He is my father's direct taekwondo teacher, since 1973, Master Fernando Tovar, my father learnt Karate do Shito Ryu and Shotokan from Sensei Bernard William Hoffner Long, Manuel Mondragón Y Kalb, Juan Jorge Farias and Japanese Senseis like: Nobuyoshi Murata, Kenei Mabuni, Yukishi Tabata and Tato Tsurume, and my father defeated world full contact champion Otis Hopper in 1976 in Mexico City in the sports palace amongst more than 10,000 spectators and Mexico defeated the Washington superstars, also Isaías Dueñas maintained His undefeated Full Contact record, also a student of Moon's.
Great memories of TKD, the golden era in Mexico. Sensei Tovar was my coach in a combat with a puertorican national champion, my back was injured when fell down and hit a wall corner. There is one great champion missing here, great Sensei Ramiro Guzmán. My respect and greetings to profesor Tovar.
Lots of karate chops or knife and Strikes Back in the Day they kind of abandoned that move later on but that's what we all associated karate with back in the day.
