Announcing the Chicago Shakeout run tomorrow (10/3) on Instagram: instagram.com/floberg.runs/ - spoiler: It's at 9:30am on Saturday in Grant Park - details in the video!!
Only about 6 minute in right now, but I have to say everything you have talked about so far perfectly embodies my favorite quote: "The greater danger lies not in setting our aims to high and falling short, but in setting our aims too low and achieving our mark." I'd always rather miss my "goal" knowing I gave it my all than achieve an arbitrary time I set at the beginning of my training but feel like I could have done better. Good luck this week, rooting for you!
I ran a sub 2:40 last year in Chicago. Work your way to the front of the corral if you can. I took a late pre-race bathroom break and spent the first mile running laterally. I lost about 30 seconds and exerted myself unnecessarily. That's my unsolicited advice. Can't wait to see what you do!
You’re going to crush this marathon! I’ll be running the cape cod marathon the same day gunning for sub 4hrs! Stealing the mantra “you have the fitness”
I discovered this channel with your video about your history in the marathon and how you managed to go from 3:58 to 2:48 From then on I became a fan of your videos (I think I watched absolutely all of them) and every time a new one comes out I watch it almost instantly because they have given me great motivation. And I hope that great motivation you have given me will come back to you on Sunday when you fly through the streets of Chicago. Let's go Eric!
Best of luck. Your training says you will beat your goal. You are young man and you still have got next 8 years to reach your best. Might see you on Sunday!
Love the approach and attitude. I'm going with a similar plan. Racing like I'm playing with house money and can't pass up a chance to push it with the weather forecast and stacking this from my Boston training block. I have enough 'safe' marathon finish times but I'm running out of motivation to keep dedicating so much of my time to training for these faster sub 3 hour times so this may be my last shot to do something big.
Amazing build and I know you will crush it! Have been following you since the Sub3 attempts and just broke the magic 3 hours myself this Sunday and nothing beats that blast of emotions !! 2:58:47 BABY!
your plan makes sense… you won’t regret pushing yourself if that’s the plan going out. I am 49 and just run 2:48 in berlin, big PR, off back of 1:19 PR half - i don’t think i could have done better that day; your recent half is 1:17 and i can well see in the low 2:40s - i wish you the best of strength and resolve to get you there
You have been putting in the dang work to change the potential goal down to 2:40. If you think you can, you have a whole community that will be rooting for you!
Kill it my man. Been following you since the start of this series and excitingly caught up with your prior attempts too. Fortune favours the brave, but you've put in the hard work to more than deserve sub-2:40. Enjoy the occasion.
This Chicago Marathon will be my first marathon, so your videos have been super helpful and inspirational! I'm so nervous, but these videos have gotten me excited to bring out the athlete in myself again, so thank you for that! Good luck and maybe I'll see you on the course!
Thank you for sharing your story, you have inspired me to chase sub 3 marathon, you are really motivating. I think your plan is a "goog call", having your fitness I would do the same. I am really rooting for you (BTW I'm from Poland - thank you for translations to metric system) and I hope to see next series "My 2:35 Marathon Goal".
What's life without lofty goals? I'll be tuning in to watch this weekend. Thank you for sharing this and all of your other running journeys with us. Rooting for you Floberg. You are going to crush this. Very excited for you.
Go for it. Kipchoge did the same at Berlin and slowed the 2nd half to still give a half decent race haha. You've got this and even if it's a positive split you know you gave it all.
Love your honesty and integrity, so refreshing. I mean I love all your videos - just so very watchable! Inspired me to start my own channel documenting training for my first sub-3 marathon… first video out today 🫣 Feels kinda wild your sub-3 was only a year ago - what you’ve achieved is incredible. Good luck for Sunday, go get it!
I love that you are just all out going for it Sunday. No better time than after a fantastic training block, on a flat course in basically perfect conditions. I will say don't worry about getting older and not being able to PR anymore. I've set more PRs in my early 40s than I did in my 30s. Endurance capacity only degrades every so slightly from 30-50 years old and with more experience you train and race smarter leading to possibly even more PR opportunities as you age. I'll be out there on Sunday too!! Can't wait!
Something to be aware of. At your pace, the crowds towards the finish line 24-26 will be lighter than you may think. Mainly due to the fact most runners are not at that part of the race yet. I remember being surprised at the difference between 2:58 crowds vs 2:45. Like yourself I get a lot of energy from the fans so just something to think about. Good luck
Go get ‘em. You were unknowingly a part of my training for my first 50k the same day as Chicago. I appreciate your honesty and hard work in both the workouts and the channel. Thank you!
Watched this on the bike trainer (I’m a triathlete who also runs marathons). Thanks for the breakdown, sounds solid and I’m definitely going to try some of that out. Hope you have a great race! 🏆🔥💪😊
I came across your videos for my half marathon training. Never had any feelings to do a marathon. You have inspired me to get my shit together and run one next year. Lincoln marathon 2024!
Good luck and smash it! You've put in a solid training block, it's great to see somone aiming high and being willing to go all out. Get that sub 2:40, you can do it! The series has been great to follow ✌️
What workout in this block gave you the greatest confidence? Was it just a good day where everything clicked or a difficult day that you were able to overcome? (You don’t need to answer this; I’m just giving you mental fuel for the last ten miles of this race!) Good luck!
I love it! The fitness changed therefore the goal changed! Given the fact that you ran a sub 1:16 un tapered it is absolutely possible! Can’t wait to see you crush it and look forward to meeting you at Boston! Thank you for all that you do!
Good luck out there! I don't think you need to apologise for setting aggresive goals for yourself, like you say there's only one way to find out if you can! Admire the confidence to get after it, I'm keen to see the result in my leadup to Melbourne marathon one week after Chicago. Wish I was over there doing that one 😀
Wishing you so much luck for Sunday - not that you need it, you’ve trained hard! I’m racing too. I need to be brave and believe I can run 3:30! I’m going to take a chance and go for it. 🤞🤞
Good luck Christina! For what’s it’s worth when I did my last marathon I was aiming for similar when I started training - which felt super scary. Ended up doing 3:21:58 - a 21-minute PB! Believe in your training and go for it 💪🏼
I think I’ve watched every single one of your videos at least 5 times at this point because they’re my go-to on the treadmill. So inspired by your content and story, can’t wait to see you crush it this weekend!
You are going to crush it dude! I agree about negative splitting. Regarding goals, that goal time lives in our head for months, we plan a bunch of work-outs around it, and train out body to feel that pace in our heart beats and lungs. Finding the goal time is just a stab but it becomes scripture by the time we line up at the race. That stab is still just a stab at the race and running is all mental. Set f-ing hard goals and actualize them. Prove to yourself your stronger than the you that came before. I'm getting pumped FOR YOU just writing this! GOOD LUCK!
as someone who has run Chicago many times, I think you nail the nuances and the feels of different portions of the course. Great job. You will run awesome Sunday.
My high school cross country coach always used to tell us on meet day, "You're strong, you're fast and you're well trained". Go rip it, Eric! I'll be there yelling at you when I see you!
Hey I have been following your journey to 2:42! I’m running my first marathon this weekend at St George UT! It’s been cool to see your progression and I love your attitude and ambition and honesty with your description of your race plan!! I believe you’ll hit your goals! Thanks for you videos
Thanks for sharing the details of your race strategy and all the videos for this series. Forget what people say that goes against what your plan is. You are trying to find out what you’re capable of and you can’t do that by following what others think you should do. I wish you the best at your race. You got this!
“This plan is to aggressive”.. NOT!! Don’t think about it anymore! Seems like you’re ready to attack it Sunday! Your body is physically ready, you’ve put in the work, and the plan is set! 👏 This Sunday in Chicago is gonna be my first marathon where I’m shooting for sub 3 hours. I wanted to say your channel has made me more prepared and overall stoked for Sunday!! Hopefully I get the chance to meet you. Until then stay healthy, if I don’t see you before the race just remember Nike’s slogan. “Just do it” that’s what what we gotta do for Sunday 🤙
You got this in the bag. 2:37 is possible. Run aggressive, just be smart, have fun. And just because you’re 32 doesn’t mean you can’t run fast in your early 40s. You can dip under 2:30 in years to come. You’re just now in that place where’s it makes sense. It only gets better with consistency
Hey it’s reasonable to reassess your goal considering the weather for the race day your training and health according how everything went in the last 6 months. I would definitely try to attempt under 2:40 if i am in your shoes 😊 all the best on your race! You can do it! 💪
Love your videos! I'm marathon training as well. I noticed in your run with Sean that you guys took a bathroom break. What is your stance on banking time for that possibility of a bathroom stop on race day? Thanks!
Hi! I really enjoy this channel, it's so inspiring. I wonder though - how about a video on recovery? Especially after an effort like this. I'm two weeks out from a half and still have a creaky IT band. I'm interested in what healthy recovery is to you. Good luck this weekend!!

