Used to play up there as a kid I still live in fegg hayes to and walk past it everyday with my dog. They also did the loyds banking with the black horse advert up there in 2018 I think
Excellent video, excellent commentary, excellently paced. Best on RUclips of this style of video, iv always wondered what was at Draycott Cross Colliery. Thanks for the video
Shame to see the place falling to bits. After it closed as a colliery in 1976, it was a great mining museum. I went on one of the tours down the 700ft pit when I was a kid, down in one of the cages with the brickwork rushing by and our ears popping, wearing a helmet with a light and carrying a self-rescuer. Amazing to think you could do that. One of the older mine shafts there was 2000ft deep.
Great video mate. It's really sad to see how it has been left to rot. I hope someday the funds become available to restore the colliery or at least part of it for people to view and learn more about our history.
Coming from a mining and quarrying family and having spent 45 years in transport and engineering I would advise anyone to be extremely careful in and nesr these redundant industrial sites. There are many hidden dangers. I followed in the footsteps of most of my relatives in South Wales , North staffordshire and Lancashire and Yorkshire in what are commonly seen as hazardous industries and occupations. I was lucky. I made it to retirement. Others were not so lucky!
Should be preserved. Went down the mine when it was a museum think it was about 700ft in those small cages shown at the start. At the very least those wonderful winding engines and cable drum should be saved.
@@jdavis460 I agree must be something planned for it at some point as they got an injunction out on me for this video saying I could not return in the future but only time will tell I suppose
It’s hard to believe how clean the engine houses were at pits, honestly you could eat ya bait off the floor in those places. Wouldn’t think it to look at that place now, what a shame, needs saving especially that steam powered winder.
Brings back some memories, I remember when the visitor centre was open, think it was about 19 86 ish they did trips down the mine. I've even still got the sticker of proof. Great video mate 👍
About 1 minute into this video shows the shop and the head lamp charging stations you visited, its such a shame how it looks now. ruclips.net/video/3jWhGk20UbU/видео.html

@@davidfinney-gm3ij I’m really not sure if I’m honest but I ended up with an injunction against me to stop me visiting again so the land owners really don’t like anyone on there

I hope they can get the funds to preserve this pit if it's still there as it was a great part of mining history of the area .Good video man
There is a video of the steam engine shown at 25.25 on Chatterley Whitfield youtube channel it looks brand new .Hesketh Winder with Sound its called

Excellent work Brian love these old buildings 👍
They used to show people how mines worked back in the day I believe and that's what the drift mock up was .

Wonder if the shafts have been capped.
Yes I do believe it has been
The Hesketh isn’t capped still open and full of water
I'm sure you're trying to give me a heart attack. Stomach in my mouth but great walk around. Thanks x
Very interesting, thank you.
Thank you mate
Shame you couldn't have had a tour guide to explain what all the rooms and machines were for lol
Good video though mate
I lived in Biddulph as a kid and my Dad was a minor there.
I worked at Biddulph Colliery, [or Black Bull, as it was known]for a few months in the 70s, doing my shotfirer training
Child labour was banned years ago.
