    guys you are so lucky to be able to go out to do this stuff like catching the little critters. I been watching this video and thinking back on my life. Im 68 years old and growing up I didnt have any idea of all the things a person could do. we were pretty poor but had a lot of love. I had six brothers. I was the only girl and the middle child. dont take life for granted or it will pass you by. if you cook this stuff. hey eat one for me...lol..its fun watching you catch these. they got some mean pinches...

    I was stationed in North Bend many years ago and took my kids to a pier to catch crab. They enjoyed it so much except they would never handle the bait which were fish heads from fish I used to catch in the Rogue River. Man, that male you handled was massive! The purple one was beautiful. We caught the smaller ones and had to measure them. There seemed to be a game warden standing at the end of the pier every time we went. Great video, guys! Good catch, too!

    i DONT usually comment, but im on the east coast (georgia) and we have the blue crabs like maryland- the way you are handling these crabs is astounding. if we pull a crab trap here you have to be really careful because they are agitated and agressive -its almost hard to get them in the bucket these crabs on the other hand you are touching them all over with no threat

  • @itsfishingnotcatching
    @itsfishingnotcatching 8 лет назад

    PK, what do you do with that much crab? of course, the obvious thing is to cook and eat it fresh, but what do you find yourself doing when you're tired of eating crab, or have run out of friends/relatives to give them to? I can only hope to have that kind of problem on my hands, but it would be interesting to know what others do with fresh crab you can't eat (for now). Steam, then freeze? Or, cook and keep the meat fridgerated? I heard blue crab can stay alive in the fridge for 3 days if kept cool with saltwater. A day of rest in between chowing down fresh crab would be something. Thanks for another inspiring video!

    I am so hungry now. I was in OR coast a few years ago and some of the locals told me that stopped eating or catching crabs as they believed crabs radiation level was to high. The cause they said was from the fukushima power plant catastrophe. I asked other locals and they said the others were full of crap but it took away my appetite. I wonder where I could trust to find the truth about ocean life and radiation. I do not want an opinion but the truth. One shop tried to sell me one crab for over $30 bucks but I declined.

    I've been crabbing for many many years and if you put the bait on the bottom the crabs won't be on top, they will be more IN the trap! Take the advice from an old crabber!

    • @52Rambler
      @52Rambler 4 года назад +1

      And I have commercially fished Dungeness for many many years in B.C Canada and can tell you it makes NO difference if bait is top or bottom of a trap.. Have seen riders either way on traps and just as many crab in either as well. LoL, actually it's better for bait to be closer to the top of a trap, less chance of sand fleas, hermit crab, sea snail/slugs ect getting to the bait. An old crabber eh,, what is that, a old crabber fishing in the harbour from a punt with a trap or two is why you know so much.

      They go in as little crabs and eat all the chicken. Twenty minutes later, voila!

      Yeah Ray Ray is correct. If you look closely at this guys go pro footage of the crabs underwater you can actually see a couple of them almost double in size over the time they are in the trap. Just depends on type of bait and water temp. And of course which crabs eat the most bait...

    Thank you for wearing your life jacket. Things happen really fast on the water for some reason. I applaud you for these awesome videos.

    You make the case very well for lower limits, unless i heard wrong 3 in the boat and you were after 36 crabs ?? 12 crab limit seems high

    This might be a dumb question, but do you have to be careful about them pinching your fingers when you pick them up?

    PK add some egg sinkers to the swing door. When the crabs crawl in the door shuts and. They can't open it very easy. At the bottom of the doors are fingers or prongs put the weights on those.

    Next time use pork chitterlings in the bucket you can freeze them and saw them out when needed guarantee the crabs will go wild over the smell and the taste remember Port style chitterlings
