I've built houses for 30 years and 20 years in festival production and this is the first time I've seen that sidewinder forklift carriage on an American machine and I want one!!!!
9:02 instead of hours of frustratingly learning to hammer left handed, you could take 2 seconds to duck under the beam and hammer from the other side ;)
SDS, SDWS, and SD screws are made of an alloy that increases their ductility, allowing them to be used in more instances. SD screws were literally developed to be a nail replacement, and that includes in shear as well, where the back and forth ductility of nails is really key
Because every AwesomeFramer needs more steps in a day, you could always walk around to the far side of the beam and hammer the hanger in from the 'easy side'.
Believe it or not Skil of all companies actually makes one! I've seen a few guys using them in shop settings in place of loud air hammers so they must be decent hitters👍🏻🛠️👌🏻
I don’t think I caught it, you may have said it, maybe consider mentioning how installing a GLB right is essential. I had one contractor call me (for a 24F-V4), that they installed it upside down and asked me if it’s ok where I responded (you need to call the manufacturer and determine that since they manufactured it and can give you a better answer; I called for them instead to be easier and unfortunately, they had to remove and re-install it. That contractor asked us to always specify 24F-V8 now so they don’t mess up because it delayed their schedule heavily and just a lot of “heat”). Just a thought, love the videos!
The Simpson engineers made the nail holes too close to the bend to make a palm nailer ineffective. Besides, Tim likes to show off his polished Martinez M1 titanium hammer as much as possible. 🤣
My Grandfather, used to yell at me for using my shoulder, to drive nails, he’d sneak up and hold a board behind your elbow if he caught you swinging with your shoulder 😂
Can you estimates the added material cost for elinating that column? I know the labor may be just as much or more - unless they already were using a high lift like you do. Thanks
I’ve been looking to get a new RV. I felt that American coaches pretty good value for the dollar compared to the rest that are in this category but the middle ceiling just Makes the coach look so cheap. I just can’t bring myself to buy one because of that ceiling in the middle.
The only way to prove the “simson” strong tie math, would be to use the lull to rip the beam out of the hanger. That would be very interesting to see, (and it would not cost much) to prove./ replace. I would place bets that the 6 SKF screws in the former hanger would hold strong, as the 16 6 penny nails would rip out of the degregated beam. Only physically doing it would prove it, no matter what the engineer says. And I don’t mean to throw the engineer under the bus.
After taking time mulling this over today, not a fan of this many nails going into the laminated beam. Had a PSL 3 1/2 x 14 beam sag after the 10 nail over 24 feet in a hanger. I much prefer the former bracket with just 4 screws on each side. You put that much steel 16 penny into the beam, they act like wood splitter wedges prying the beam apart. Would much prefer 6 pre-drilled holes into the beam, then use SDK fastners 4 inch to finish the day, and not steal any spec from the beam integrity. What I’m seeing. But that would also mean “Simson” doubling the size of the hole on the hanger to accommodate a fastener they yet do not make.
We pull the beam out of the “simson” hanger to prove a point, the hanger is rated, “but” Simson fastners are not rated - vs SKF fastners. The holes in the hanger are too small.

Yes, take a look at the load tables. They will show when we can use the Strong Drive Connector screws. Usually they won't even fit through the same size hole as the 16d
@@AwesomeFramers I remember looking at the tables for *certain* connectors a few years ago when I built my deck, but nothing as big as that one. I suck at swinging a hammer, and decided to avoid nails wherever possible in the construction, so everything was around using the Simpson connectors and SDS screws.

Your witty one liners in this video are fantastic LMAO. STar Trek reference got me so good
As a fellow beam wrench enjoyer I salute you. I make mine out of a 2x4 stud and offcut, and a scrap piece of 2x10/LVL/Rimboard.

In talking to a Strong-Tie rep, its the heat treament that allows their ductility. I would imagine its some comobination of both

Nice on getting rid of that column.
That beam weighes 16129 penny weights
In the old days ?? I nailed a 2x4 on the side of the Beam , that was my lever

Not when the magnet that holds the nail in the palm nailer falls out 😭😭😭😭😭
Okay Archimedes. Cool it with the lever love. Almost indecent here. 🤣
I wish I understood the physics behind the beam wrench...that thing is amazing!
Look up Archimedes and leverage. It's been around since Ancient Egypt.
Can move around to the other side of the beam to get more space with the right handed hammer

Shouldn’t you “choke” the beam with the lifting slings?

Hmm, that's a good question. Ultimately is probably a little more $$ for this due to the concrete work at the foundation.
11:30 Nice Mark you have there. I don't need a Mark. I have a dink.
Name the movie!
How about using a palm nailer on the bracket? Would that work?
yep
Or just step under the beam to the opposite side and nail the left side of the support. 9:00

Is there a link for the blue/floral shirts?

What weight hammer is that?
martineztools.com/
You could of walked around to the other side of the beam and you would be hammering with your right hand
but then I'd have to move the cameras 😁
Nails were on an angle to your right, probably most of the reason the left side was more difficult
When holding the chain up until the weight comes on it, hold the clasp, a pinch from the links in the chain is nasty