I won't be there. I'm not in Chicago right now, actually I have never been to USA.
Only about 6 minute in right now, but I have to say everything you have talked about so far perfectly embodies my favorite quote: "The greater danger lies not in setting our aims to high and falling short, but in setting our aims too low and achieving our mark."
I'd always rather miss my "goal" knowing I gave it my all than achieve an arbitrary time I set at the beginning of my training but feel like I could have done better. Good luck this week, rooting for you!
Tbh biggest win is you linking with Ethan finally haha

Not only have you pushed me to be a better filmmaker, you're pushing me in running. Thanks so much Eric!

Go for it sir! This is your home town marathon! If not now, then when? Be be well, race FAST!
Go for it, man! I won't be able to run the race this year due to an injury, but I'll be there spectating and cheering for you!!
You have been putting in the dang work to change the potential goal down to 2:40. If you think you can, you have a whole community that will be rooting for you!
Good luck dude. Weather looks incredible. Props to you for (1) going for it and (2) SAYING you're gonna go for it. Takes guts 👏
Goooo Rip had the best time in Chicago last year one giant running party 🎉
Let's fucking go for it.

Sounds like a great plan and isn’t controversial given your recent half marathon and your training regimen. Go get ‘em!
Let's go! Excited to see how you get on. I commend your bravery. It's going to be epic if you pull off a 2h39m59s

Go freaking crush it man!! Can’t wait to see what you’re capable of!
