since the ay-yo era, 127 has been moving into a style that REALLY suits them. like, i’m a longtime fan and their songs have always suited them (great distribution of parts, well-produced, etc.), but i feel like they’re tapped in to this kind of hip-hop sound paired with visuals and music videos that don’t take themselves too seriously. it’s awesome. everyone in 127 has a lot of personality and odd humor on-camera, so i really like that they kind of let that shine in their MVs (like jaehyun appearing randomly in the suit in ay-yo and the burning feet shots here). i feel like it works for them both visually, sonically, and vibe-wise. i hope they can continue with this, because it really feels like the culmination of all their previous concepts and ventures combined!

Anyone who didn’t know that this album was dropping wasn’t paying attention. That’s fine, people have lives. But, if you’re a 127 stan you have no excuse. WeVerse alone was driving me crazy with alerts, and while I’m not on Instagram or TikTok, their stuff usually ends up on RUclips anyway. They’ve been doing the music shows, a release party, the 1theK, the Relay Dance. All the stuff they usually do, plus they’re doing KCon this year (that these guys are attending!). Why would they, unless they were promoting something! I’m not a huge fan of music companies in general, but I keep asking what SM could have done specifically to promote NCT 127 better, and I get no response. This group, along with BTS and Seventeen, are probably the most consistent winners on music shows in Korea. Hanteo says that the new album sold over a million copies its first week. That’s terrible?! Believe me, there’s no such thing as a perfect promotion, and the haters of this subunit are legion. SM keeps getting accused of both “overworking” and “underpromoting” these guys. (Look up the word “dichotomy” folks.) Someone needs to tell me what else they should be doing, otherwise I’m going to start thinking that people are FOS.
