    A few things that will really, really help you with choosing what cards to submit:
    -Use a jeweler's loupe (5x magnification or better) to look over the front and back surface. I can guarantee most of the cards where you can't figure out how they got a 7, 8 or 9 are because of some minor ding or scratch not noticeable by the naked eye
    -Look at the front and back of the card under a white light - any dings, scratches, creases or faint print lines not caught with the jeweler's loupe will be noticeable this way
    -Try to measure centering by at least 1/16th of an inch increments, BOTH the top/bottom and left/right sides - you need at the worst 60/40 centering on the front, but if there are any minor dings on the card or questionable corners, PSA will likely require 55/45 centering to give the card a 10
    -Check the corners, front AND BACK. If you notice any slight crease or bend, you're not getting a 10 - very likely an 8 at best
    In addition, there are ways to clean up your cards before submitting that may help with scratches / dings / corner issues that don't involve any type of alteration that would disqualify the card from grading. Searching youtube for tips on this would be beneficial
    **Editing for one last helpful piece of advice: unless you pull a rare / expensive card that you are trying to get graded and on the market ASAP for that sweet, sweet seller's premium, always try to compare your card against others of the same type that have received 10s. You can try to find pictures of other 10s on eBay or PSA itself. You may notice the printing / stamping is slightly off on your card compared to a 10. The best example of this is 2020 prizm cards - at the bottom of the card there is an impression surrounding the nameplate. A lot of these impressions are off center on 2020 prizm cards and will grade lower because of it. Sometimes the grader will miss this, but more often than not they will catch it. The same impression is around the "RC" chevron at the top of the card - if this is off too, it likely won't grade a 10.**

      which jeweler's loupe recommend for cards? Handheld?

    • @JeremyGraczyk
      @JeremyGraczyk Год назад +4

      @@ov_.17 Doesn't really matter, just your personal preference and what you think you'd be most comfortable using. I use a handheld with a light, but some people like using the overhead one or one that clamps onto your table. The magnification and good lighting is really what matters - I've heard PSA uses a 10x loupe, but that's overkill in my opinion. A 5x loupe will reveal everything you need to see, or at least it has in my experience.

      Agreed. I just reviewed 100 cards and I know what I’m looking for. I only felt comfortable sending 37 after all the reviewing. All this modern stuff has tons of scratches, dings and corner bumps. If you don’t know what you are looking for then you think you have clean cards but they are 8-9 range at best. Also psa can be all over the place so it’s a toss up when you grade either way. Bowman chrome is terrible for surface issues, paper cards always have soft corners. Prizm has tons of scratches on the back. Good luck grading

      @OleLockAndKey Год назад +9

      @@nsv_sportscards9158 Same. I started with a 250+ card submission, I'm under 100 cards at this point.
      I only send in cards that have a chance at a PSA 10 - everything PSA 9 and under nowadays sells for around raw money anyway, so I don't see the point (for profit purposes).
      I'm strictly looking for 10's to get that 3x (ish) bump in price.
      I'm typically between 70 and 80 % PSA 10 rate using the methods and suggestions that you and the OP mentioned.
      You have to put in the work on the front end, if you don't want to waste money and be stuck holding a bunch of $20 PSA 6's.
      Best of luck y'all!

    • @JeremyGraczyk
      @JeremyGraczyk Год назад +4

      @@OleLockAndKey Yes I agree with you and NSV, if you are looking to get 10s in order to try to turn a profit, you really have to be willing to put in the time and effort to thoroughly look them over. Even then don't expect everything you've carefully looked over to get a 10 (or even a 9) - everyone makes mistakes and misses stuff. And sometimes you just get a very harsh grader. But the more you learn and work at it, the better you will get at it 👍👍

    I think that any card graded below 9 should require an explanation from PSA. They should have to tell you exactly what caused the low grade. I honestly believe they do it just so you’ll break them open and try again. That way they make even more money.

I use SGC now bc I have my cards back in a week and the values are really close now and continue to narrow the gap. SGC does a great job of selecting a fair grade and if you look at the cards good usually what there graded is spot on. But with the fast grade times and quality of service I can deal with the small value difference. By the time you get a sub like this from PSA messing up grades the value doesnt come out ahead of SGC anyways. Only way ill use PSA again is on massive cards that have a huge price gap between them.

In the end I wound up paying some up-charges because 4 of the 24 cards gemmed. That said I went 50/50, I got 12 10’s and 12 9’s using them. Yeah I’ve been on a Pokémon card binge lately and if you look at them under a jeweler’s loupe (mine is a 16X I believe) there are def small indentations/craters throughout many of the cards. The quality control seems to an issue for many of the sword and shield cards. I’m not 100% how the sports cards are manufactured but I know the Pokémon cards are essentially layers of paper (paper, foils, holographic depending on what cards) that they lay over each other and press together. I feel like the little divot’s are created due to this process (they’re not getting pressed together smooth enough). As far them affecting the grading score I’m not sure if the graders look for them or not but if so then I can def see that affecting the final grade. I never really thought about whether they affect scores or not I always just assumed that all the cards have microscopic divots like that in them (maybe not I guess I’ll have to look harder 🤷‍♂️)

    Sorry to got some low numbers there. But i can see some of those cards are of center of have surface blemishes such as scratches and dents. Maybe you need to get a grading tool to check for centering. And if there are scratches on the surface you can use a wax to remove them. If there are any scratches on the surface, you'll get a 9 for sure. Paper cards are hard to get a 10 on though. You gotta have razor sharp corners with no white at all. I count the dots or design whether it be a checkerboard or Disco circles, you gotta check side to side and make sure they're the same. If there are 3.5 dots from the edge of the card on one side, go to the other side and make sure there are 3.5 dots from that edge as well. My first submission ever of 13 cards got nothing less than a 9. Sweet cards!!!

    Same thing happened to me 4 months ago I sent in a large order I split it into two separate orders, almost all 10's some 9's on the first order, the second order came back almost all 8's no consistency with PSA. SGC is the most consistent and fair with grading. But everyone wants a psa slab and turns a blind eye to their inconsistent grading. PSA knows people will crack open cards and resubmit and not even think twice it's a total Cash cow for PSA. They also like to reserve majority of their 10's for their good customers.

    This ladies and gents is why you THOROUGHLY inspect your cards in all different lighting, in all different angles and also with a magnifying glass with a led light attached. Everything isnt only about centering or blatant defects. Do your own due diligence. Its has nothing to do with how much you spend. I spend the same amount he has numerous times and have a 70-80% psa 10 comeback because I take my time inspecting.
