@@godlykillerssj1729 Whilest that is true, you probably shouldn't comment that under a reaction to the 2nd episode. It's like seeing someone watch the first Lord of the Rings movie, the fellowship just coming out of Moria and telling them that Gandalf will return as Gandalf the White in the next movie, after he defeated the Balrog. Much better to make it ominous, say that it's possible she might return, or maybe that he's gonna have to look out for whether that was just a red herring or whether she's actually gonna matter as the series goes on.

Yes, "Isekai" is more of a setting than a genre. Eminence in Shadow is pretty much an anti-trope, it kinda grabs all the tropes and clichés and puts them upsidedown.
In anime "Isekai" or "Another World" is a genre because most share a lot of features and tropes that make them easily separated from other shows. "Isekai" is also a setting and has existed for a while, mainly in the form of space and time travel, like "A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court" and "Star Trek". The thing that make this anime work is not just him making stuff up that ends up being real but also the fact that he doesn't realize this and thinks the girls working for him are just playing a game like he is and going along with his make believe stories. That's why he said Beta was good at acting, cause he thought she's just playing along. There had been many "isekai"/another world type of anime before. A lot of shows have had the premise of the characters getting transported and stuck in another world. The ones from back then have characters have the goal of returning home to their own worlds at the end. The new ones these past 10 or so years where the characters reincarnate are new and they can't go back home anymore since they're already dead there. Mushoku Tensei is one (if not the one) of the series that started this new type of isekai stories and it's source material's popularity has inspired a bunch of other isekai stories (many of which you're watching or would be watching). I hope you get to watch old isekai anime as well someday. There are lots of good ones.

Cid Kagenou (Cid Shadow-brain) is a young man with anime protagonist level superpowers and ability, but has a desire to remain a mysterious manipulator of events from behind the curtain. His desire is to live a life unnoticed as a background character is eclipsed only by his need to stick his shadowy manipulator fingers into any situation where he thinks he can look like a mysterious badass. This show is so good and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. It perfectly parodies the “Superpowerful badass in another world” trope with a dude who’s basically a total dork, running around doing total dork things, yet SOMEHOW actually ends up right about the cringy bullshit he thinks he’s making up. Pay attention to the names of other background characters. Some of them are absolute comedy gold.
"isekai" means "other world" in Japanese. Every story that involves the protagonist getting yeeted to another world is an isekai. (The chronicles of Narnia is an isekai.)
To understand Cid: Some kids dream of being the hero out of a story. Cid dreams of being the final boss, the one you sat beside your entire life without realizing who he was.
I must warn you, that this is quite a what could be called an "anti anime". It kind of plays on the tropes and pushes against them. And although it is entertaining on it's own, if you lack a lot of context of isekai and general anime trends, you'll probably get confused a lot. Especially at first.
[Spoiler] for Oshi No Ko if you want to go in completely blind Oshi No Ko falls under "Tensei", not "Isekai". Iseaki means "Another World" whereas Tensei means "Reincarnation/Rebirth". A lot of Isekais involve Tensei, but being an Isekai is not necessary for a Tensei story. Though they generally get lumped into Isekai for simplicity's sake, like "The Misfit of Demon King Academy". It's a Tensei that takes place in another world from our own, but isn't technically an "Isekai" because they MC is reborn in his same world.
What everyone is missing is that Cid "didn't make shit up" he came to a conclusion based on items in that room that were taken from the organization carriage, his intention was to bullshit his way off course but it a real conclusion from real evidence he's just that smart, also the reason he seems so oblivious is because he thinks he's susceptible to delusion and tend to ignore most things, the anime didn't explain his character very well that why people are confused and thinks he's some kind of god that bring things to reality, actually he himself says in term of magic power alone he's outclassed by most character he's this OP because he put in the effort and know how to squeeze and efficiently use every last bit of his magic
It’s funny how Cid assumes that all of the girls are just humoring him-playing along with his bs because they feel some gratitude. Yet, they’re all deadly serious and believe everything he says. He knows he’s bs’ing them all, so he assumes that they know it, too. Man rolls nat 20s on every bluff check to the point where the narrative itself becomes convinced he’s right.
@Luke He's an OP stud cuz he is able to save everyone by manipulating and tinkering with their magic overload to heal them from being blobs and revert back into their original forms. Fortunately and unfortunately for him and the entire world, every bullshit he made up was actually true. It may seem confusing but it is very common in novels around the world and in light novels, to have narrations from people who aren't the protagonist(s). You get a glimpse into the head or voice of even villains, how they think, feel, and it gives them more dept like the guy here with a daughter. There's usually a reason why they show you the picture of the daughter like that, so I hope you remember his daughter Milia by name at least!

My theory is that who or whatever isekaid him, has put this knowledge in the back of his mind. He thinks he is making stuff up, but in reality the information is there. This is why his "lies" keep turning out to be based on some kind of reality.
