other familiar hymns. and when somebody from the congregation would all of a sudden holla, "Well, if you talkin' bout JESUS, he's a friend of mine..." yeeees, LORD. i just love it. i love it.
Mother Dupree, was preaching and I heard her say. "A Charge To Keep I Have" this stayed with me. So as I searched scripture's about the (CHARGE) I come across many songs. About the charge. Your singing sir just resonated in my spirit. So after prayer, this is my anthem for my soul. Thank you my brother.
This was my grandfather's fav. hymn and now is my own as well. Thanks for this "young brother." This is said with the greatest respect. If we men of faith would vow to stand on the words of this hymn and the Gospel message of 1Cor. 15, we could turn the world upside down and end much of this madness we see going on in our world today. Again, thanks for the post my "brother."
I grew up in the 1950's hearing these common meter songs in Rectortown, VA, at the church where my paternal grandmother grew up and in Youngstown, Ohio at the church where my mother was raised. I really miss this!!!! i also heard it at a church where I preached a revival in Chicago. The "traditional" hymn book version was sung at my church when I was installed as pastor. It lacked the "luster" and "fervor". However, I reflected on how I heard it in the way that drew me to the Lord.
Omg loved it! Had not heard this song in forever, until the preacher sang it at my aunt's funeral today..it brought back so many memories..your rendition is wonderful! Thank you!
Yes, yes yes Paradise Baptist Church back in the day, I remember Dr. AJ, Iverson used to sing along with Deacon Ed Brown. Precious memories how they linger how they ever flood mine, soul.
What's wrong with the "Old Baptist Way"? I've been in a Baptist Church all my days and I love, love, love those Doctor Watts sounding songs of old. Ushered the Spirit of the LORD right on in... As did you, right here, right now!
My,my,my, yes Lord. I love it,it's def Baptist style. You sound like those old deacons in my church I loved to hear as a child. I feel the holy spirit moving. Thank you, thank you. I hope you are still letting God use you.
This is wonderful to hear, Baptist way is the way for me..(but we all believe in the same three.. We believe in Jesus. God and the Holy Spirit),,,This young man has got rhythm in his soul..So good to see the young people believing and singing the Gospel.
I know I have seen this before but I had to come back was watching another good ole church song " You Better Run" by Dr. C. J. Johnson and saw to the side A Charge to Keep I Have. I Remembered you sang it and had to watch again!!!!!!!
This is my granny and I favorite hymn. I remember you had an original video of this song. Ive been coming to your page to listen to you sing this hymn for the past 7 years. It is so comforting to me in my lowest moments. Thank You So Much!
My father and mother loved this style of this song. Yours is the the best I think I've heard. And you're so young. Superior!!! May the Lord bless you with your singing. May you continue to touch people with your gift.
One of the greatest hymns I've ever heard. He sings the long version which I love. Marion Williams sings this in Fried Green Tomatoes...and it is phenomenal, but she only sings a very short version. I wish hers would go on like this one he is singing.
The pastor that raised me, Dr. A. Charles Bowie, from East Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Cleveland, used to raise this and we as kids swore he was saying "A Chaaaarles..." We were like, "Dag, Pastor got his own song and everything." LOL You took me back with this. Keep singing those songs, lil' brutha. We don't hear that enough!
I just loooove you Hasan!! I swear, when my day comes to get married I really want you to sing at my wedding... U are soooo very talented!! Keep up the good work!!
I LOVE it, you betta Sang it! I thought they said hey Charles, too lmbo!but it reminds me so much of my grandfather! he use sang this a his devotional song every Sunday at his church...RIHP Decon Algie Key!
