This brought me peace and comfort. This culture is a treasure, should be respected and preserved. It’s a lesson in balance and living. I’ve been to Kyoto twice, I hope to bring my family one day, just so they can experience this for a bit. This is good for the soul.

The sense of enclosure and intimacy created by these narrow backstreets, coupled with the possibility of discovering something interesting tucked down any random alley was one of my favorite things during my time in Japan. I was constantly stumbling on little gardens, shrines, restaurant stalls, shops, or paths that were interesting in and of themselves. Japan is a flaneur's paradise.

No doubt Whole Japan is so wonderful.. Definitely, Kyoyo is very special. Total credit should go to the dedication of the Japanese people and to their governing bodies. I, too, had some luck to walk al8ng on the historically important avenue and pathways. Both late nights as well as the early mornings.
My favorite 2 places are Philosopher's Walk and the shrine in Sagamihara with all the friendly cats. Japan is my favorite place to visit on youtube now I'm too old to fly. Thank you!

The experience is enhanced with the continuous decorative brick pattern and the banked stone wall to the left. Places like this are rare things in the U.S. Sadly, in this country there would be: 1) graffiti, 2) unnecessary commercial advertising, 3) litter. (1:29:19)

京都も銀閣寺周辺に限らず、普通の民家の手入れがなかなか思うようにはいかないらしい様子がそこここに伺えます。その周辺部に出ると、それはもっと進んでいて、日本はこうして滅びていくのかと、少し寂しい思いです。
